BTS ARMY REJOICE! A collaboration between BT21 — the animated characters created by the K-pop group — and the Japanese retailer Uniqlo has just been announced. The collab will feature 12 different t-shirt designs with the BT21 logo and characters front and center. Yes, that’s right, the adorably-fluffy and food-loving RJ and dance-lover Mang (whose real identity remains a mystery) will be featured on Uniqlo tees! We predict that these tees will sell like hotcakes. Fans online are already anticipating the large swarms of crowds that will ascend upon Uniqlo stores later this month.

The collaboration was created in conjunction with LINE FRIENDS, the super-cute characters based on the stickers from the mobile messaging app Line. TATA, VAN, KOYA, RJ, SHOOKY, MANG, CHIMMY and COOKY all make appearances on the designs. Plus, LINE FRIENDS just opened a store in Hollywood, where, for a limited time, you can get BT21 sticker packs and bags with purchases over $50 and $100.

The T-shirts will be available in men’s sizing XS – 3XL and cost $14.90 (budget friendly!). You can purchase the tees online and in-store at Uniqlo locations worldwide on June 21. Some of our favorite picks from the drop include a Commes Des Garcons inspired TATA heart-tee, a millennial pink COOKY tee with the message “PINKISH TOUGH BUNNY,” and a “Passionate Chimmy” tee that’s reminiscent of the artist Keith Haring’s designs (who also has a Uniqulo series).

Fans are gearing up for the drop by sharing reaction memes on Twitter and mourning their soon-to-be-empty wallets. (With a price of $14.99, who can resist getting two tees??)

Set an alert on your phone for June 21st because these items are sure to sell out fast.

Uniqlo then teamed up with them to create a few shirts based on these characters.

Here’s how the T-shirts look:

They released the collection today, June 21, 2019.

If you’re wondering how the queue looked in the morning, here it is:

In fact, the premonition of queues were already evident from June 20, 2019.

BT21 designs will be available at Uniqlo SG starting tomorrow and at Somerset branch, there’s queue already 😅 What’s the chance of me and mom getting ours 🥺😭 Some more, you can only purchase 1 item per transaction 😭😭 pic.twitter.com/ipWuMC0XXA — 🌻최 씨 부인🌻 (@xmrschoix) June 20, 2019

And a major reason for the dedicated but not that massive queue was Uniqlo’s guidelines.

Only one piece per UT design and colour.

Which would deter opportunistic scalpers.

And the way in which they apparently streamlined people in was quite ingenious as well.

I'm at Uniqlo for the BT21 shirts & there's a damn queue lol they've shut down the whole store & are only letting 10 people at a time — ash (@bluehairbias) June 21, 2019

“I’m at Uniqlo for the BT21 shirts & there’s a damn queue lol they’ve shut down the whole store & are only letting 10 people at a time.”

Which probably prevented scenes such as this.

And bonus aside, there doesn’t appear to be scalpers touting too overpriced a ware.

All in all, not bad.

Uniqlo knows a thing or two about elevating basics into highly sought-after items. In recent years, luxury labels Alexander Wang, Tomas Maier and Jil Sander have all partnered with the Japanese retailer on limited-edition designs, as have iconic artists KAWS and Keith Haring. For the company, collaborations provide a frisson of high fashion or a taste of a cultural phenomenon. Its latest collaboration with BT21, a group of animated characters created by K-pop band BTS, does the latter.

BTS has reached chart-topping fame in the U.S. over the last two years and has even picked up a few Guinness World Records for their incredibly engaged — mostly millennial — fan base. Testifying to its popularity, particularly among the young, the group was featured on the cover of Time magazine, and in April, became the first Korean band to perform on "Saturday Night Live."

The seven-member band gave birth to BT21 in September 2017, when they joined the Line Friends' Creators initiative, a project where the messaging app Line works with global artists on characters and product ideas. After several rounds of sketching and development, the boys landed on eight animated figures: Tata, Mang, Chimmy, RJ, Koya, Cooky, Shooky and Van. Each character represents a different member of the band, with the exception of Van, the gray-and-white space robot, who helps to protect BTS at all times. Since their release two years ago, BT21 stickers have recorded more than 28 million downloads and over 3.3 billion Twitter exposures globally.

For the unisex capsule, the all-male group worked with Uniqlo's UT imprint — the company's line dedicated exclusively to T-shirts — to print their uniquely charming characters, as well as their cool box logo, on a range of short-sleeve tees. Highlights include a pink tee starring the sassy rabbit Cooky, which features text that reads: "pinkish tough bunny," and a baby blue tee dedicated to the dancing pony Mang.

The shirts will begin rolling out at Uniqlo stores and online on June 21 and are all priced at $14.90. You can shop them all in the gallery below.

This article has been updated from its original version to include the exact launch date, as well as clarify that the character Van is not attached to any member of BTS, while Chimmy is Jimin's character.

After a successful collaboration with Brooklyn-based artist Kaws (Brian Donnelly), Uniqlo is set to launch another collection that is expected to be just as popular.

According to Uniqlo Indonesia’s official Instagram, the Japanese casual wear retailer is set to launch the BT21 x Uniqlo collection on June 21.

BT21 is a collection of characters created by South Korean group BTS members in collaboration with short-messaging application Line.

BTS is one of South Korea’s biggest boy bands, which makes BT21 x Uniqlo among the most hotly awaited collections.

Previously, the characters were made into various merchandise, such as plush toys, cushions, passport cases and more. The collections were very popular among the band’s fan base, who call themselves ARMY. Online items sold out immediately, while several offline stores ran out of stocks in less than an hour. (jes/wng)

The BT21 t-shirt line, which BTS created in partnership with Line Friends, features eight animated characters designed by each of the guys: there's Koya (RM), RJ (Jin), Shooky (Jungkook), Mang (J-Hope), Chimmy (Jimin), Tata (V), Cooky (Suga), and Van, who is the representative and "caretaker" of the entire group. These characters not only have their own backstories (Jungkook's character Shooky "loves jokes, especially ones on friends," for example) but they also act as proxies for each of the members.
