Cheryl and Liam Payne have said they are "going our separate ways" in nearly-identical posts to their 40 million Twitter followers.
The former Girls Aloud star, 35, and One Direction member, 24, have decided to split after a two-year relationship - and just over a year since their one-year-old son called Bear was born.
They told their followers that separating had been "a tough decision for us to make".
"We still have so much love for each other as a family," they said.
We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It's been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together. — Cheryl (@CherylOfficial) 1 July 2018
"Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together."
Cheryl was previously married to footballer Ashley Cole for four years before their divorce in 2010.
Four years later she married Jean-Bernard Versini in a secret beach wedding, but by the following year they had split.
She and Payne had been in a relationship since December 2015.

They met on The X Factor in 2008, when she was a judge and he auditioned as a solo contestant, then 14 years old.
In February, the pair put on a public display of unity at the Brit Awards amid speculation over their relationship.
Cheryl later hit back at reports that their appearance had been a "stunt", saying the suggestion was "just ludicrous and a bit weird".

In March, Cheryl responded to images of her partner and another woman, saying she was an "innocent dancer colleague of Liam's who has a fiance".
She described speculation over the images as a "desperate attempt to try to cause problems between Liam and I".
The decision to split up was made two weeks ago, according to The Sun, and Payne has moved out of the Surrey mansion they shared.

Liam Payne and girlfriend Cheryl Cole have parted ways, the former One Direction singer (and now solo artist) said Sunday, July 1.
"Cheryl and I are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It's been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together," Payne wrote on Twitter. Cole, also a singer -- who goes by Cheryl now and was previously in Girls Aloud -- posted the same statement on her own account.
The couple began dating in 2016 and are parents to one-year-old Bear, whom they welcomed in March 2017.
In March of this year, Cole addressed rumors that Payne was involved with one of his backup dancers. "I usually don’t bother myself to respond to stupid articles," Cole tweeted, referring to cheating gossip. "But in my silence, they hold the pen. This is a stupid article, clutching at very small straws." Minutes later, she added they were heading off on vacation "and the only thing we’re making are memories."
Payne recently announced the release date of his debut solo album, which will out on Sept. 14.

Cheryl Cole has ended her two and a half year relationship to Liam Payne, more than four months after their last public appearance on the red carpet at the BRIT Awards in February.
And while the exes have said their priority moving forward will be their 15-month-old son Bear, many will be wondering about the cause of their shock break-up.
In a tweeted statement, Liam wrote: "Cheryl and I are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It's been a tough decision for us to make.
"We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together."
But Liam isn't the first of Cheryl's boyfriends to have called time on their relationship just a couple of years in.
Here's who else Cheryl has dated.
Jacob Thompson (2002)
Cheryl met Jacob on the set of Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, when she was just 19 and he 21.
But she dumped him when she was chosen for the Girls Aloud lineup and he told the Mirror years later that she coldly dismissed him at a party to celebrate the launch of the band.
"It was heartbreaking but it was clear I wasn't in her plans for the future," Jacob revealed.
"Our relationship was over and we never spoke again. Weeks afterwards, friends in the music industry told me Cheryl's PR people had told her to 'dump the boyfriend'.
"It doesn't surprise me. They obviously didn't want the band to have any distractions. It doesn't make it any less hurtful though."
He claimed that Cheryl would get jealous of the hundreds of teenage girls who would mob him in public, and that she wanted to keep their relationship quiet in case Popstars producers kicked them both off the show.
Ashley Cole (2004 - 2010)
By the time Girls Aloud had found fame and success, Cheryl was ready to settle down with first husband Ashley.
Their future looked set as the new Posh and Becks, with Ashley raking in £90,000 a week at Chelsea and the couple earning significant amounts with endorsement deals and glossy magazine shoots.
Ashley proposed during a camel ride in Dubai and they marry in a £1million ceremony at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire.
A year later, Cheryl seals the deal by getting 'Mrs C' tattooed on the back of her neck, but in January 2008 the first of a string of women steps forward to allege she had a one-night stand with Ashley.
Cheryl forgives him, but it's thrown back in her face in February 2010 when a topless model revealed a naked picture of Ashley sent to her phone - which he says was left on the phone when he gave it to a friend.
Days later, another woman claims she had sex with Ashley in a hotel room the previous July. Cheryl's spokesman announces their split two days after that and she flees to LA to seek comfort from a dancer who appeared in her music video for Parachute...
Derek Hough (2010 - 2011)
Derek's the name, rebounding is the game. Professional dancer Derek was spotted on a string of dates with Cheryl, but the long distance soon put paid to their brief encounter.
Cheryl, who battled malaria in 2010 after contracting it on a break to Tanzania with Derek, later credited him with saving her life.
"He's an amazing, amazing person... I can never repay him for that," she said.
Derek himself held no bad feelings over the end of their relationship, revealing in 2013: "We dated for a while. Absolutely we are still friends, we are still very close.
"I haven't met her new boyfriend but I have heard he's a great guy. I'm not sure she has a thing for dancers but let's say she definitely goes for creative types."
Tre Holloway (2012 - 2013)

After Cheryl had recovered from her illness, she started seeing professional dancer Tre.
Their relationship lasted 14 months - but Tre hinted he called time because he was scared of losing himself.
In a series of tweets, he revealed: "Tell the negativity committee that meets inside your head to sit down and shut up!#imalive.
"Sometimes against our will life gives us 2 options:losing yourself or losing someone else. Regardless of the situation, don't lose yourself."
He praised Cheryl as "amazing" and thanked her fans for supporting him.
Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini (2014 - 2016)
X Factor judge Cheryl shocked the world in July 2014 by revealing she'd secretly married restaurateur Jean-Bernard on a beach in the Caribbean, with just her mum Joan and his best man as witnesses.
But her marriage to her second husband was over in just 14 months amid claims JB was jealous and controlling, even reportedly demanding she quit her lucrative TV job and allegedly telling her fellow judge Nick Grimshaw to "get his hands off her backside".
Liam Payne (2015 - 2018)

Fans swooned as Cheryl and Liam got together in late 2015, when she was judging The X Factor.
They first hinted they were together when One Direction played the ITV show in December of that year - and Cheryl and Liam were spotted off-camera embracing during an ad break.
Just a month later, Liam signalled things were already getting serious when he debuted a rose tattoo on his hand - one inked in tribute to Cheryl's enormous bum tatt.
They made their public debut in Cannes in May - and months later, rumours that Cheryl was pregnant with the couple's first child flew.

She didn't confirm her pregnancy until November 2016 when they went to a carol concert in London and Chery's bump was on display.
Cheryl gave birth to baby Bear in March 2017 and shares the first - and only - picture of him being cuddled by Liam. She then stayed off-grid for the next few months getting used to motherhood.
By February 2018, cracks are starting to appear as Liam jets around the world touring and Cheryl stays home with the baby. They make a last public appearance at the BRIT Awards, but in March Liam admitted in an interview that they were having "struggles".
They ended their relationship in mid-June and went public with the split two weeks later.
