MI vs RR: Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by seven wickets to stay in contention

The last time Mumbai Indians met Rajasthan Royals in this season of Indian Premier League, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side picked up a 3-wicket victory. Facing the same opposition at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the away side will hope to repeat the performance to rise further up in the table. The recent form of Jos Buttler, who has scored three consecutive fifties, will give RR confidence to go against the defending champions in the away surroundings. Krishnappa Gowtham has also contributed in the recent matches with both bat and the ball and two straight victories over KXIP and CSK will further boost their confidence. But MI are riding high on three consecutive wins and the batsmen have started to fire up the top. The challenge might not be an easy one.

D'Arcy goes early

He fails to make an impact once again! What a poor maiden season he is having in the IPL. And this time, it's not even a spinner as Bumrah bowls one at a perfect length to take the ball away from the batsman a touch and he nicks it behind to the keeper. MI get the early wicket and Rahane comes in strikes a lovely boundary to get underway.

That's that then! MI finish on 168/6 in 20 overs, mainly because of Hardik Pandya's extremely crucial cameo worth 36 runs off the 21 balls. MI were flying in the first half, and then had their wings clipped through the middle courtesy a fantastic bowling performance through the middle and Sanju Samson's fielding efforts. Do MI have enough?

Dhawal Kulkarni takes out Evin Lewis after the West Indian scored a fifty and looked like the guy to take MI forward. Lewis went hammer and tongs at a ball angled into him and ended up slicing it up in the air. Sanju Samson had to ran sideways to complete a sharp catch at sweeper cover. In the following over, Ishan Kishan was snuffed out by Ben Stokes. MI have gone down to 119 for 4 in 14.2 overs.

Breakthroughs!

Jofra Archer has stemmed the rot! He has removed Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma off two short balls. Both Suryakumar and Rohit were forced into the shot and undone by the pace. Neither could clear Jaydev Unadkat at fine leg. MI are down to 87/2 in 10.5 overs.

Build up

We have exactly ten games left in the league stage this year in the IPL and tonight's second clash is perhaps the most important of them all. Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians have been under the pump this season but their hopes of making it to the playoffs are still alive. Both these teams have 10 points from 11 games and the winner tonight will inflict a blow to the other. Going by the football analogy, it can be billed as the four-pointer.

MI appear to be doing it again. This is something they are renowned for. They have gone on to clinch titles from these situations so the belief in the camp is going to be there going into these latter stages. Form-wise they will be concerned about the lack of runs from Evin Lewis but Suryakumar Yadav has been brilliant at the top of the order. With Ishan Kishan also delivering last game, MI will be confident of putting up a good show.

RR, on the other hand, need at least two more guys to step up to the plate. They have relied too much on Jos Buttler in the last two games. The England wicketkeeper has scored four successive half-centuries but hasn't found support from the other end. They look to be too dependent on Jofra Archer in the bowling department as well even though Ish Sodhi's inclusion has helped.
