Ariana Grande Knew She Wanted to Marry Pete Davidson 2 Years Ago

Ariana Grande knew she would marry Pete Davidson years before they started dating.

The No Tears Left To Cry hitmaker appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to celebrate the release of her fourth album Sweetener and she discussed the inspiration behind the track NAMED Pete Davidson, which Ariana is believed to have wrote just a week after they started dating.

Ariana, 25, talked about the beginnings of her romance with Pete, 24, and admits she knew he would go on to be his husband when they first met in March 2016 when she hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live - the sketch show that the comedian stars on.

Love at first sight: Ariana Grande knew she would marry Pete Davidson years before they started dating, she said when on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

Love at first sight: And in GQ, the 24-year-old comedian said he was ready to marry the pop princess 'the day I met her' when she hosted and performed as the musical guest on the hit NBC comedy sketch show in 2016

She told Fallon: 'Well, we met on SNL like two, three years ago whenever that was, we've like never exchanged numbers or anything - we weren't even like friends for a long time.

'But I had the biggest crush in the world on him the whole time, like forever my friends used to make fun of me for all that stuff.

'But I like left his writer's room and we were like writing skits and stuff for the show and my tour manager was in the hallway. 'I'm not like a crushy person I don't have crushes on people I don't know, but I left and I like jokingly said to my tour manager, I was like, 'I'm marrying him 100 per cent.' I was like, I'm literally marrying him.' '

Back story: She told Fallon: 'Well, we met on SNL like two, three years ago whenever that was, we've like never exchanged numbers or anything - we weren't even like friends for a long time'

The lyrics to the song 'Pete Davidson' includes lyrics such as: 'I thought you into my whole life / look at my mind yeah / no better place or time look how they align / universe must have my back, fell from the sky into my lap / and I know that you know you're my soul mate / I'm like ooh / my whole life I'm gonna be ready for you.'

Ariana's comments come in the same week that Pete revealed he knew he wanted to make the pop star his wife the first day he met her.

In an interview with GQ America magazine, he said: 'The day I met her, I was like, 'Hey, I'll marry you tomorrow.' She was calling my bluff.

Big crush: And she added, ''But I had the biggest crush in the world on him the whole time, like forever my friends used to make fun of me for all that stuff'

Bring it: She also opened the show by singing an Aretha Franklin song as a tribute to the icon who died on Thursday

If you put it out into the Universe, it may come back to you. Case in point: Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson.

We already know the SNL star wanted to marry his now-fiancée the first day they met, but now his better half has revealed the feeling was so mutual.

As the Sweetener songstress recalled to Jimmy Fallonon The Tonight Show Thursday, she's been crushing on the 24-year-old Staten Island native ever since 2016. As the story goes, they met on Saturday Night Live more than two years ago when she was hosting and serving as musical guest for the NBC variety show.

"We never exchanged numbers or anything. We weren't even friends for the longest time," she recalled to Fallon. While Grande doesn't consider herself a "crushy person," she secretly "had the biggest crush in the world on him the whole time—like forever."

As she noted, "My friends used to make fun of me for all that stuff."

Ariana Grande, a singer who describes herself as “not a crush-y person,” knew she was going to marry Pete Davidson after her episode of Saturday Night Live. She stepped out of the SNL writers room, Grande told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, and already knew she and Davidson would one day be boo’d up: “I left and I jokingly said to my manager, ‘I’m marrying him, like, 100 percent. I’m literally marrying him.’ We weren’t even friends, didn’t even see him at the after-party.” Ariana’s album Sweetener has a song named after her husband-to-be, and in classic Grande-Davidson fashion, the pop star says wrote the song not long after the first met: “[I wrote it] like a week after we started hanging out. I just made it and sent it to him. I didn’t know what to call it, so I called it ‘Pete.’” Anyway, this fact can not be overstated: If you want to date a celebrity, get a job at SNL!

Ariana Grande released her highly-anticipated album Sweetener on Friday (Aug. 17), and it includes a track named after her fiancé, "Pete Davidson." Below, Billboard breaks down the heartfelt song.

A Sweet Social Media Start

"Pete Davidson" begins with the lyrics, "I thought you into my life, whoa/Look at my mind, yeah," in reference to the caption of an Instagram Grande posted back in May.

A Match Made in Heaven

The next lines, "Universe must have my back/Fell from the sky into my lap," continue the theme set forth in "God Is a Woman," when Grande sings, "And he see the universe when I’m in company." The song makes it clear that Ariana and Pete feel a greater power is holding down their relationship, and the universe is fulfilling their destiny to be together.

Ari's Moving On From Mac

"My whole life got me ready for you, ooh, ooh/Got me happy, happy/I'ma be happy, happy, yeah/I'ma be happy, happy/Won’t get no crying from me, yeah," is a possible reference to starting a new relationship after breaking off what was described as a toxic relationship with her ex, Mac Miller. The lyrics also play off of the words in Sweetener's lead single "No Tears Left To Cry."

Inspiration Strikes After One Week

Finally, on Thursday night's episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the "God Is a Woman" singer revealed that she wrote the sweet ballad just a week after she and Davidson started hanging out; the couple then famously became engaged in June after only a few weeks of dating.

"We met on SNL two, three years ago," she explained. "We never exchanged numbers or anything, we weren't even friends for a long time. But I had the biggest crush in the whole world on him the whole time."

She never told Davidson at the time, but "I left his writer's room... [and] I'm not a crushy person, I don't have crushes on people I don't know. But I jokingly said to my tour manager, 'I'm marrying him. 100 percent,'" Grande added.
