Sony merilis trailer perdana ' Morbius ', karakter musuh Spider-Man selanjutnya yang diangkat ke layar lebar. Berikut penampakan Jared Leto dalam memerankan seorang antihero.
Can a superhero make echolocation, a.k.a. bio sonar — the ability to detecting objects by the way sound reflects off of them — sexy? Well, Sony sure believes it can.
The first trailer for Morbius, based on the vampiric anti-hero from Marvel comic books, was released on Monday. And in it, we’re introduced to Dr. Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) and helpful narration that explains the concept for anyone who may not be familiar with Marvel’s living vampire.
The trailer explains that as a human, Dr. Morbius is a gifted doctor living with an incurable blood disease and has to seek out a radical cure — stemming from vampire bats — to survive. It turns out that the “cure” works a little too well, and suddenly he’s gifted with all the powers of a vampire, including said echolocation, along with the unquenchable thirst for blood. And now the scales have tipped so far in the other direction, as Dr. Morbius goes from dying from a terrible disease to living, perhaps for eternity, as this monstrous thing.
The movie, directed by Daniel Espinosa (Life), presents another character to add to Sony’s growing Spider-Man universe. That’s a point of interest, in that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is directly incorporated within the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hence, if Leto’s Morbius is connected to Spider-Man, then the logic points to Morbius existing in the same world as the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, and Marvel’s future Blade movie.
Morbius’s trailer has a couple clues that he does in fact live in the same world as Spider-Man. The first being a mural of the friendly neighborhood webslinger, who is tagged in graffiti as a “murderer”:
The tag seems to reference the ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home, in which — spoilers! — Spider-Man is framed as the murderer of Mysterio, a scheme to smear Spider-Man’s name. Hence, Morbius could be taking place in that time frame.
The other takeaway is Michael Keaton’s appearance at the end of the trailer. Keaton played the villain known as Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Vulture ended that movie alive but incarcerated, and his meeting with Morbius could indicate a reemergence of the character and the two possibly teaming up against Spider-Man.
We’ll surely find out more about Morbius, his plans, and his connection to Spider-Man when the movie is released on July 31, 2020, and in the weeks leading up to the date.

Pseudo vampire Jared Leto has “an overpowering urge to consume blood” in the first trailer for Sony’s “Morbius.” Watch the video above.
“Morbius” is one of several projects being developed by Sony based on characters from the “Spider-Man” comics. The franchise paid dividends for the studio in 2018 with “Venom,” which grossed $855 million worldwide, and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” which grossed $327 million and earned a Best Animated Feature Oscar last year. Both films have sequels in the works.
Daniel Espinosa directed “Morbius” from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Lucas Foster produced the film with Palak Patel overseeing for the studio.

The Morbius character was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane and first appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man” issue no. 101 in 1971. In the comics, Michael Morbius is a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist who is transformed into a vampire while attempting to cure a rare blood disease with a highly experimental approach involving electroshock therapy… and vampire bats.
As a “pseudo-vampire,” Morbius does not possess all the powers of an actual vampire, and isn’t subject to all the traditional limitations and weaknesses thereof, according to Marvel lore.
He must digest blood to survive and has a strong aversion to light, like most vampires. But he also has the ability to fly, has superhuman strength, speed and healing abilities. His bite tends to be lethal, but his victims do not necessarily become vampires themselves.
Morbius almost made it to the big screen before. In 2000, when Arad was president and CEO of Marvel Studios, the company entered into an agreement with Artisan Entertainment to turn at least 15 Marvel superhero franchises into live-action films, television series, direct-to-video films or internet projects. Morbius would have been among the franchises.
“Morbius,” which stars Jared Leto, Tyrese Gibson and J.K. Simmons, is set to open in theaters on July 31.

The first trailer for Sony Pictures' Morbius has premiered. Starring Jared Leto in the title role as the vampiric Michael Morbius, the film is the first expansion of Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters, which kicked off with the Spider-Man-adjacent Venom.
Check it out:
"One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius," reads Sony's description of the film. "Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease."
Morbius is due out in theaters July 31.
Morbius (Sony)
Jared Leto may be done playing his much maligned take on the Joker in the DC Extended Universe, but thankfully there’s no shortage of comic book properties for him to latch onto. The latest is Morbius, part of Sony’s Marvel Universe (a.k.a., the scraps the studio was left with after making a deal to keep Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe). The first trailer has today been revealed, and it looks like there’s a shot this relatively obscure B-character could make good on the silver screen.
Leto plays the title character, a.k.a. Dr. Michael Morbius, a Noble Prize-winning scientist who attempts to cure his own rare blood disease with an experimental procedure involving bats. Technically it works — although the side-effect turns him into a pseudo-vampire; think Blade’s “all of their strengths, none of their weaknesses,” except Morbius looks like a vampire and needs to ingest fresh blood to survive.
Standing on the opposite side of the darkness is Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Loxias Crown, another neo-creature of the night known in the comics as Hunger. (He’s also a mutant in the books, but Marvel has all those X-Men rights back now.) Morbius also stars Adria Arjona as Leto’s love interested, Martine Bancroft, and Tyrese Gibson as the F.B.I.’s vampire hunter, Simon Stroud. Jared Harris also has a role as Morbius’ close confidant.

What’s more, the trailer reveals some incredibly close ties to the MCU’s existing Spider-Man series. In the background of one scene is an image of Spidey from the Tobey Maguire movies with the word “MURDERER” scrawled across it. Many have speculated this is in reference to the ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which (spoiler) finds Spider-Man publicly accused of killing Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). (They probably used the Maguire version because Marvel still owns all the rights to the Tom Holland take.) This seems to be all but confirmed by a surprise cameo that appears near the end of the Morbius trailer — by the Vulture himself, Michael Keaton.
Of course, Morbius was made while Sony was under the impression they’d be getting full rights to the Spider-Man franchise back, something that changed when star Tom Holland helped convince the studio to strike a new deal with Marvel. Exactly how the SMU will be able to connect to the MCU has always been up for debate, but it looks like we’ll be getting an interesting answer when Morbius claws into theaters on July 31st.
Check out the trailer below.
Morbius will mark the second entry in the SMU following 2018’s critically panned but commercially blockbuster Venom. Andy Serkis is directing returning star Tom Hardy in the follow-up, expected out October 2nd, 2020. A number of other films have been teased in various stages — including Silk, Nightwatch, Silver & Black, Kraven the Hunter, Jackpot, and most recently Madame Web — but none seem to be making much progress. Sequels and spin-offs for the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse seem like real possibilities, however.
