Premier League transfer window: Everton and Fulham enjoy busy deadline day but Man Utd and Tottenham misfire

The English transfer window has closed, ahead of the new Premier League season kicking off on Friday evening, and there were mixed fortunes for the top-flight clubs on what turned out to be a busy deadline day.

Chelsea unveiled their new £71.6m goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, while his predecessor Thibaut Courtois was given the same red-carpet treatment at Real Madrid, and the club also announced the arirval of Mateo Kovacic from Real on a season-long loan.

Jose Mourinho's gloomy transfer window - in which the £52m Brazilian midfielder Fred was the only high-profiled capture - ended without a new centre-back, after Manchester United's enquiry for Atletico Madrid's Diego Godin was swiftly rebuffed. United begin their domestic season against Leicester tomorrow.

The Premier League's transfer deadline day has closed Manchester United and Tottenham left with regrets.

Jose Mourinho was desperate to add at least one new face today but failed to do so with approaches for Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld, Leicester's Harry Maguire and Atletico Madrid's Diego Godin all coming to nothing. As Thibaut Courtois finally left for Real Madrid, Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic arrived on a season-long loan.

Everton were deadline day's biggest movers with Shakhtar Donetsk's Bernard arriving on a free transfer before sealing a double deal for Barcelona's Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes. Tottenham on the other hand became the first team since the introduction of the summer window not to sign a single player.

We will have all the latest news, late done deals plus all the latest reaction right here so don't touch that dial.

We go again

It's only been four weeks since Kieran Trippier's free kick sailed into the top corner of the Croatian net and had England fans dreaming of World Cup glory.

Two hours later, after Mario Mandzukic's extra-time winner, most football fans could have been forgiven for, quite frankly, not caring one jot about the Premier League.

But tomorrow night, it is back, and we will be here with live coverage of the season opener between Manchester United and Leicester City.

Nothing like a Harry Maguire winner to improve Jose Mourinho's mood, ey?

Goodnight.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all looking for last-minute deals as they try and close the gap on Premier League champions Manchester City. And Tottenham who have been quiet all summer are another side who could make a late swoop. Indeed transfer expert Duncan Castles believes both Liverpool and Chelsea could make a bid for Pulisic.

Ousmane Dembele to Arsenal Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele has been linked with a move to the Gunners this summer.
