Devil May Cry 5 Is Coming Next Year

Capcom unveiled the new Devil May Cry during Microsoft’s E3 press conference today and it looks rad as hell, y’all.

The game will be a “true” sequel to 2008's Devil May Cry 4. A short-haired Nero returns as protagonist and seems to have lost his arm, the source of much of his power, in a previous incident. Now, he’s searching through Red Grave City for answers, toting a new metal arm designed by snarky new sidekick Nico to “kick demon ass.”

There was plenty of demon ass-kicking to be had as Nero ripped through the streets with plenty of the series’ signature weapons alongside some new gadgets like a grappling hook fist. Game director Hideaki Itsuno is also back at the helm, after the series’ brief detour in 2013 with Ninja Theory’s DmC: Devil May Cry.

Closing out the trailer was one last reminder that this is set in the canon DMC universe—good ol’ Dante with a grizzled beard, riding a sick motorcycle. Also, was that Vergil ripping off Nero’s arm near the end? I’ve got little else to say other than that, I’m pretty psyched to tear through some demons with the bad-talking, demon-slaying boys again.

Devil May Cry 5 is currently set for a spring 2019 release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Capcom has finally announced Devil May Cry 5, the long awaited sequel to Devil May Cry 4, which was released over 10 years ago.

Devil May Cry 5 is a true follow-up to Devil May Cry 4, bringing back the original characters and storylines from the 2010 title (instead of the spin-off/reboot DmC: Devil May Cry that was released back in 2013). Longtime series director Hideaki Itsuno is returning to helm the new title as well. Both Nero and Dante — the demon hunting family who have featured as the protagonists of earlier games in the series — will be featured in Devil May Cry 5 as well.

Devil May Cry 5 is set to release for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in spring 2019.

Correction: Nero and Dante are apparently uncle and nephew, not twins, as this article originally stated. Virgil, who is Dante’s twin brother, does not appear in the trailer.

“Devil May Cry 5” is officially happening. Publisher and developer Capcom debuted the high-octane action game during Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference on Sunday. It will feature the fast-paced combat the series is known for, along with its over-the-top bonkers attitude.

In “DMC 5,” several years have passed since the legions of Hell invaded our world, but now a new demonic threat is rising. A “demon tree” takes root in Red Grave City and attracts the attention of Nero, an ally to “DMC” protagonist Dante. Missing his demonic arm, which is the source of his power, Nero and her partner Nico will tackle the hellish threat while searching for Dante.

There will be three playable characters in the game, each one offering a radically different play style. Capcom is apparently using full costumed models for all of its characters, so it can render them as realistically as possible.

“We think we’ve made something that feels better than any action game we’ve ever created,” Capcom said.

The “Devil May Cry” series has sold 16 million units over its lifespan, but it’s been 10 years since fans got to stomp demon faces in “Devil May Cry 4.” Developer Ninja Theory created a series reboot, “DmC: Devil May Cry,” in 2013 that was well-received by critics and reportedly sold well in Japan, yet failed to catch on with the Western gaming audience. Capcom was forced to reduce its sales target by 800,000. Afterwards, many wondered if the game’s poor reception had doomed the beloved franchise.

“Devil May Cry 5” is expected to launch in Spring 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox.

Edit: Earlier, we said the man in the trailer is Dante, but it’s Nero.

Share. It's coming next Spring. It's coming next Spring.

Capcom has officially revealed Devil May Cry 5, coming Spring 2019. The news came during Microsoft's E3 press conference.

This news doesn't come as a huge surprise, as Capcom registered the “Devil May Cry 5” domain name earlier this week. Also, earlier this year, Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma director Hideaki Itsuno sharing that he was on the brink of revealing his new game.

Exit Theatre Mode

This is the first game in the series since DmC back in 2013, which was developed by Ninja Theory — A studio Microsoft also announced they have acquired — although Capcom did recently release remasters of the first three games in the series in the Devil May Cry HD Collection for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
