EFL Cup telah memasuki babak perempat final dimana tinggal 8 klub yang akan bersaing untuk memperebutkan gelar juara.
8 kesebelasan tersebut terdiri dari enam klub dari Premier League dan satu klub dari Championship Division dan satu klub dari League One.
Di pertandingan pada hari Rabu (19/12/2018), 2 tim beda divisi akan bertanding yakni Middlesbrough akan berhadapan dengan Burton di Riverside Stadium.
Tim asuhan Toni Pulis, Middlesbrough lebih dijagokan untuk lolos mengingat secara divisi mereka lebih tinggi dibanding sang lawan Burton Albion.
Namun bukan berarti Middlesbrough bisa bersantai, Burton mengejutkan di gelara EFL Cup musim ini, mereka sukses menyingkirkan dua kesebelasan yang berbeda divisi, Burton menyingkirkan Burnley yang bermain di Premier League dan Nottingham Forest yang bermain di Championship.

The reaction from Puel to substitute Albrighton’s equaliser demonstrated no little relief that his team were back in it but he will have been crestfallen at the penalties.
The changes that Puel made to his team were deep, seven of those who started the defeat to Palace three days earlier left out and not even a place on the bench for Jamie Vardy, recently returned from a groin injury. The Leicester manager could point to the eight changes made by Guardiola to his team that beat Everton on Saturday but Manchester City are a very different proposition when they shuffle the pack in the League Cup.
