India vs Ireland, 2nd T20I Preview: Ireland Look To Hit Back Against Experimental India

India vs Ireland, 2nd T20 International: When And Where To Watch, Live Coverage On TV, Live Streaming Online

India will be looking to sweep the series when they take on Ireland again.

Virat Kohli-led Team India outplayed Ireland in the first of two Twenty20 Internationals as the visitors scored 208/5 before restricting the hosts for 132/9 in Dublin on Wednesday. As the two teams meet for the second time at the same venue on Friday, Ireland would be hoping to hit back against their higher-ranked opponents. Although the margin of defeat in the opener was 76 runs, Ireland were quite impressive overall. After Indian openers Rohit Sharma (97) and Shikhar Dhawan (74) blazed away to put up a 160-run stand in 16 overs, the Irish bowlers did manage to claw back. Peter Chase, who recorded figures of 4 for 35, was the pick of the Ireland bowlers as he got rid of MS Dhoni, Sharma and skipper Kohli at crucial junctures.

Boyd Rankin and Paul Stirling also managed to keep things moderately tight too. As far as the batsmen were concerned, James Shannon, who is not very experienced in international cricket, did well against a strong bowling attack to score a 35-ball 60 with five fours and four sixes.

In the end, Ireland fell well short on all counts as Kuldeep Yadav, the Player of the Match, claimed 4 wickets 21 and got India a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

"They played the fast bowlers well, but struggled against the spinners, because they were not using their feet properly. We (he and Yuzvendra Chahal) varied the pace. Maybe they are not used to it," said Yadav.

"I did not expect it to spin like it did in the second innings," Yadav said after the game.

Now that India have started their much-anticipated tour of the United Kingdom on a bright note, Kohli said that the touring party will experiment with their middle-order batting. The 29-year-old believes that a flexible batting order will help keep India's opponents guessing while they are in Ireland and England.

India can't lose the series now, so the team management has decided to field the players like Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Siddarth Kaul and Umesh Yadav, who missed the first outing.

"We're going to give everyone a go in this series. The management and me as captain decided it. There're no mysteries and we're looking everyone to give game time," said Kohli at the post-match ceremony.

Another run-fest is on the cards at the warm and sunny Malahide on Friday and Ireland will have an excellent opportunity to notch up a win against a top team, while India would be hoping to make light work of their lower-ranked opposition.

Squads:

Ireland: Gary Wilson (capt/wk), Andy Balbirnie, Peter Chase, George Dockrell, Joshua Little, Andy McBrine, Kevin O'Brien, William Porterfield, Stuart Poynter, Boyd Rankin, James Shannon, Simi Singh, Paul Stirling, Stuart Thompson.

India: Virat Kohli (capt), Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Shikhar Dhawan, MS Dhoni (wk), Dinesh Karthik, Siddarth Kaul, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Washington Sundar, Umesh Yadav.

After blockbuster knocks from Indian openers, spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal spun their web around the Irish batsmen as India thumped the hosts by a mammoth 76-run margin in the first T20I in Dublin. The whole Ireland batting line-up collapsed as both Chahal and Kuldeep shared seven wickets amongst them. Kuldeep's 4 for 21 in the match is now his best ever performance in the format. Chahal too picked up 3 for 38 in his four overs. Chasing a huge total of 209, Ireland never looked comfortable against brilliant Indian bowling line-up. Jasprit Bumrah drew the first blood picking up Paul Sterling in the second over of the game. Post the power-play overs, Virat brought on spinners and they worked their magic to perfection. The spin duo crushed the entire Irish middle-order picking wickets at regular intervals. The host team collapsed like a pack of cards. Only James Shannon's 60 off 35 balls was the positive for the Irish team as no other batsman was able to go past the score of 15. In the end Ireland could only muster 132 for 9 in 20 overs falling short by 76 runs.

Earlier, riding on a 160-run stand between openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, India posted a target of 209 in 20 overs. Both Shikhar and Rohit pounced on the Irish bowlers from the word go. Both the openers clobbered the bowlers all-around the park dealing in boundaries and sixes. After power-play overs, India were 59 without loss. Continuing the fine form, Dhawan reached his fifty in 27 balls. Following Dhawan, Rohit Sharma too slammed his 15th T20I fifty. Sharma then continued whacking the ball all-around before getting out on 97. Although India lost Raina, Dhoni and Virat in the same over but reached 208 in their designated quota of 20 overs. Peter Chase was the most successful bowler for Ireland picking up 4 wickets for 35 runs. (Highlights: India vs Ireland)

19:45 IST: Fans are in the park. Tickets are sold out. Full house expected at the The Village, Malahide, Dublin.

19:30 IST: Hello and welcome to the live updates of the first T20I match between Ireland and India.

With a set opening combination in Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, and Kohli at No. 3, Lokesh Rahul seems a likely candidate for the No. 4 spot in the absence of Ajinkya Rahane. It will be interesting to see who among the trio of Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik and Manish Pandey will get a game as Dhoni and all-rounder Hardik Pandya fill up the No. 6 and 7 spots. Since Dinesh Karthik is going through a purple patch and Raina can come handy as a bowler, it is highly likely that Manish Pandey would sit out of the game. On the bowling front, Kohli will be tempted to field both leg-spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, giving them an early taste of conditions.

The pace department will most likely be led by the established duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah even as Umesh Yadav will be eager to be back in the shortest version for India for the first time since 2012. With Pandya as the third seaming option, it will also be interesting to see whether medium pacer Siddarth Kaul makes his India debut after an impressive stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL). For the hosts, skipper Gary Wilson, former captain William Porterfield and all-rounder Kevin O'Brien are the ones to have T20 experience against an Indian team. Meanwhile, 31-year-old Simranjit Singh will enjoy the spotlight of playing against his erstwhile nation.

DUBLIN: India set themselves up nicely for the sterner tests ahead with a dominant performance as they outclassed Ireland by a whopping 76 runs in the opening T20 International, on Wednesday.Dubbed as dress rehearsal for the marquee England series, the formidable Indian team outbatted the opposition scoring an imposing 208 for five, courtesy openers Rohit Sharma (97 off 61 balls) and Shikhar Dhawan (74 off 45 balls). In reply, Ireland could only manage 132/9 in 20 overs despite a breezy innings of 60 off 35 balls by opener James Shannon.Irish batsmen didn't have a clue how to play chinaman Kuldeep Yadav (4/21 in 4 overs). His partner in crime Yuzvendra Chahal was hit for four sixes but eventually ended with improved figures of 3 for 38 in his four over spell. As Kuldeep-Chahal ran through the top and middle-order, the rest of the batsmen were incapable of making a match of it. Such was their plight that save Shannon, none of the other home team batsman scored above 15.Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0/16 in 4 overs) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/19 in 4 overs) were as usual steady at the start and effective at the death. However a lot of credit should once again go to Rohit, who missed out on a well-deserved third T20 international century. The Indian vice-captain made amends for his poor IPL form with a breathtaking innings in company of an in-form Dhawan, who was also keen to send the bowlers in a leatherhunt. The opening pair put on 160 in 16 overs to set the foundation. However India lost three wickets in the final over, preventing them from scoring in excess of 225, which looked likely on a placid track. But the score was above par for an Ireland side, which rarely gets to play quality opposition.Young right-arm medium pacer Peter Chase finished with career-best figures of 4 for 35 with a memorable 20th over in which he accounted for Mahendra Singh Dhoni (11), Rohit and skipper Virat Kohli (0).Rohit went for a wild slog and was bowled thereby missing out his hundred by a whisker. His innings had eight fours and five sixes while Dhawan five boundaries and an equal number of maximums.India reached 50 in the fifth over. When the team total reached 61, Rohit-Dhawan completed 1000-run in the form of their partnership in T20 Internationals.India's 100 came up in the 11th over and neither batsman had offered a chance to the bowlers till then. Dhawan reached his seventh T20 half-century off 27 balls, while Rohit's 15th T20 half-century came off 39 balls.Such was their dominance on the Irish bowling that there were only a couple mishits until then.Ireland did have their opportunities. There were a couple of miscommunications while running between the wickets and Ireland even managed a direct hit but didn't get a favourable decision.Stuart Thompson had a nightmarish time on the field. First, he dropped Rohit at long off in the 15th over off George Dockrell (0-40) and then let go another one at long on in the next over off Kevin O'Brien (1-36). Finally he managed to latch onto a chance off Dhawan in that same over.
