Germany vs Peru LIVE SCORE: Latest commentary for the international friendly tie

GERMANY will look to get back to winning ways when they face Peru.

The 2014 world champions are still reeling from a poor World Cup and their recent 0-0 draw against France.

FULLTIME: Germany pick up the 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Julian Brandt and Nico Schulz who was on his debut.

In addition to Schulz, Kai Havertz and Thilo Kehrer also received their Germany debuts.

91’ — Four minutes of stoppage time will be played.

90’ — Free kick for Peru. The ball bounces harmlessly out of bounds, but the referee awards a corner kick. Apparently Rüdiger touched it.

88’ — Kai Havertz now replaces Timo Werner.

85’ — Funny how that works: a moment after Müller comes on, a cross intended for him from Petersen rolls to Schulz, whose shot manages to roll under Gallese’s arms despite being hit rather weakly.

84’ — Two more big chances: Petersen can’t get his head on a cross that flies right across Peru’s goal. On the following play, Kroos plays a pass to Draxler on the edge of the penalty area, but his powerful shot is high.

Thomas Müller now replaces Gundogan.

82’ — Draxler is back up and running.

80’ — Advincula takes out Draxler with a scissor tackles and immediately apologizes. Draxler gets up but goes to the sidelines for treatment.

79’ — Thomas Müller and Jonathan Tah are warming up.

76’ — Calcaterra replaces Yotun.

73’ — Advincula sees the yellow card for cheekily blocking Toni Kroos’s free kick just a foot from where Kroos was standing. Kroos retakes the kick and it nearly results in a goal, but Petersen can’t get a decent shot off the ball after Gallese punches it.

Now Advincula has gone down in front of Peru’s goal and is being treated. He seems to have hit his head during the corner.

72’ — Ginter is replaced by Thilo Kehrer.

70’ — Nils Petersen replaces Julian Brandt.

67’ — Flores is replaced by Lopez. Meanwhile, Nils Petersen is up on the sidelines.

65’ — Peru continue to threaten Germany. But the game is interrupted as Flores goes down on the edge of Germany’s penalty area. He seems to have pulled something in redirecting a ball for an attack.

58’ — Now Farfan does the same thing for Peru. Gundogan dribbles mindlessly into a wall of Peruvian defenders. Peru then plays a fast counter. Advincula finds Farfan with a fantastic pass, and Farfan, one on one with Ter Stegen, lofts it harmlessly over the goal.

55’ — Timo Werner wastes a great counter-attack and a brilliant pass through Peru’s defenders by Brandt, firing the ball over the goal.

54’ — Ter Stegen makes a massive save. Cueva’s corner kick finds Aquino, whose shot Ter Stegen leaps to knock down. Ter Stegen blocks the rebound as well, and Germany clears the ball away.

53’ — Germany concede a corner, as Schulz kicks the ball out.

48’ — Kimmich goes down after a glancing blow. He walks with Germany’s physios to the sidelines before returning to the pitch.

Kickoff of 2nd half: Löw makes two substitutions as expected: Rüdiger replaces Boateng, and Draxler replaces Reus.

minutes before 2nd half: Antonio Rüdiger and Julian Draxler are up and ready to come on.

HALFTIME — The score stays 1-1 in this back-and-forth game.

45’ — Trauco rather rudely fouls Timo Werner, conceding a free kick. Kroos delivers the ball to Schulz on the left, but nothing comes of it.

43’ — Peru strike again on a counter, forcing Germany to concede a corner.

41’ — Peru’s Yotun takes a shot at Ter Stegen from range.

38’ — Reus intercepts the ball in the right midfield and Germany puts together a magnificent fast break culminating in a shot by Gundogan. Yet again, though Gallese stops the shot.

Niklas Süle is dragged down in Peru’s penalty area, but the referee missed it.

36’ — Gundogan finds Shulz out left, but he harmlessly kicks the ball to the keeper. Not a great showing so far for the newcomer.

35’ — Werner again beaten by Gallese in front of the goal. An earlier goal just a moment beforehand was disallowed for offsides.

30’ — It’s been a fiercely contested battle in the midfield for the past five minutes. Both Peru and Germany have taken turns in possession, but neither has succeeded in getting past the other’s pressing game.

25’ — GOAL FOR GERMANY! And just like that Germany equalize: Peru buckles under Germany’s pressure deep in their half. Ginter intercepts a desperate pass and sends the ball back to Kroos. Kroos somehow manages to keep control of it and passes to Brandt forward on the right. Brandt puts it away in the net.

23’ — GOAL FOR PERU! Germany now is ruing those missed chances: Peru launch a counter attack and find Advincula out wide on the right. He beats Schulz, cutting in side, and then fires a perfect shot past Ter Stegen at the near post. Peru lead 1-0.

21’ — Luck for Peru: after Peru is dispossessed just outside of their box, Timo Werner crosses the ball for Reus, but Reus fires the ball wide of the net. A second change moments later similarly goes wrong, when Reus mishits a cross from Gundogan near the penalty spot.

20’ — Brandt and Reus try to set up Werner in Peru’s penalty area, but they just cannot break through.

14’ — Werner wins Germany another corner.

13’ — Corner for Germany as Ginter’s cross is deflected out of bounds. Peru concedes a second corner: Kroos finds Ginter, but Gallese is able to block it.

11’ — Kimmich plays a long diagonal pass to Ginter, but he overhits the cross for Werner, and it lands in the keeper’s hands.

9’ — First corner for Peru. Germany slow to reclaim the ball.

7’ — Peru are challenging the Germans, winning the ball in their half and driving forward. So far Germany’s defense has been equal to the challenge.

2’ — Gundogan plays Reus free splitting Peru’s center-backs. But Reus is too close to the keeper to get a clean shot off. The ball goes out of bounds and Germany receive their first corner.

kickoff — We’re underway. Germany start with the ball and begin to build up.

10 minutes to kickoff: It looks as if Jogi Löw wants to build on the progress made versus France by retaining most of the starting lineup. Nico Schulz gets the nod at left-back, Matthias Ginter at right-back, and Joshua Kimmich again in the central midfield. The offense features Julian Brandt on the right wing this time from the start.

The re-reboot of the German national team continues, as Jogi Löw retools his squad in preparation for Euro 2020. Having drawn France 0-0 in Germany’s debut Nations League match, Löw can test some younger players in a pure friendly match against Peru.

It will be a special occasion in particular for Hoffenheim’s own Nico Schulz. You may remember him as the defender whose reckless tackle seriously injured Kingsley Coman. Yep, that Nico Schulz. He will be standing in the starting lineup along with Marc André ter Stegen and Julian Brandt. Since Mats Hummels is out (Achilles issue), Niklas Süle is also almost certain to start.

As for the rest, we’ll see. Joshua Kimmich will probably play as Germany’s central defensive midfielder again, but Löw may field a more offensively oriented lineup ahead of him against Peru.
