Royal Challengers Bangalore lived to fight another day in the Indian Premier League as the star duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers shared a scintillating 118-run stand off 64 balls to script a five-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils in Delhi on Sunday. Thanks to Kohli (70 off 40) and de Villiers (72 not out off 37), RCB raced to the 182-run target in 19 overs despite being reduced to two for 18 in the third over. Delhi had scored 181 for four, largely due to the efforts of Rishabh Pant (61 off 34) and debutant Abhishek Sharma (46 not out off 19). The much-needed win tonight was RCB's fourth in 11 games, keeping them in contention for a playoff spot. The loss for the hosts meant their campaign got worse as they registered their ninth defeat in 12 matches. The RCB chase was reminiscent of Sunrisers Hyderabad's effort here on Thursday when they hunted down a 188-run target with ease. The dew factor also played out in the second half of the game, just like the other night. The batting conditions were ideal and Kohli and de Villiers played shots of the highest calibre to enthral a full house. It was Delhi's home game but it seemed most of the fans had turned up to chant Kohli, Kohli'. Amongst Kohli's seven fours and three sixes, his front foot lofted drive over long-off stood out. As one would expect, de Villiers too came up with delightful shots, collecting four boundaries and six sixes in total. He ended the match with a straight hit over the fence off Trent Boult.
Delhi Daredevils rode some power-packed batting by Rishabh Pant and talented teenager Abhishek Sharma to post a challenging total of 181/4 in their Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Pant plundered 61 runs off 34 balls to help Delhi overcome some early hiccups. The 17-year-old Sharma gave the finishing touches to the innings, smashing his way to 46 runs off just 19 balls to give the hosts a very good chance to clinch the fourth win of a rather forgettable campaign. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the most successful among the RCB bowlers with figures of 2/28. Delhi suffered their first blow in the opening over itself when opener Prithvi Shaw was bowled while attempting a rather languid shot off Chahal's bowling. Chahal got rid of Jason Roy, the other Delhi opener, in his next over with a sharply incoming delivery that totally bamboozled the England batsman before going on to disturb the stumps. Pant and Shreyas Iyer came together to add 93 runs between over the next 62 deliveries in an attempt to bring the Delhi innings back on track. Pant played a major role in boosting the run rate. His power packed knock included five hits to the fence and four towering sixes. Off-spinner Moeen Ali finally brought the rampage to an end when Pant attempted another big hit, only to be caught by AB de Villiers near the boundary rope wide of long-on. Iyer amassed a patient 32 off 35 balls before he too departed in an attempt to pump up the run rate. The right-hander had attempted to smash pacer Mohammed Siraj over the onside, but his mistimed shot could only manage to find RCB skipper Virat Kohli. Delhi's teenaged all-rounder Abhishek Sharma then produced some fireworks lower down the order to help the hosts post a challenging total. The 17-year-old thumped three boundaries and four hits into the stands as Delhi finished their innings on a high note.
Royal Challengers Bangalore need a win desperately and Virat Kohli's team will have the perfect opportunity to do when they face bottom-placed and already eliminated Delhi Daredevils in an IPL 2018 encounter at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday night. A win for RCB will help them stay in playoff contention, however, Delhi will be solely playing for pride and could end up being the party-poopers for RCB. Despite Delhi's last place in IPL 2018, a win will not come easy for RCB. Delhi Daredevils have actually been quite impressive under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer but some rotten luck juxtaposed with poor fielding at crucial junctures have cost them, dear. (Play Fantasy Cricket & Win Lakhs everyday!)
RCB, who have just three wins from 10 games, have to win their remaining four games to have any chance of making the playoffs. Given their ordinary run so far in the IPL 2018, RCB don't evoke much hope. Skipper Kohli didn't mince any words following his team's loss to SunRisers Hyderabad in their previous match. Kohli slammed the team for not being good enough on the day and said that they didn't deserve to win the match. Kohli, the team's leading run-scorer with 396 runs at 49.50, was understandably upset after RCB were unable to chase down a modest 147. The batsmen had also let them down against Chennai Super Kings in the previous game, managing just 127. The team has always relied heavily on Kohli and AB de Villiers but it is high time the likes of Mandeep Singh, Quinton de Kock and Brendon McCullum deliver. (SCORECARD)

19:30 IST: Royal Challengers Bangalore win the toss and opt to bowl
All-rounder Washington Sundar has been disappointing so far, taking just four wickets in seven games at an average of 48 and economy rate of 9.60. With the bat too, he has done anything of note. RCB have done alright with the ball in the last few matches and they would be hoping to maintain that at the high-scoring Kotla. Pacers Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj have impressed in parts. Kohli looked relaxed ahead of the must-win game as he went out for dinner with teammates in his home city. Delhi are already down and out after losing to SunRisers, confirming their early exit from the competition. Even a special effort from Rishabh Pant was not enough for the hosts as Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Kane Williamson produced the goods for SRH. Delhi's bowling coach James Hopes and captain Shreyas Iyer insisted that there is a lot to play for. There is a possibility that Delhi management might give an opportunity to Nepal spinner Sandeep Lamichhane and South African pacer Junior Dala, both of whom are yet to get a game.
Squads:
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli (Captain), Quinton de Kock, Brendon McCullum, AB de Villiers, Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Chris Woakes, Washington Sundar, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Colin de Grandhomme, Moeen Ali, Pawan Negi, Mohammed Siraj, Corey Anderson, Parthiv Patel, Tim Southee.

Cricbuzz Staff • Last updated on Sun, 13 May, 2018, 12:11 AM
Much-needed win for RCB:
De Villiers finishes it off in style, with two sixes off Boult in the 19th over, to power RCB to a five-wicket win with an over to spare. He remains unbeaten on 72 off 37. A much-needed win for RCB, their first one away from home, as they stay alive in the competition. They are still placed seventh, with eight points and have three games remaining. Meanwhile, Delhi Daredevils became the first team to be eliminated from the play-offs race IPL 2018 - sixth successive season that they have failed to progress beyond the league stage.
RCB close in
Useful runs for Sarfraz but he departs while trying to play a scoop shot, with the fielder positioned in the deep just for that. RCB are 168 for 5 in the 18th over, needing 14 more.
150 up for RCB...
...in the 16th over. RCB need 29 more from 24 deliveries. Should be comfortable, unless DD can turn things around quickly. And the wicket of Mandeep Singh is a start. He's bowled by Boult off the first ball of the 17th over.
Kohli departs:
The partnership finally comes to an end. Kohli chases a delivery outside off that spun sharply from Mishra and ends up edging it to the 'keeper. He departs for a 40-ball 70, leaving RCB at 136 for 3 in the 14th over.

Fifty for AB, 100-run stand:
The milestone is brought up in style as Kohli whips a Harshal delivery over mid-wicket for his third six. De Villiers follows soon after with one over long-on to bring up a 28-ball fifty. The first time in this IPL that both these batsmen have registered fifties in the same game.
Deepu lists the stats:
Most 100+ stands in IPL: 9 Gayle - Kohli, 8 Kohli - AB de Villiers*, 6 Warner - Dhawan, 5 Gambhir - Uthappa
Lucky break:
Although it's tough to call that a chance. A bullet like drive from Kohli and Harshal Patel barely got his hands to the ball, and put it down. Meanwhile, de Villiers executes a scoop to perfection to get another boundary, which helps RCB to the 100-run mark in the 11th over.
Fifty for Kohli:
He brings it up with a four off Dala, getting there off 26 deliveries. This is his joint-fastest in the IPL, along with the 26-ball half-century against RR earlier in the season.
Partnership crosses 50:
De Villiers is also getting into his groove, goes over long-off for a six off Amit Mishra. The fifty partnership is up while Kohli has reached 733 runs - his most against an opposition, surpassing 732 against CSK. RCB are 76 for 2 after 8.
Fifty up for RCB:
A terrific six for Kohli over long-off off Boult in the sixth over is followed by a four for de Villiers. RCB end the PP at 58 for 2. A good start but can they sustain it?
Kohli gets into the act:
Three fours and a six off Junior Dala gets Kohli going as he provides some much-needed impetus to the innings. From mid-wicket, over mid-on and inside-out over cover, Kohli is unleashing his range of shot-making. De Villiers also gets into the act, getting a four off Harshal Patel, as does Kohli. RCB are 45 for 2 after five overs.
First wicket for Lamichhane:
It's Parthiv who has to depart, failing to pick a straight ball while attempting a sweep to be trapped in front. RCB in early trouble, reduced to 18 for 2 in the third over.
Early strike:
After a good opening over from Lamichhane, Boult picks up a wicket in the next. Going for an uppish drive, he miscues it and hands a simple catch to Shaw at cover.
Abhishek blitz lifts DD to 181:
A terrific knock from Abhishek, only 17 years old but the fearlessness of youth has come to the fore again. He finishes with an unbeaten 46 off 19, including three fours and four sixes - one four and a six off Siraj in the final over. A fine finish to DD's innings. RCB have their work cut out in the chase.
Debutant Sharma on fire:
Abhishek Sharma, the 17-year-old, has taken the attack back to RCB with a flurry of hits to and over the fence. He has raced away to 32 off 12, including 3 sixes and 2 fours, to take DD to 161 for 4 after 18.
Iyer departs:
Another key wicket for RCB. Iyer tries to flick Siraj over the on-side fence but finds Kohli to depart for 32 off 35. DD are 120 for 4.
Rishabh Pant scored yet another fifty © BCCI
Pant falls after fifty:
A six and a four off Chahal helps Pant bring up his seventh IPL fifty. However, he falls in the next over, to Moeen Ali. A brilliant catch from de Villiers, who makes up for his failure earlier. He slides and takes a diving catch inches from the ground. Pant departs for a 34-ball 61, putting the onus on Iyer now to lead the team towards a good total. DD are 109 for 3 after 13 overs.
Fifty-run stand:
Another economical over from Moeen, who gives away only four in his second over. Meanwhile, Pant and Iyer bring up the half-century stand with the latter also getting a lucky break as AB de Villiers failed to judge a catch. A couple of fours for Iyer in that Colin de Grandhomme over too as DD move to 78 for 2 after 10.
Pant powers DD forward:
An economical over from Moeen Ali to begin his spell, as he concedes only four. However, Mohammad Siraj has no such luck as Pant continues to clear the fence with ease - this time two sixes off the eighth over. DD move to 62 for 2.
Deepu stats:
Most runs in a season for DD: 552 R PANT (2018) *, 534 G Gambhir (2008), 495 V Sehwag (2012), 465 AB de Villiers (2009), 445 Q de Kock (2016).
Positive Pant:
The left-hander has continued from where he left off in the previous match. With regular boundaries, he has helped DD recover from the early wickets and has also taken back the orange cap that had gone to KL Rahul in the previous game. DD move to 44 for 2 after 6.
Chahal strikes hurt DD:
A straight ball from Chahal and the Under-19 WC winning captain - Prithvi Shaw - didn't pick it and is bowled for 2 in the opening over. Jason Roy starts in a positive fashion, scoring a six and a four off Umesh Yadav. However, he fails to pick a googly from Chahal and is bowled for 12. A fine start from RCB in what is a must-win clash for them.
Toss and teams:
Virat Kohli wins the toss and decides to bowl at home home ground - Feroz Shah Kotla. One change for RCB - Sarfaraz Khan comes in for Manan Vohra. Meanwhile, three debutants for DD - Sandeep Lamichhane, Junior Dala and Abhishek Sharma. Lamichhane becomes the second youngest overseas player to make his debut. A historic moment for Nepal cricket.

Build up
Two teams, who now stand favourites to finish at the bottom of the table, take on each other in our second game of the double header. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils have endured tough campaigns. While DD's chances of making it to the playoffs are as good as over, RCB's hopes are hanging by a thread and if they can win tonight, they will continue to stretch themselves to see if the other results go their way. Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals winning their respective games have hurt RCB furthermore recently but a win tonight can boost their morale.
More than anything, they will hope their skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers can fire in unison tonight. They have done it multiple times over the years and now, RCB need them more than ever. One positive aspect is that the conditions are good for batting in Delhi. Rishabh Pant blazed his way to a majestic ton recently and in reply, Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson made a mockery of the run chase.
The stage is set once again for the batters to rule the roost but don't count the likes of Amit Mishra, Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal out yet. Welcome to the live blog for the contest between DD and RCB. Hopefully, more entertainment awaits after what we witnessed earlier today in Indore.
