Michael B. Jordan 'Shocked' He Won MTV Movie Award's Best Villain Over Roseanne Barr

Jordan won the award for his role as Erik Killmonger in “Black Panther,” beating out actors Josh Brolin, Adam Driver, Bill Skarsgård and Aubrey Plaza for the honor.

In his acceptance speech, Jordan opened by saying, “I’m shocked that I won this award for Best Villain. I thought Roseanne had this in the bag.”

Damn, Michael.

In case you missed it, Barr was embroiled in a major controversy last month when ABC canceled the “Roseanne” reboot after Barr made a racist comment about former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett.

The comment had Twitter (and us) virtually screaming:

Honestly, Michael B. Jordan is kind of lucky the MTV Movie & TV Awards can’t pick Best Villain nominees from real life. The 2018 category would be stacked. While accepting the show’s Best Villain award Monday night for his turn as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, the actor joked that Roseanne Barr should have been up there at the podium instead of him, seeing as how her ABC sitcom got abruptly canceled following her racist tweet. “I’m shocked that I won this award for Best Villain,” Jordan quipped. “I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag.” By the way the audience reacts, you would have thought Roseanne was up next presenting the Best Hero Award, which, of course, went to Chadwick Boseman for Black Panther.

While accepting his award for Best Villain at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, Michael B. Jordan took time to absolutely shade Roseanne Barr.

"I'm shocked that I won this award for Best Villan," he started by saying. "I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag."

He's referring to Roseanne Barr, whose Roseanne reboot was cancelled earlier this year after she made racist remarks on Twitter. In a now-deleted tweet, she wrote that former White House aide Valerie Jarrett was as if “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” She later apologized for the tweet, but ABC was quick to cancel her show anyway.

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values," ABC's network president Channing Dungey wrote in a statement. "And we have decided to cancel her show."

The show had been picked up for a second season before Roseanne's Twitter statement.

Michael, who won Best Villain for his role as Erik Killmonger in the all-black Black Panther, obviously thought her racism, directed at a black woman, was more deserving of his villain title.

Michael B. Jordan made sure to thank “Black Panther’s” powerful fan-base while accepting the award for best villain at the MTV Movie and TV Awards. But not before throwing shade at Roseanne Barr.

“I’m shocked that I won this award for best villain,” Jordan joked at the beginning of his speech. “I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag.”

Barr has received widespread criticism since she directed a racist tweet at former Obama administration aide Valerie Jarrett, who she called the offspring of “Planet of the Apes” and the Muslim Brotherhood. The tweet was met with outrage from Hollywood before ABC canceled “Roseanne” the same day. Stars praised ABC president Channing Dungey for making the decision in light of Barr’s comments, which Dungey called “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.”

In addition to the jab at Barr, Jordan also poked fun at fans later in his speech for asking his “Black Panther” co-star Chadwick Boseman to recite the film’s most popular tagline. The comment alludes to the “tired of Wakanda” memes circulating the internet, which picture an unenthused Boseman crossing his arms in Wakanda formation, suggesting that Boseman has been worn down by the gesture’s popularity.

“Chadwick Boseman personally asked me to ask y’all to stop asking him to say ‘Wakanda Forever’ out on the streets,” Jordan joked. “Y’all taking the forever thing a little too seriously.”
