Cars parked on streets close to Manchester Airport have been vandalised amid recent complaints about drivers leaving vehicles for long periods.

Two cars on Lownorth Road in Wythenshawe had their tyres let down and "No Parking" daubed across their side panels in white paint.

Residents have recently complained about owners leaving cars parked in the area for weeks at a time.

Greater Manchester Police described the vandalism as "completely unacceptable".

The force also said officers would take "positive action" against anyone found to have been involved.

Posting on Twitter, one resident said: "I would be devastated if this was my car. This puts Wythenshawe on the map for all the wrong reasons."

However, a father who did not want to be identified said congestion in the area is an ongoing problem.

His children have been forced to walk on roads after footpaths were blocked by cars, he added.

Passengers were forced to evacuate from a section of Manchester Airport after reports of the building “collapsing”.

Photos shared on Twitter show a crack which appeared beside a metal beam where travellers were boarding a flight to Palma at gate 212 in Terminal Two.

The airport say another crack has appeared in the floor which is causing the issue prompting the fire service to be called in order to evacuate passengers safely from the gate.

Gate 212 is currently housed inside a temporary building while work is taking place at the airport.

Passengers said they heard a loud noise at around 7am causing “everyone to panic”.

Andrea Atherton tweeted a photo of the crack, writing: “Been stood for 20 minutes where the temporary floors sound like they are collapsing. Finally evacuated outside. Trying to go on my cruise. Not great communication Manchester airport.”

Another passenger added: “About an hour ago there was a loud noise. Everyone was panicking. It looks like something is wrong with the building, it is collapsing.

A car owner is going to get quite the shock when they return from their holiday after it was vandalised while parked in a residential street.

Someone has written ‘no parking’ over the two red cars and white paint has been splashed on their bonnets over the bank holiday weekend.

Police said that tyres on the cars in Lownorth Road, Wythenshawe, less than half a mile from the airport, had also been let down.

However, one of the cars that was targeted was actually owned by someone who was visiting friends in the street.

Parking has increasingly become a contentious issue in residential areas around Manchester Airport with residents saying people are using the area to leave cars for weeks on end while on holiday.
