India 27/1, with Shaw having made 24 of those. There are absolutely no nerves about Shaw (22* off 16), scoring freely and all around the wicket with ease. India 24/1Debutant Prithvi Shaw took the first ball. That was brave. Gets off the mark in style with a punch through the covers. But KL Rahul (0) at the other end doesn't last long. Out LBW, reviews but waste. Lewis, S GabrielIndia win the toss and decide to bat first. Jason Holder out injured for West Indies.Toss coming up in 10 minutesHere's a video of batting prodigy Shaw sharing his thoughts ahead of his big day- Good morning and a very warm welcome to the start of another Test series for India, this time in home comfort, as West Indies begin their tour with the first Test at Rajkot. There is a breath of fresh air about the start of this series, with the much-awaited debut of young opener Prithvi Shaw a certainty after India announced a shortlist of 12 players on the eve of the Test on Wednesday. So quite rightly it's going to be 'Shaw Time' in Saurashtra.Stung by defeat in England and heading to Australia for a tough tour next month, India's cricketers are looking for some confidence-boosting home victories against the West Indies from Thursday. The number one Test side and the winner of last week's Asia Cup start as favourites against the eighth-ranked West Indies in the series of two Tests, five one-day internationals and three twenty20 games."West Indies doesn't have a team to compete against India. They don't stand a chance at all," veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh told AFP ahead of the first Test in Rajkot starting on Thursday. But India may not find it so easy, with series defeats this year in England and South Africa revealing some serious chinks in India's armour, at least away from home.India, under talismanic captain Virat Kohli, have new faces in uncapped batsman Mayank Agarwal and fast bowler Mohammed Siraj.Siraj will bolster the pace attack led by Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav who could trouble the relatively young West Indian batting line-up.Meanwhile spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are a formidable force on home turf. The Jason Holder-led West Indies are arriving off the back of a successful home season where they drew a Test series against Sri Lanka and then drubbed Bangladesh 2-0.Batsman Sunil Ambris has already made his case for a place in the team XI after his unbeaten 114 in the tourists' only warm-up game in India. The erstwhile cricket powerhouse have been bolstered by the return of experienced quick bowler Kemar Roach who will join fellow pacemen Holder and Shannon Gabriel."We have played some really good cricket in recent times. Quite a few of our guys stood out individually and we have to keep that collective strength," Holder was quoted as saying by The Hindu newspaper."India is the number one Test team. They have played some good cricket despite their last series (against England). It will be a good test for us," Holder, captain in 26 of his 34 Tests so far, said.Holder also said that leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo could prove to be key on turning Indian tracks."He has been around for a while and doing well. The conditions could favour him a bit more here. We expect him to come into play in this series and be a match-winner," he said of Bishoo. It will be West Indies' first India tour since the Caribbean side abandoned their 2014 trip due to a players' pay dispute with the national cricket board.

For the first time ever, India announced a 12-member squad a day ahead of the game. Prithvi Shaw is all set to make his debut while there will be a race between Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep for a place in the playing XI. For West Indies, skipper Jason Holder will hold the key for the side and will have the responsibility to perform captaincy and the all-round duties simultaneously. Devendra Bishoo could turn out to be a threat to the Indian batsmen.

Live Score, India vs West Indies, 1st Test, Day 1

13:50 IST: The bowling rate has been the talking point of the day. The visitors have just completed 46 overs and they might not be able to bowl full quota of 90 overs, even if the day's play is extended. India are 214/2. Kohli hasn't scored a run yet.

13:41 IST: India 213/2. Kohli and Shaw are out in the middle at the moment and we are just half hour away from the tea break. Kohli is yet to open his account while Shaw is on a score of 120. This is also an opportunity for Kohli to score big and continue his good form in the longest format of the game.

13:30 IST: Gone! Sherman Lewis breaks the partnership as Pujara edges it to the wicket-keeper on a score of 86. Shaw and Pujara's partnership of 206 comes to an end. What a big wicket for the debutant. Pujara misses a well-deserved century here. India 209/2.

13:21 IST: There is no stopping to Shaw and Pujara. The duo has shared 198 runs for the second wicket and India are 200/1 at the moment. Pujara is on 85 while Shaw is on 109. Great time for India. West Indies are in a desperate need of a wicket here.

13:11 IST: Keemo Paul is suffering from an issue here. He was down one ball before completing his over and the bowler finally completes his over. Tough times for West Indies players in Rajkot heat. India 193/1.

12:57 IST: India 186/1. The partnership of Shaw and Pujara seems unbreakable here and the duo has already put up 183 runs on the board together. They haven't shown any signs of being in trouble and India are moving ahead with a good run-rate here.

12:43 IST: 100 up for Prithvi Shaw. What a milestone for the youngster. He achieves this feat on his Test debut. Bravo! What a year it has been for him. U-19 World Cup, IPL contract and now a ton. One of the rare achievement for any player in the history of the game. Shaw is an elated boy here. He has become the second-youngest Indian batsman to score a century for India.

12:29 IST: Prithvi Shaw is on verge of scoring his maiden Test ton. He is 92*, facing Devendra Bissho. The best part of his innings has been that he has not slowed down and has played each ball on its merit.

12:20 IST: The intensity has not gone down after lunch. Both Shaw and Pujara are minting runs easily. The former is on a score of 85 and is nearing his maiden Test ton. Pujara, on the other hand, is on 66. India 153/1.

12: 10 IST: With Prithvi Shaw at 5th, here's the list of youngest openers to score a half-century (overall):

1. 17y 302d Hanif Mohammad v Ind, Delhi, 1952

2. 18y 105d J Stollmeyer v Eng, Lord's, 1939

3. 18y 290d Tamim Iqbal v NZ, Dunedin, 2008

4. 18y 294d Imran Farhat v NZ, Auckland, 2001

5. 18y 329d PRITHVI SHAW v WI, Rajkot, 2018

11: 55 IST: Prithvi Shaw stands a good chance of converting his half-century into a hundred. Cheteshwar Pujara has looked as he mostly has, an ever-reliable figure at the No. 3 spot. The limelight, however, has been hogged by Shaw who looks destined for greater things.

11:31 IST: It's lunch, India 133/1 after 25 overs. Great session for India. Barring that wicket of KL Rahul, everything went in their favour. Prithvi Shaw was the man of the session as he scored 75*. Pujara, on the other hand, scored 56* off 74. He had a slow start but covered up soon. West Indies are in all sorts of trouble and they need wickets in bunches in the second session. We will see in next 40 minutes from now in the second session.

11:13 IST: Shaw and Pujara aren't giving any chance to West Indies here. Gabriel is putting extra effort but isn't getting any wicket here. He had dismissed KL Rahul on a duck earlier in the day. Lunch break nearly 15 minutes away now.

11:00 IST: Prithvi Shaw has become the youngest-ever Indian to score a half-century on debut. The teenager reached the milestone with a single of Roston Chase. A 100 is on the cards for him and the batsman will eye that elusive three-figure mark. India are 89/1 after 18 overs.

10:51 IST: Roston Chase was brought on to bowl the 16th over. West Indies going with all-spin strategy here. This is Chase's second series against India, first one in India. Shaw nearing his maiden Test fifty. He is batting on 46. India 77/1.

10:41 IST: 13 overs done, India 58/1 and Shaw welcomes Paul with a four on the first ball of 14th over. This is a crucial time in the game as Shaw is on the road of posting a big total and West Indies need a wicket here. Both the batsmen can become a headache for the visitors. Meanwhile, Shaw moves onto 42 with another boundary.

10:31 IST: Barring Gabriel, none of the bowlers have looked in touch till now. Inexperienced Paul and Lewis are struggling here and Shaw is the man here who is doing the task. West India have an open field. Tough time for visitors. India 54/1.

10:19 IST: And now Pujara opens up, hitting two boundaries off Sherman Lewis. The debutant (Lewis) is finding it tough to settle here and a spinner has been brought in now. Devendra Bishoo is on and it will be a big test for Indian batsmen to face him. This pitch has everything for spinners India 35/1.

10:09 IST: Shaw has been the highlight of this 22-run partnership as Pujara's contribution is just 1 run. He averages 71.50 at this venue and is expected to play a big knock. For that, he will take all his time. Shaw is playing his natural game, playing almost every kind of shot. India 25/1.

09:59 IST: Shaw is dealing in boundaries here. He smashed three fours off Keemo Paul in the fourth over and the batsman is playing at T20 pace here. Pujara, on the other hand, is showing no hurry, doing the slow work. India 24/1.

09:49 IST: Gabriel is bowling well here. Cheteshwar Pujara had a bit of trouble facing him. Shaw, on the other hand, has had no such issues as of now. He is playing him on merit. End of over number 3, India 12/1.

09:37 IST: Gone! KL Rahul is out for a duck, plumb. Looked like the ball swung a bit more than he expected and it went onto touch his pads without making a contract with the bat. Rahul asked Shaw whether he should review or not and in the end, he opted for one. A wasted review and Rahul is out. He fails to carry his form of the last Test against England, where he scored 149 in the second innings. India 3/1.

09:31 IST: Shanon Gabriel has the new ball for the West Indies and it will be Prithvi Shaw who will face the first ball of the match, also the first Test of his Test career. All in readiness and the action starts. The last time India played a Test here (against England in 2016), they managed a draw as England ran out of overs to dismiss the home team.

09:20 IST: The first session of the game will be a crucial one for both the teams. India have debutant opener in form of Prithvi Shaw who will be under pressure to settle his nerves. On the other hand, West Indies are without Holder, their prime pacer, which is the biggest loophole in this team.

09:11 IST: Here is the playing XI of both the teams -

India: Lokesh Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli(c), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant(w), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav.

West Indies: Kraigg Brathwaite(c), Kieran Powell, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase, Sunil Ambris, Shane Dowrich(w), Keemo Paul, Devendra Bishoo, Sherman Lewis, Shannon Gabriel.

09:01 IST: Surprise! No Jason Holder at the toss and Kraigg Brathwaite, who is playing his 50th Test, is leading the team. Holder is missing this game due to an ankle issue. India bat after winning the toss. No Shardul Thakur from the 12-member list released by the Indian team. This means that India are playing with three spinners.

08:47 IST: West Indies will have a tough task to get past India in this series. The last time they toured India for a Test series (in 2013), the home side crushed them and whitewashed them 2-0. This is a chance for India to post another stamp of authority over Caribbeans.

08:34: IST: Virat Kohli is all set to play his first Test in India in 2018. He wasn't a part of the Test side that played against Afghanistan. Prithvi Shaw will play his first Test. This game could also turn out to be the first one for Shardul Thakur. Toss in another 25 minutes.

12:10(IST)

Welcome back for the second session of the day, all eyes will be on Shaw as he approaches ton on debut. He could become the youngest Indian to register a century on debut, if he reaches the landmark! Pujara meanwhile will continue to pile on the runs from the other end, early wickets will again be key for India.
