Match Preview

Ibrahimovic and Villa have been ruled out of playing in the game against Juventus. The former Swedish international was set to lead the line against his former team, but was forced to pull out of the fixture due to LA Galaxy's recent busy schedule.

"I am disappointed to miss the 2018 All-Star game against Juventus, one of my former clubs," said Ibrahimovic, who played for the Bianconeri from 2004-06. "I want to thank the fans for voting me to the team. My main focus is to score goals and help the LA Galaxy to the playoffs."

Meanwhile, Villa, who missed NYCFC's last six games due to a knee injury, has been deemed unfit to play for the game, with his omission announced on Monday.

The game against Juventus will be the first MLS All-Star Game he has missed in his four years playing in the league.

Under MLS rules, due to Ibrahimovic's absence from the All-Star Game, he will be forced to sit out of the Galaxy's next match – against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday in Denver – while Villa will miss NYCFC's home game against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Atlanta United coach Gerardo Martino, who is set to helm the MLS All-Stars squad, has selected players such as Carlos Vela and Sebastian Giovinco to face the Italian champions.

Juventus got their ICC campaign off with a strong start after defeating Bayern 2-0, though only managed to beat Benfica through penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 in extra-time.

It is the first season that the Italian side will embark on since veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon moved to PSG, though will be pushed on by the signing of Ronaldo who transferred to Serie A from Real Madrid in a €100m move earlier in the summer.

The Bianconeri have won their first two matches of the #CONTAJUS Tour, defeating Bayern 2-0 in Philadelphia thanks to a Andrea Favili brace.

Last time out, Juventus were the victors over Benfica in New Jersey, with the Portuguese side taking the lead through a sensational Alex Grimaldo free-kick in the second half, before an equally stunning goal by Luca Clemenza in the 84th minute sent the game to penalties. Mattia Perin saved the fourth effort from Benfica and Alex Sandro converted his PK to give the Bianconeri a 4-2 shootout win.
