Police in Kilmarnock have confirmed that a body found in a field near to Knockentiber on Monday is that of Keir White.
The 24-year-old was reported missing at the weekend, having been last seen on Friday morning.
On Monday the Standard spoke with his mother Donna, who issued a heartfelt plea for her son to get in touch.
She said she just wanted to know her son was safe – but hours later came the news that family and friends had been dreading.
Speaking to the Standard on Monday evening, a Police Scotland spokesman confirmed they had found Keir’s body.
The spokesman said: “Around 3.20pm on Monday, April 2, police were called to a report of the body of a man having being found within a field near to Greenhill Terrace.
“Formal identification is yet to take place however it is believed to be Keir White. His relatives are aware.
“A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course and the death is not being treated as suspicious."
Keir was due to attend at his work with Allied Vehicles in Glasgow on Friday before heading to a work’s night out in the city.
But police were told he failed to show up, leading to an investigation into his wheraebouts being launched.
Keir’s disappearance saw those closest to him take to social media appealing for information and help.
His girlfriend Amy was staying with his mum, and his 13-year-old half brother Jack, for support.
A report will now be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Mr White’s family had been made aware of the grim discovery.
Now his distraught girlfriend Amy Collins has paid tribute to him in a heartbreaking post on Twitter.
She had used social media to help spread the word of the appeal to help trace him.
And she took to Twitter again to pay tribute.

A BODY has been found in the search for a missing Kilmarnock man who hadn’t been seen since Good Friday.
We told you yesterday how Donald Keir White’s girlfriend made a frantic plea for help in finding the 24-year-old.

Now cops have said that the they were called to reports of the body of a man being found in a field near to Greenhill Terrace around 3.30pm this afternoon.
Mr White’s relatives have been made aware of the grim find.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Around 3.20 pm on Monday 2 April 2018, police were called to a report of the body of a man having being found within a field near to Greenhill Terrace.
“Formal identification is yet to take place however it is believed to be Donald Keir White.

THE girlfriend of a young man has led tributes to her “handsome boy” after a body was found in Kilmarnock.
Amy Collins’ heartbreaking message comes just hours after Police Scotland said the discovery had been made in a field near Greenhill Terrace, Knockentiber.
Donald Keir White, 24, had been missing from the area since Friday, March 30.
Amy said tonight: “Rest in peace, my handsome boy. Thank you for making the time I spent with you so special. You never know what’s hiding behind a big, gorgeous smile.
“Be kind to your loved ones. You never know when it’s the last time you’ll see them.
“I love you forever. My heart’s all yours.”

As reported by the Evening Times earlier, Police Scotland said a body had been discovered in the search for Donald.
The force said it believed the man in question to be Donald.
Police were called to the scene at around 3.20pm today.
A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Countless other tributes have been posted on social media tonight, many from local football clubs.
A spokesperson for Dean Thistle Football Club wrote: “Today, sadly, we have lost one of [our] brothers.This indeed is a very sad day for the club.
“Could I ask that everyone spares a thought tonight for this fantastic young man? The club would also like to pass on their deepest sympathy to his mother and all the family.

“Rest in peace, Keir. It was a pleasure meeting and working with you.”
Bonnyton Thistle Football Club wrote: “He was more than just a talented player. He was an extremely good-natured individual, a jovial character and, above all. a popular lad. He was loved in the dressing room and will be sorely missed by all.”
Crosshouse Community Football Club added: “We had the privilege of getting to know Keir when he was a volunteer coach at the club. He helped out for a year while his younger brother played with our 04s.
“Keir was a genuinely nice young man who we all had the privilege of getting to know and he was someone the younger players could look up to.
“One thing’s for sure: you will be sadly missed and thought of fondly.”
Pals also clamoured to pay tribute to the keen footballer.
One said: “Talk of the town and no surprise how highly everyone speaks of him. Absolutely wonder of a guy to lose. Been years since I’ve seen him but gonna be a very missed guy.”
Another said: “Devastating news about Keir. What an amazing boy who tried to help everyone when really he was the one who needed the most help. Rest in peace. Only if you knew how loved you were.”
“Can’t believe I’m writing this. What a truly amazing boy, always had such a big smile on his face. You will be missed,” was one comment as another friend posted pictures of Donald with two other men, saying: “Back when the three of us done everything together and couldn’t leave each other sides.”
