Celebrity MasterChef 2018: ‘I felt a disadvantage’ Stella Parton reveals shock challenge

The celebrities will be tasked with three challenges this evening, which will include working in a professional kitchen. All five stars will be given the same mystery box to produce a meal from in the first round before heading to a restaurant to work in a professional kitchen. The final challenge will see the celebrities produce a two course meal for the judges. However, one Celebrity MasterChef contestant has admitted they felt they were at a “disadvantage” to other stars.

Stella explained that while she regularly cooks at her home in America, she found it difficult to get used to using the metric system. She told TV Times: “I felt I probably wasn’t as prepared as I needed to be – I struggled with the temperature of the stove and measuring ingredients because we use a different system in the States. “So I felt at a disadvantage to the other contestants. “But I believe once you take up a challenge you just have to get on with it… It’s sink or swim.” During her time on the show, Stella also sang for judge Gregg. Explaining the moment, she dished: “Oh, I only did that ‘cause he asked me to! I wasn’t trying to win points or anything.

Celebrity Masterchef fans were surprised to see a country music legend on the show.

The Masterchef heats continued on Thursday night with the likes of Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfro, Strictly dancer AJ Pritchard and actor Lisa Maxwell.

And they were joined by none other than country singer Stella Parton.

She wasted no time in showing off her beautiful voice, serenading judge Gregg Wallace in the kitchen during the first heat.

If you couldn’t tell from the surname, Stella is indeed the sister of music icon Dolly Parton.

The 69-year-old is three years younger than the Jolene singer.

She has a string of top 40 hits to her name in the US, including The Danger Of A Stranger and I Want To Hold You In My Dreams Tonight.

Speaking about growing up with Dolly, she has said in the past that they often fell out because they were so close in age.

Stella said: ‘I was so close in age to her, I always wanted to do what she was doing and I was just young enough for her to think that she knew more than me, so I always made sure that she lived hard for it.

‘She made my life miserable too, but I love her a lot and she loves me a lot.

‘I think we’re a lot alike. Not because we want to be.

‘We shared a bedroom together and she was messy and I was neat. And we would write songs together and she always wrote the good lines and would laugh at my bad ones.

‘But it was not that bad, except the main thing I didn’t like was that she loved to tell dirty jokes.

‘They used to sit at the back of the school bus and she’d always make me sit in front because I was too young to hear the jokes they were telling at the back and that would always drive me crazy.

‘It was two sisters…I always wanted her to accept me and let me part of her gang which was never gonna happen.’

Stella has written three cookbooks, including Really Cookin’ with Stella Parton, State Fairs and Church Bazaars and Stella Parton’s Country Cookin’.

As well as music she has also acted in films alongside Dolly – Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colours in 2015 and the 2016 follow up Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colours: Circle of Love.

In the final round on Masterchef, she whipped up country fried chicken with fried potatoes, with a banana pudding she described as ‘a traditional after church on a Sunday dinner’
