There's no one in the world who doubts that Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War is going to slay at the box office; after all, this culmination of ten years of Marvel Cinematic Universe films may be the biggest movie milestone of our generation. No, the question isn't if Avengers 3 is going to make a lot of money, it's how much money will Marvel rake in?
After the unbelievable runaway success of Black Panther already this year, it seems that even Marvel Studios can still be surprised by just how well its films do. So, whatever estimates or assumptions may have once existed for Infinity War's earnings, those lines may have had to be entirely redrawn for a post-Black Panther reality.
Here's how much Avengers: Infinity War is projected to make on opening weekend - as reported by Box Office Pro:
Domestic Opening Weekend: $200 million – $235 million
Domestic Total Gross: $490 million – $590 million
While the report won't go into worldwide projections yet, there is mention of early estimates putting Avengers: Infinity War in the ring for a possible upset of the opening weekend record currently held by The Fate of the Furious ($443.2M overseas; $541.9M worldwide). Again, that's not all that surprising considering that FotF was a pivotal installment in one of the world's top movie franchises (the first since Paul Walker's death), while Infinity War is a bonafide cinematic milestone and event, which pulls viewer interest from across 10 years of previous films.
The real question in all this is will Disney be able to outdo Disney. Right now, the record for domestic opening weekend is still held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248M), followed immediately by Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($220M). It's mentioned that Jurassic World's $208.8M domestic opening may be an easier hurdle to get over.
Avengers: Infinity War will bring together the last ten years of MCU storylines, as the Mad Titan Thanos tries to gather the six Infinity Stones spread across the universe, to form the godly Infinity Gauntlet, with which he can remake the universe. We've recently gotten spoiler hints about major deaths in the film, and Marvel just yesterday announced that Infinity War will be released a week earlier, so that Marvel can debut the film simultaneously for fans all over the globe.
Black Panther is now in theaters. It will be followed by Avengers: Infinity War on April 27th, Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6th, Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, the fourth Avengers movie on May 3, 2019, the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 5, 2019, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2020.
Yesterday, Marvel Studios suddenly revealed that the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War would have an earlier release date in North America than originally intended. Both of the previous Avengers movies had early May releases, but Infinity War will buck that trend by releasing on April 27, around the world.
In North America, filmgoers have always had to avoid spoilers for a full week, since the films tend to release earlier in the UK. However, the release date switch wasn’t just well received by fans for the same day release; many pointed out how it was a sign of Marvel Studios’ current power. The studio has always had a tendency to dominate whatever month they stake their claim in, but has never released a film earlier than intended. In fact, to the chagrin of many, Marvel has delayed films in the past: Thor Ragnarok, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel have all been pushed back, so this is a more than welcome change.

But best of all, the announcement was presented in the silliest and best of ways. There was no grandiose trailer or new poster that revealed the changed date. It just came from a Twitter conversation involving Robert Downey Jr. and the Marvel Studios account.
Really.
Marvel’s next film is destined to be a more serious story than most of its previous releases, and the marketing has reflected that. The somber version of the Avengers theme playing over various actors reciting Nick Fury’s short, but iconic speech about the titular heroes from the first film made it clear — this is a big movie with bigger stakes. Last month’s Super Bowl ad gave us the thundering statement of “An entire universe. Once and for all,” with Tony Stark not so subtly declaring, “It’s all been leading to this.” The 30-second commercial isn’t subtle in what it’s representing, and it’s a given that Marvel will be beating that drum for the next month and a half until the film releases. It’s all the more refreshing, then, to see the marketing team have fun with this announcement.
On some level, it’s hard to deny that Infinity War is nothing but a 2+ hour, $200 million victory lap, not unlike the original Avengers film was in 2012. It would be hard to fault anyone for believing that this was all a tad arrogant or insufferable, but at the same time, why shouldn’t Marvel Studios be celebrating? It’s hit every goal it’s wanted to hit, with not a single concrete failure to date. Through ten years and nearly two dozen movies, Marvel has cemented itself as the cinematic universe to beat, and none of its imitators — the DCEU, Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man Cinematic Universe, Universal’s Dark Universe, Paramount’s Transformers Universe, Saban’s Power Rangers Universe — have come close to touching it. Whatever criticisms can be lobbed at the Marvel film franchise (and there are many ), it cannot be denied that a massive film like Infinity War is something that it’s largely earned the right to do.
The initial reveal of Infinity War in 2015 was met with widespread applause from the audience after seeing Thanos wield the Infinity Gauntlet for the first time. Since then, fans across the globe have been champing at the bit, eager to finally see the mad titan lock up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and thanks to Marvel’s latest piece of marketing genius, this time, we’ll all be able to experience it together.

New posters for Avengers: Infinity War share the best look yet at Thanos’ Black Order, plus some new looks at the heroes. After 10 years, Marvel Studios is finally bringing together characters from all across their vast universe. The reason for such a gathering is the payoff to their longterm goals first teased in the post-credits of The Avengers: the arrival of Thanos. While the Avengers have stopped their fair share of threats alone and together, nothing comes close to what the Mad Titan will bring. Making matters even worse, he won’t be alone in his effort for total control of the galaxy.
Thanos will be joined by the Black Order, who will be his children in the MCU take. With Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw, Cull Obsidian, and Corvus Glaive helping him on his journey, they’ll come face-to-face with the Avengers. The trailers make it appear as though they are doing his bidding and rounding up the Infinity Stones, leading to an epic battle in Wakanda against a team led by Captain America and Black Panther.

The actual footage released hasn’t really shown any of them off, but Marvel’s promoted their inclusion ever since the unveiling at D23. While we got a sense of their looks through those statues, they still haven’t really been put front and center. Trends International just revealed a bunch of new Infinity War posters, including one that puts the shine on the secondary villains. See that poster and more in the gallery below:
If this promo material is any indication of how the Black Order will actually look in the movie, it appears that Marvel will deliver on the visual aspect of them. Each of the characters looks identical to their comic counterparts, and they have a level of detail that is needed for CGI heavy creations like them. The poster also features additional looks at the Outriders (the alien race sent to battle in Wakanda), the giant ring devices seen in the trailers, and a fleet of spaceships Thanos also appears to have at his disposal. The latter haven’t been featured to this point in the marketing, but is an obvious need for Thanos’ forces as they travel throughout the galaxy.
The rest of the posters just continue to give more looks at the heroes, while something could be made out of which heroes they continue to promote. Star-Lord, Iron Man, Cap, Doctor Strange, Thor, and Spider-Man have consistently been in most of the promo materials, which could signify they are the biggest players in this story. However, some of the designs do raise more questions, such as why does Thor have both of his eyes again? Iron Man’s new armor also has a different design with a canon resting atop his right arm, instead of the entire arm turning into it – which could complicate theories that Tony loses a hand in the film. Whatever the case is, there’s even less time to wait than ever thanks to its new release date.
