Guys, McDonald's Nasi Lemak Burger Is Finally Available Here In Malaysia!

The chicken patty tastes pretty good as well, with its hint of coconut, though the cornflakes crust was lacking that satisfying crunch. A bite of the burger, complete with the chicken, sambal, cucumber, egg, and onions, does evoke a nasi lemak vibe but we gotta say - it felt a little incomplete without the kacang and ikan bilis.

McDonald’s Malaysia has introduced its Nasi Lemak Burger to celebrate Malaysians’ love for its traditional all-time favourite local food. The burger will be launched starting today for a limited time only. In addition, McDonald’s Malaysia has also created a range of local flavours in its desserts menu such as the D24 Durian McFlurry, MILO McFlurry, Banana Pie, Pulut Hitam Pie, Red Bean Pie, Taro Pie and Cendol flavoured cone.

According to Melati Abdul Hai, chief marketing officer of McDonald’s Malaysia, the fast-food giant takes pride in offering “the Malaysia favourite”.

“McDonald’s Nasi Lemak Burger was inspired from the mouth-watering local nasi lemak sold by local vendors and we are proud to be able to pay tribute to them for keeping the nasi lemak legacy alive to this very day,” she said.

Melati Abdul Hai also added that McDonald’s had invited six nasi lemak vendors across Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya to join the celebration of this popular dish. Moving forward, McDonald’s is said to continuously seek to bring excitement to its menu with choices of meals that cater to the tastes of its diverse customers. The McDonald’s Nasi Lemak Burger will be joining the ranks of other all-time local favourites, which include the BuburAyam, Cakoi and the very popular Ayam Goreng McD.

Last year, ahead of the National Day event, McDonald’s Singapore also launched a new localised product line featuring items such as Nasi Lemak Burger, Chendol flavoured ice cream as well as the Bandung McFizz. This is also as part of a campaign with NS50 and the Singapore Food Festival 2017. It also created an ad spot titled “Just for you, Singapore” to promote the line.

This even saw Malaysian burger joint myBurgerLab launching the Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang burger ahead of Merdeka Day, following the release of the Nasi Lemak Burger by McDonald’s in Singapore. The new burger sparked debate between Malaysians and Singaporeans on social media , with some expressing their excitement and delight for the new burger while others calling myBurgerLab “copycats”.

Ever since McDonald’s Singapore launched their Nasi Lemak Burger last year, many Malaysians have asked the question “why not Malaysia first?”.

Well, better late than never, as McDonald’s Malaysia is finally launching a local version of Nasi Lemak Burger on 26th April 2018.

McDonald’s Malaysia’s version of Nasi Lemak burger consists of a juicy coconut flavoured chicken thigh patty coated with a cornflake crunch, and topped with a rich, sweet & spicy sambal sauce, fried egg, caramelized onions and cucumber slices.

If ordered a la carte, it’s priced at RM14.95 each while a regular set which includes French Fries and 100PlUS costs RM16.95. Not entirely cheap and I think that would be the main hindrance for most people to try.

And if you are wondering how is it different from the Singaporean version, our Malayisan version’s bun is chilli infused and the sambal tastes more local and authentic.

To be honest, I did not have any high expectation for the Nasi Lemak Burger initially. But it’s actually quite delicious. The fried chicken thigh patty is thick, juicy and you can definitely taste the coconut fragrance in it.

As for the sambal, it’s a respectful rendition though I would prefer it to be spicier. But of course, you can’t make it too spicy because it has to please the taste buds of the general public.
