It's Christmas 1183, and King Henry II is planning to announce his successor to the throne. The jockeying for the crown, though, is complex. Henry has three sons and wants his boy Prince John to take over. Henry's wife, Queen Eleanor, has other ideas. She believes their son Prince Richard should be king. (At around 19 mins) In the first cut of the film, the woman who warns Lucy not to enter the wardrobe that leads to "Gnarnia" was completely naked. On the basis of that scene, the MPAA gave the film an R rating. However, the filmmakers had anticipated that the nudity might be an issue, and had filmed the scene where the actress was wearing a bikini. When they inserted that scene and the board reviewed the film again, they immediately changed its rating to PG-13. See more

The movie was banned in Italy in 1982. Then Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti said of this that the film was "damaging to the honor of the [Italian] army". It has also been alleged that it was banned in Italy because the Italian Government maintained that the film was defamatory. The film was first broadcast on Italian television by Sky Italy on 11th June 2009 during the official state visit of former Libyan leader Muammar Gadaffi who had financed the picture. See more
