We’ve had set photos. We’ve had space-beepers. We’ve had comic universe teases. Hell, we’ve had notepads. But finally, finally, hope for a battered and bruised post-Infinity War Marvel Cinematic Universe has arrived—in the form of the mighty Captain Marvel herself!
As revealed by the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, we finally have our first official look at Brie Larson in costume as Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. Here she is, in all her high-flying glory:

The set photos we’d seen a while ago had already given us an idea of what to expect from Carol’s film look—or rather specifically looks, as the suit we saw was similar to this but in a very Kree-inspired green and blue, a callback to the origins of the Captain Marvel mantle as championed by the Kree warrior, Mar-Vell (purportedly played by Jude Law in the upcoming film). But at least now we can see it in the iconic red, blue, and gold we know as Carol’s iconic look since she first took on the mantle herself in 2012. And god damn does it look good.
Speaking of Law’s character, according to EW the film will open with Carol already having gotten her cosmic powers—as she heads to space to join the Kree comic book superteam known as Starforce, which will be lead by Law’s “enigmatic commander.” After spending time with the team in the film, Carol returns to her homeworld, only to face a bold new threat: the infamous shapeshifting Marvel villains the Skrulls, who will be lead by Ben Mendelsohn’s villainous Talos.
We already know a few more familiar faces are in the movie—helping out Carol we’ve got younger versions of Nick Fury and Agent Coulson, still played by Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg through the power of Marvel’s uncanny de-aging CG, and on the cosmic Kree-based side of things there’s Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou, reprising their Guardians of the Galaxy roles of Ronan the Accuser and Korath the Pursuer, respectively. Beyond that, there’s new characters like Kree scientist Dr. Minn-Erva, played by Gemma Chan, and mystery characters played by Annette Bening and Lashana Lynch (who we’re very much hoping could be bringing badass former Captain Marvel herself, Monica Rambeau, from the comics to the MCU).

It’s likely we’ll be seeing and learning a lot more of Captain Marvel this week—we’ll bring you more as we know it.
We got our first look at Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel earlier today, and now new images from the movie are rolling out from Entertainment Weekly, giving glimpses of the other actors and characters that featured in the next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Notably, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury has been digitally de-aged to look 25 years younger (the movie takes place in the ’90s, hence a younger, eyepatch-less Fury). According to details in EW’s story, Captain Marvel’s Nick Fury is not yet the fearless leader of S.H.I.E.L.D., but a mere desk jockey.
Also featured is Jude Law’s character, Mar-Vell (aka Walter Lawson), Captain Marvel’s mentor and leader of the elite military team known as Starforce, and an army of Skrull warriors storming a beach (looking a little like Planet of the Apes, but galactic).
Unlike typical origin stories, Captain Marvel is skipping past the whole “how’d she get the powers” arc, instead jumping right to a time when a super Carol Danvers joins Starforce on the Kree planet of Hala. Marvel fans will recognize the Kree from Guardians of the Galaxy — and both Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou are returning as their respective Kree characters.

We won’t get to see Captain Marvel, the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film, in theaters until March, but an exclusive Entertainment Weekly shoot gives us our first official glimpse of Brie Larson’s take on the superpowered character.
Unofficial photos of the set previously revealed that unlike the comics, where Captain Marvel’s costume is red, blue and gold, Larson’s costume is (at least initially) teal, silver and dark blue. Fans have pointed out that this teal suit is reminiscent of the first Captain Marvel: the alien hero Mar-Vell, who sported a green color scheme. Of course, Captain Marvel is an origin story that takes place in the ’90s, way before Carol Danvers will meet up with the Avengers as teased in the post-credit scene of Infinity War. That means there’s plenty of time for her to adapt the traditional suit over the course of the movie.
The official photos show off Larson in full-on Captain Marvel gear. Looks like those previously leaked photos were just a preview of the full thing — and that Captain Marvel will don her comics costume.

“She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face,” Larson tells EW of the character. “She’s also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she’s the first one out there and doesn’t always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw.”

Brie Larson made sure we all knew Marvel news was coming, and yet we still weren't properly prepared for Wednesday's first look (thanks to Entertainment Weekly) at the hero Captain Marvel. Before this, very little was officially known about the movie, but now, well, still very little is known but that really hasn't lowered the hype level around the internet.

Captain Marvel arrives next year on International Women's Day, March 8, capping off the longest wait we've had between MCU movies in years. The film will be the 21st in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the MCU's first female-led flick, and people are Here For It.
We know Larson will be playing Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who becomes a superhero after a meeting with the Kree alien named Mar-Vell; her powers include flight, super strength, and the ability to absorb and use energy (meaning she can shoot energy blasts and lasers from her hands). From the photos, it appears she'll be a part of Starforce, a collection of elite Kree warriors brought together by the Supreme Intelligence.

Now, thanks to EW, we also know more about where we'll begin the film and what we'll see. "Captain Marvel sidesteps the traditional origin-story template, and when it begins, Carol already has her powers," writes Devan Coogan.
And Larson gave us more on the extremely human character when speaking to EW: "She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face. She's also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she's the first one out there and doesn't always wait for orders. But the (not) waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw."

Director Anna Boden expands on that. "What makes (Danvers) special is just how human she is," she says. "She's funny, but doesn't always tell good jokes. And she can be headstrong and reckless and doesn't always make the perfect decisions for herself. But at her core, she has so much heart and so much humanity -- and all of its messiness."
We've all been clamoring for a look at Larson in costume, and info about her character, and with no official releases yet we were getting antsy, especially after last month's "accidental" merchandise reveals.
