PNB announces 7sen and 2 additional bonus dividends for ASB unit holders

KUALA LUMPUR: Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) group chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said the restructuring of the group’s main investment companies helped the fund to outperform the broader stock market.

The 7.1% increase in net income to RM15.4bil during the first 11-month of the year allowed PNB to boost returns for its flagship funds Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) to a three year high.

“The growth was driven by stronger-than-expected economic growth and the successful implementation of PNB’s strategic plan,” Wahid told reporters at a briefing on Friday.

Assets under management at PNB swelled to a new high of RM276.5bil in the first 11 months of this year.

Wahid expects the fund’s size to end the year at about RM279bil with the completion of the sale of an office building in Brisbane, Australia.

“It has been an impactful year for us at PNB and I am happy that we are able to announce a higher income distribution for ASB unitholders today, including a special bonus,” he said.

“Despite a softer local market in the second half of the year, the majority of PNB’s strategic and core companies outperformed the KLCI,” he added.

The top performer for the fund was Malayan Banking Bhd , in which the fund has a 48% stake. The bank’s market value has risen 19% so far this year, hovering at RM101bil.

Sime Darby is up 4.7% year-to-date.

PNB will distribute 8.25 sen a unit for ASB for the year ending Dec 31, 2017, comprising a dividend of seven sen a unit, a bonus of 0.25 sen a unit and a special bonus of one sen a unit for up to 10,000 units.

The total distribution of RM10.7bil will benefit 9.1 million unitholders. The majority, numbering 7.5 million, will get an effective return of 8.25 sen.

Wahid also announced the payout of 3.65 sen a unit for its ASN, its first variable-price fund. This translates to a yield of 5%, contributing to a year-to-date total return of 15% as at Dec 21, 2017.

The transactions for ASB and ASN have been suspended from Dec 20 and will resume on Jan 2, 2018.

KUALA LUMPUR: Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB)'s wholly-owned subsidiary, Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB) declares an income distribution of seven sen per unit and a bonus of 0.25sen per unit for its flagship fund, Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) which will be paid out on 2nd January 2018.

The group also announced an additional bonus of one sen a unit in line with Special PNB 40th Anniversary Bonus, for the first 10,000 units for ASB, to be paid out on 1st March 2018.

The dividend is paid out of ASB’s net income whilst the bonus and special anniversary bonus are paid out of PNB’s proprietary funds at its discretion.

PNB will then collectively pay out a total distribution of RM10.7 billion for the financial year ending 31 December 2017, which would benefit 9.1 million unit holders who own over 145.6 billion units in ASB.

“The majority of unit holders, numbering some 7.5 million balances up to 10,000 units will get an effective return of 8.25 sen,” said PNB group chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar at the group’d results announcement here, this morning.

“This income distribution represents a premium of 4.85 per centage points over ASB’s benchmark, which is the average three-months KLIBOR of 3.4 per cent as ASB recorded a net income of RM8.91 billion, as of at 30 November. This is on the back of Malaysia's strong economic growth which is on track for a full year gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 5.8 per cent and the successful implementation of PNB’s STRIVE-15 strategic plan to date.

PNB also announced an income distribution of 3.65 sen a unit for its first variable-price fund, Amanah Saham Nasional (ASN), which translates to a dividend yield of five per cent and contributing year-to-date total return of 15 per cent as at 21 December 2017.

The total income distribution of RM69.4 million will benefit 1.2 million unit holders with 1.9 billion units in the fund.

The group's total assets under management (AUM) grew to RM276.5 billion by November this year, representing an increase of 4.6 per cent year-on-year.

He said the total distribution of RM10.7 billion would benefit 9.1 million unitholders who owned more than 145.6 billion units in ASB.

“The majority of unitholders, numbering some 7.5 million with balances of up to 10,000 units will get an effective return of 8.25 sen a unit, 800,000 unitholders who own between 10,001 and 40,000 units will receive at least 7.5 sen.

“The remaining 700,000 unitholders will receive at least 7.26 sen,” he said.

Meanwhile, PNB also announced an income distribution of 3.65 sen per unit for its first variable-price fund, Amanah Saham Nasional (ASN) for FY17.

“This also translates to a dividend yield of five percent and contributing to the year-to-date total return of 15 percent as at Dec 21, 2017,” said Wahid.

As at Nov 30, 2017, ASN recorded a net income of RM72.65 million, and the total income distribution of RM69.4 million will benefit 1.2 million unitholders with 1.9 billion units in the fund.

Describing 2017 as an eventful year for PNB, Wahid said the company’s net income grew 7.1 percent to RM15.4 billion while the total assets under management rose 4.6 percent to RM276.5 billion as of November 2017 from RM264.3 billion in the same period last year.

“Unit trust funds constitute RM232.6 billion of this amount, while the remaining RM43.9 billion is PNB’s own proprietary funds,” he said.
