Tesco has launched an online clearance amid the closure of Tesco Direct.
The website , which sells electrical appliances, furniture, toys and homeware, has introduced hefty discounts on a number of items.
Discounts include 50% off suitcases , half price kids bikes , 50% off indoor furniture and toys for under £10 .
There's also 50% off garden items and 20% off selected TVs and soundbars .
Tesco Direct will close on Monday, July 9.
The decision follows a detailed review into the business, which Tesco said faced “a number of significant challenges” including high fulfilment and online marketing costs.
Tesco said it “concluded that, despite its best efforts, there is no route to profitability for this small, loss-making part of the business”.
The move puts approximately 500 staff at risk of redundancy.
5 things you should know about Tesco Direct closing down
• You cannot get next day delivery or next day click and collect on any items ordered.
• You can still get a 30 day refund on your items but you'll need a receipt.
• Most items will only be available online while stocks last.
• Pre-ordered goods will be honoured if they are due to be released before July 9, if they are not the order will be canceled and you'll get a refund.
• If you have a Tesco Direct gift card or voucher you will be able to use it after the website closes in Tesco stores or on Tesco.com.
It's always distressing to hear of yet another retail establishment shuttering, but I must admit, this week’s news that Tesco has called time on Tesco Direct has come as a shock. Tesco Direct – the non-food arm of the supermarket – sells goods such as homeware, electricals, toys and garden furniture. The site was launched 20 years ago and, in recent years, bosses have unsuccessfully tried to turn it into a direct rival to Amazon.
It’s very sad, not least because its demise means a loss of up to 500 jobs but also because the site has been a secret go-to of mine for great bedlinen, cheap lighting, inexpensive furniture and discount cookware over the years. The site not only sold its own line, Fox & Ivy, but also featured ranges from smaller boutique sites, as well as larger household brands. If anything, though, the offering was big – too big – but if you had time on your hands to go hunting, there were some bargains to be had.
And there are real bargains to be had now, too. The site closes down on 9 July and, before then, there is a clearance sale in force, with prices slashed and daily discounts. Here is a round-up of some of the best things you can buy on the site today.
Lenvik double bed frame, £74.50
Mortimer Chesterfield armchair , £299.50
Wallace pin-leg coffee table, £27.50
Miami coffee table, £24.50
Kanaubu chair, £24.50
Connie shelves, £24.50
Wallace pin-leg side table, £17.50
Wire metallic table, £24.50

Shoppers are set to snap up some half-price bargains following the surprise news that Tesco Direct is closing down its non-food section.
Offers - with 50% savings - are now available on the likes of children’s bikes and garden items since the superstore’s surprise announcement.
It revealed last week that it sees no way to make Tesco Direct profitable and is to close its website, with the loss of a potential 500 jobs, as it focuses on its non-food business.
On that date the site, which has been running as a one-stop-shop since 2006, will close to orders and a huge closing down sale, with major discounts, comes on the back of the decision as Tesco tries to rid itself of surplus stock to off-load.
The site is currently advertising lots of price cuts but deal-sharing community site HotUKDeals has rounded up some of its best discounts.
The following offers are available only online but buyers can choose to “click and collect” and pick up their purchases from their local branch.
Tesco’s site was initially intended as a rival to Argos and Amazon, selling everything from sofas to computer games under one roof.
But company executive Charles Wilson said of the closure: “This decision has been a very difficult one to make, but it is an essential step towards establishing a more sustainable non-food offer and growing our business for the future.”
Here is a top five selection of its big-value deals.
