Sting, Shaggy kick off Game 3 with free concert in DC

Pfft, who needs Imagine Dragons? Sting and Shaggy are holding a free concert in front of the National Portrait Gallery before Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday. Good luck topping that, Las Vegas!

WASHINGTON — Before the Capitals take to the ice in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday, Sting and Shaggy are taking to the steps in front of the National Portrait Gallery for a free show.

The show is open to the public. It began at 6 p.m. After the concert, the real show will begin when the Caps play their first Stanley Cup Final game on home ice in 20 years. The game starts at 8 p.m.

Another treat: Fall Out Boy will perform a free show at the same location before Game 4 on Monday, June 4. The concert will start at 6 p.m. rain or shine and will be open to the public.

After the performances, fans are welcome to stay to watch the games on video screens.

If you want to see the performance, give yourself a lot of time to get there. A series of street closures around the Capital One Arena are already in effect and will be through June 11.

If you can’t get to the concerts, you can watch portions of it during the live broadcast of the games on NBCSN.

If you miss the free concert and the broadcast, well, the good news is Sting and Shaggy will be back in September when they perform at MGM National Harbor as part of their “44/876 Tour,” which promotes their album of the same name.

If you wind up going to either the concert or the game Saturday, things will certainly be loud.

To protect fans’ hearing, the International Safety Equipment Association will be handing out free earplugs to 1,000 fans ahead of Game 3.
