Freeze on Umno accounts: We need to know source of money,…
PETALING JAYA: While counting for the Umno election is still underway, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamdi is said to be leading in the race for the party’s president post.
As at 4.47pm an anonymous Twitter account which is keeping track of the tally has placed Dr Ahmad Zahid in the lead with 29 divisional votes, followed by Khairy Jamaluddin with 23 votes and Tengku Razaleigh at 10 votes.
The @pemilihanUmno18 Twitter account said former Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan is leading the race for the deputy-presidency with 10 divisional votes, also as of 4.47pm.
The second candidate for the post Tan Sri Annuar Musa meanwhile received seven divisional votes.
Another source said that at 5pm, the number of divisional votes for Dr Ahmad Zahid has risen to 34.
Umno executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said that the party headquarters is only expected to announce the final results for the top positions at 1am on Sunday, at the very earliest.
PEKAN: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has questioned the move to freeze Umno accounts in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) investigations.The Pekan MP said if individuals were found to be involved, then the 1MDB task force should have frozen their accounts instead of Umno's."Umno is not guilty. If an individual is guilty, take action against them. Don't do it to the party."Umno has to function. We have responsibilities and duties. We have to run our divisions," Najib said at the opening of the Pekan Umno meeting here Saturday (June 30).The task force confirmed on Friday (June 29) that it has frozen several bank accounts of individuals and organisations, including that of Umno and other political parties.It believes the individuals and organisations were involved in misappropriation of 1MDB funds.It was reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has frozen about 900 accounts traced to that of 1MDB. Umno's main account was one of those frozen.
