Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum are separating after nearly nine years of marriage.
The former couple announced the split in a joint statement exclusive to PEOPLE:
“Hey world!
So…We have something we would like to share.
First off, it feels odd that we have to share this kind of thing with everyone, but it’s a consequence of the lives we’ve chosen to lead, which we also happen to be deeply grateful for. We’re living in an incredible moment in time, but it’s also a time where truth can easily get distorted into “alternative facts” 😉 So we want to share the truth so you know that if you didn’t read it here then it’s most certainly fiction.
We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now. There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible. We are still a family and will always be loving dedicated parents to Everly. We won’t be commenting beyond this, and we thank you all in advance for respecting our family’s privacy. Sending lots of love to everyone, Chan&Jenna.”
The actors, both 37, have one child together — daughter Everly — who will turn 5 in May.
The couple most recently attended the Kids’ Choice Awards together where Tatum hit the stage to promote his new animated movie Smallfoot.
They first met on the set of their 2006 movie Step Up and began dating shortly after before tying the knot in 2009.

Buzz about a split began when Dewan Tatum attended the annual Vanity Fair Oscars after-party solo, but she told ET at the bash that Tatum was on daddy duty and “so happy to have a night off.”
And in mid-March the former couple shared sweet snaps from a face painting session with their daughter. “When you fall asleep around a toddler,” Dewan Tatum captioned a silly shot of Tatum before sharing a solo selfie of her own look.

In February, the actress opened up to Health about the perception that she and Tatum had a “perfect life,” saying instead that they worked hard to keep their relationship going.
“When people say you guys have such a perfect life, I want to scream and tell them no one’s perfect,” she said. “I think there are such things as great fits. It is a great fit as long as you are growing together, and I think up until this point we’ve really grown together. Even if one starts to grow, the other catches up and vice versa.”

Dewan Tatum said while they always made sure to make time for one another, they still had days where they didn’t get along.
“But I think a couple needs to be conscious and to want to do the work and be willing to look at the parts of you that need work. Both of us have been pretty aware and willing to do that,” she continued. “We’ve always had the same values. But we’re not perfect! Are you kidding? We fight like other couples, we disagree about things, we have days where we don’t really like each other.”
In December, Tatum wished his wife a happy birthday with a heartfelt Instagram post.
“This creature is one more year beautiful. The transformation she invoked this year has been something they only write about in books of fairytale and magic. Your strength and grace ever-evolving,” he wrote. “By doing so you make everything around you grow- everything. And I am so very grateful for your lessons. Happy life day my love.”

The two actors met on the set of the dance film Step Up in 2005, and married in 2009. They have a 4-year-old daughter, Everly.
Just two weeks ago Tatum shared a photo on Instagram of himself and Dewan covered in paint, with the caption: "This is what it looks like when a little tyrant fairy artist holds you down and makes your face look 'better'.
The pair famously appeared together in 2016 on an episode of Lip Sync Battle, where Dewan mimicked Tatum's performance in Magic Mike to the track "Pony" by Ginuwine.
Dewan currently hosts NBC show World of Dance, while Tatum, who has starred in films including Magic Mike, 21 Jump Street, The Hateful Eight and Logan Lucky, is set to voice the character Migo in upcoming animated film Smallfoot.

Last year Jenna got candid during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
In the episode, the dancer and actress opened up about the night Channing first seduced her while filming 2006's Step Up.
'He did this whole thing where he didn't want to be in a relationship, so I was like, "Look, if you want to date other people and be free, that's fine, but we're not going to hang out and watch movies.
'You've got to figure out what you want, because I know I want to be in a relationship with you,"' she told the TV host.
'So, three days goes by and he had gone out with all the dancers on Step Up, and he had this crazy, wild tequila night,' she added. 'He said he had the chance "to be free" and he couldn't stop thinking about me.'
Way back when: However, it was just short of two weeks ago that the parenting duo were featured in an Instagram snap together
Separate lives: The couple attended last month's Kids' Choice Awards separately - as he took the stage and she sat in the crowd with Everly
'So he comes down to my hotel room at two in the morning and he's banging on the door, and I'm like, "What's going on?" So I go and open the door, and he's in a sombrero, underwear, Ugg boots, and he's like, "Let's do this."'
The pair eventually went on to marry in 2009, and have one daughter together, Everly.
Four years ago the beauty told Us Weekly: 'We make sure we get good date nights. You've got to get out and be around adults, and not be speaking in a baby voice all day long - just for your own sanity!'
But the couple, who met on the set of Step Up in 2006, are closer and have also become better planners since Everly's arrival.
Happier times: The exes are seen with Everly in December at Disneyland's California Adventure on December 27, 2017

Jenna explained: 'As a whole, it just forces you to become a little closer, because you have to be on the same page with everything when it comes to making decisions.
'It's just like everything else. You give it like, "Okay, I have this luncheon today, so you watch Everly and I have this dinner." You just become way better at planning!'
She added: 'It's been a great perspective change. The things that used to maybe worry [me]...[were] replaced by just caring and being there for this little baby.'

At the same time, she also detailed how they find time for one another since Everly's arrival the previous year.

She added: 'It's been a great perspective change. The things that used to maybe worry me... were replaced by just caring and being there for this little baby.'
In the same year, in an interview with GQ, Channing confessed he believed himself to be an alcoholic before hinting his then-five year long marriage had not changed his wild ways at all as Jenna 'knew what she bought into'.
He said: 'My wife, that's what she bought into... I'm probably a pretty high-functioning, I guess, you know, I would say, alcoholic, I guess. There's probably a tendency to escape. I equate it to creativity, and I definitely equate it to having a good time.'
But Channing indicated that he did cut back on the partying after Jenna gave birth to Everly, and he pledged not to drink during the four months of filming that's required on the Magic Mike sequel: 'Then, at the end of that movie, it's go time'.
