Keduanya telah berpacaran selama dua tahun.Pengumuman ini muncul setelah beberapa bulan Liam dan Cheryl dirumorkan akan putus. Keduanya belum menikah, namun telah dianugerahi seorang putra bernama Bear, pada Maret 2017.Liam mengumumkan kabar tersebut sendiri melalui akun Twitter miliknya, sehari setelah Cheryl berulangtahun yang ke-35."Cheryl dan saya dengan sedih mengumumkan bahwa kami jalan masing-masing. Ini adalah bagian terpenting dalam hidup saya," jawabnya.Sepekan setelah acara itu, sejumlah media melaporkan bahwa hubungan pasangan ini tengah merenggang lantaran Cheryl menolak permintaan Liam untuk menikah. The Sun bahkan melaporkan bahwa seorang pengacara telah dipanggil untuk membantu Liam mendapatkan harta gana-gini sebesar 54 juta poundsterling atau lebih dari Rp1 triliun menjelang 'perceraian' ini."Liam amat sayang dengan anak laki-lakinya dan ingin bisa menyelesaikan masalah dengan Cheryl, jadi pikiran untuk menikah adalah langkah yang positif," ujar seorang sumber kepada The Sun.Orang terdekat Cheryl mengungkap kepada media itu bahwa sang biduan tak berpikiran sama dengan Liam. Singers Cheryl and Liam Payne have announced they are splitting up after more than two years together.
The former Girls Aloud star, 35, and One Direction member, 24, split up two weeks ago, according to the Sun.
The couple have a son, Bear, who was born in March last year.
They confirmed the split on social media, saying they were "sad" and it had been a "tough decision to make", adding: "We still have so much love for each other as a family".
Cheryl tweeted: "Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together."

Payne posted an almost identical message to his 33m followers on Twitter.

Newcastle-born Cheryl started her career on ITV's Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 as one of the members of Girls Aloud. She then went on to launch a solo career and became a judge on The X Factor in 2008.
She met Payne when he auditioned for the reality show that year, aged 14.
"I think you've got charisma," she told him, after he performed the jazz standard Fly Me To The Moon. "I think you're really cute".

Payne failed to make it past the judge's houses stage but, following a second audition in 2010, was drafted into One Direction, who became a global chart phenomenon.
Cheryl's relationship with the star began after her divorce from French restaurateur Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini in 2016. She was previously married to the former England footballer Ashley Cole.
Following the end of her second marriage, the star, who was born Cheryl Tweedy, said she wanted to be known just by her first name.
Payne, originally from Wolverhampton, has gone on to forge a successful solo career after One Direction decided to take a break in 2015. His single Strip That Down, which was written by Ed Sheeran, was streamed globally more than a billion times last year.
In March, Payne admitted he and Cheryl had relationship "struggles", amid tabloid press reports about their life together.

The couple — who first went public with their romance in 2015 — announced their split on Twitter Sunday.
“Cheryl and I are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways,” wrote Payne, 24. “It’s been a tough decision for us to make.”
Mentioning their son Bear, who celebrated his first birthday on March 22, Payne continued, “We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.”

Payne and Cheryl’s romance owes its origins to the X Factor U.K. The pair first met while Cheryl was a judge on the show, and Payne a contestant, in 2008. The “Strip That Down” singer was paired with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik on the reality competition series to create former boy band One Direction.
News that Payne and the former Girls Aloud member were expecting their first child was confirmed by PEOPLE in November 2016, with Cheryl officially announcing her pregnancy in February 2017.
The same month that Bear arrived, Payne opened up about his lady love for the first time.
“She is a wonderful, wonderful person and it’s amazing to have someone who can relate to so much of things — someone who’s taken greater steps than me,” Payne told U.K.’s Rollacoaster magazine of Cheryl.
He added, “She’s been my dream girl since I was younger. She’s so ace.”

In an interview with The Sun in May 2017, Payne seemed to insinuate that the couple had no plans to wed, telling the outlet, “I see marriage as more of a religious thing and I’m not really a religious person.”
He further told The Sun, “We have a baby together — you know, our love for each other can’t be more serious, so it is what it is I guess.”

As breakup speculation amped up earlier this year, it appeared the duo still supported each other. After Cheryl posted a photo of herself posing with a sign for the Prince’s Trust “Youth Can Do It” campaign on Feb. 20, Payne commented, “Very proud of you! How you find the time to do this [I’ll] never know.”
He continued, “Over many years you’ve put all this together and put your heart into such a great cause! I hope one day I can do the same.”
In March, Payne shut down rumors that the relationship was on the rocks, but admitted to ES Magazine that the couple faced “struggles.”
“The funniest thing was a week before we were getting married. The next week we’re splitting up,” he said of reports that the pair were putting on a “loved up display” at the 2018 BRIT Awards last month.
“And the thing for me is, I just like to think we’re somewhere in the middle. You know, we have our struggles — like of course I’m not gonna sit here and say that everything’s absolutely fine and dandy, because of course you go through different things, and that’s what a relationship is,” he continued. “But we go through them together as a family and that’s the most important thing for me.”
Payne said he wasn’t threatened by a rough patch in his relationship, arguing, “tell me a relationship in the world that doesn’t go through a spot like that?”
Cheryl previously addressed gossip that they put on an act for the cameras during their recent appearance together on Twitter.
“Your ‘stunt’ theories are just ludicrous and a bit weird,” she said in February.

Cheryl was previously married to Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini for 19 months. Payne split up with longtime girlfriend Sophia Smith in October 2015.

The former One Direction member and Cheryl, a former member of singing group Girls Aloud, made the announcement on their social media pages on Sunday.
"Cheryl and I are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways," Payne, 24, wrote in a statement posted to his official Twitter account. "It's been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family."
