Jason Momoa, aka Khal Drogo, aka Aquaman, is a physical specimen, and also happens to be (we presume) one of the raddest dudes in Hollywood.
It’s no secret that Momoa is an avid climber and skateboarder. Recently the good folks at So iLL climbing caught up with Momoa at his backyard climbing wall to share beta and chat about life. Momoa’s philosophy on climbing as it relates to fear, understanding how your own body works and moves, and the joy he has passing that all down to his kids is enlightening. New ‘Aquaman’ Poster Features Jason Momoa In DC Hero’s Classic Costume
A new fan poster from MessyPandas spotlight Jason Momoa sporting his classic Aquaman costume from James Wan’s upcoming standalone film.
Aquaman follows Arthur Curry and Amber Heard’s Mera on a quest for the true King’s Trident as he goes up against both his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) and Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is the next installment of the DC Films universe which is set to hit theaters this holiday season.
While an official look at the hero in his comic accurate costume has yet to be released to the public, the latest Aquaman poster from MessyPandas does a great job at capturing the costume that was revealed exclusively to Hall H last month at San Diego Comic-Con. Check it out below!
The film stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.
From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an aciton-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.
Aquaman is currently slated to hit theaters on December 21, 2018.
Aquaman has long been the butt of jokes where his only superpower is being able to talk to fish and a reference to that is exactly what Jason Momoa tried to have cut from ‘Justice League.’ In that film, Momoa’s take on the character was already being vastly different from any Arthur Curry which has graced comics to date, and he didn’t want comparisons made to the old tropes.
Momoa is making Aquaman his own by making him harder and more defined than in recent years. However, there is one thing about the superhero that he is trying to change from in the comics – or at least one thing he hopes to avoid at all costs even to the point of asking one particular line in ‘Justice League’ to be removed. Momoa does not want Aquaman to talk to fish:
“I’m like, don’t put this line in there because that’s all people are going to talk about… Do you want me to make him cool or not?”
While Batman did ask Aquaman in ‘Justice League’ if he could gather any further help, it wasn’t directly stated that Curry could talk to fish but he did say that he would check the tides.
Not as bad as the original meaning but the idea still is there. It should also be noted that in recent years this power was changed so that Aquaman can’t talk to fish, but telepathically control them.
We’ll have to see if James Wan addresses this ability at all in the solo ‘Aquaman’ movie coming later this year. If Momoa has his way, I suspect it won’t even be touched upon.

Like any superhero with a publication history that spans nearly eighty years, there have been a lot of different takes on Aquaman, from the Golden Age version (who counted an octopus as his sidekick) to his bearded, harpoon-handed nineties counterpart. And that’s just in the comics! Every new iteration brings something different to the table, whether it’s a characterization or the particular quirks of a given actor’s performance.
Aquaman’s latest incarnation is the one played on the silver screen by Jason Momoa. Upon his introduction in ‘Justice League‘, this version made waves – and not necessarily in a bad way – for just how much of a departure it was from Aquaman’s traditional portrayal. With much of the cinematic Aquaman’s success to date owing to Jason Momoa’s performance and undeniable charisma, it’s fair to ask just what he hopes to achieve with the character. Based on remarks he made when speaking with CinemaBlend, his aspirations could perhaps best be summed up in the words of John Lennon:
“I think I wanted to make [the guy you can have a beer with]. I think that’s why the y kind of hired me to play the role. I mean, he’s serious, but he’s just jaded. He’s just seen so much, and he doesn’t really trust anyone. I think it’s all about building the trust, and that’s the whole ‘Justice League’ thing – just being the team. You can’t sit down and have a beer with Superman, you know what I mean? You can’t. I wanted Aquaman definitely to be that guy – that he’s blue collar. I mean the whole thing about him, I wanted him blue collar: he’s raised with his dad, worked on bikes, worked on old cars with his father, and at a certain age he’s given this gift. He doesn’t know how to deal with it.”
The next installment in the DC Extended Universe, ‘Aquaman’ has been helmed by director James Wan and stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Patrick Wilson, and Nicole Kidman. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 21, 2018.
