Bank Holiday opening hours for Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury's and more


ANOTHER bank holiday is here, with many Brits being treated to a day away from work and a whole heap of spring sunshine.

But if you are planning on getting friends or family over for some food and drink you might want to check on your local Asda's opening times. Here is the important info...

When is Asda open over the May bank holiday?

Times will vary for bank holiday Monday today, with some stores changing from their usual hours.

Make sure you check out your local shop before heading over.

Usual Monday opening hours are between 8am - 11pm, but other stores are open 24 hours.

How can I find the opening hours for my local Asda store?

Closing times can vary from store to store, so it's always important to check your local branch.

You can do this using the store finder on their website.

Just as many of us are recovering from the last one, the second Bank Holiday of the month will soon be here.

Taking place this weekend, the majority of workers benefit from a three-day weekend, meaning extra time to hit the shops.

However, typically during Bank Holiday weekends stores, including supermarkets can changes its opening hours, so to save you any confusions we've rounded-up them all important times you need to know.

Alongside the big four supermarket chain, Co-op, Aldi and Lidl tend to be hugely popular.

Asda opening times

Asda made headlines recently following the announcement of its plans to merge with rival supermarket Sainsbury's.

The retailer's opening times will remain fairly normal with the majority of its stores opening at 8am, however closing times may change.

Morrisons opening times

Morrisons is rolling out plenty of bank holiday offer this weekend, so we suspect many of you will be heading to your nearest store.

The supermarket has a range of offers available ahead of the Bank Holiday, meaning there are plenty of chances for its customers to save money.

Sainsbury's opening times

Sainsbury's fans will no doubt be relived after the news their local stores will remain during the merger with Asda which made headlines earlier this month.

The retailer has plenty of branches in Liverpool including its Rice Lane store.

Many stores will not be affected by the bank holiday and will open at the usual times, it is however the closing times, which like Asda, may change.

Tesco opening times

Supermarket giant Tesco is currently a huge clothing sale for its F&F brand, which includes pieces for both women, men and children.

A bank holiday is an ideal time to shop the sales, so for anyone planning a trip to their nearest Tesco, you'll probably be in need of these opening hours.

Aldi opening times

Budget supermarket Aldi will no doubt be full of its Special Buys this bank holiday weekend.

This week's limited edition products are all about the garden, so think gorgeous outdoor furniture pieces even including a bouncy castle, which is ideal for anyone thinking of hosting a party this weekend.

Lidl opening times

Lidl is another budget supermarket which along with Aldi has soared to popularity in the last few years.

Similar to Aldi, the retailer releasing limited collections twice a week.

Having recently released a whole range of new gin, including an orange flavoured one and also plans to release a huge clothing collections for much cheaper than other high-street stores.

Co-op

Co-op advise on its website that it considers bank holidays as a special time and due to this some stores may be closed during these periods.

The retailer advisers customers to check its website, to find what is happening with their local store.

We're heading towards another sunny Bank Holiday weekend. The barbecues will be fired up and the booze might well be flowing but at some point you will realise you've forgotten something - it's always the way!

Many shops operate with reduced hours on a Bank Holiday meaning it can be difficult to know where to go when you need to nip out to get that extra bottle of wine or a missing ingredient.

Thankfully, convenience stores usually save the day when the supermarkets have to shut but it’s always worth knowing where you can nip to if you realise you’re without something you need.

All the shops will be open as usual on Saturday and Sunday but many will be operating with reduced hours on Monday (May 28).

Below, we have put together a handy guide to which shops are open and when.

Tesco Bank Holiday opening times

The 24-hour Tesco Extra in St Stephen's will be operating at reduced hours on Bank Holiday Monday.

It will be open between 9am and 6pm, as will the Hall Road superstore.

The smaller Tesco Express and Metro shops tend to operate at their usual opening times, which is between 7am and 11pm.

Asda opening times

Asda stores in our area will also be operating at reduced times.

The superstores in Hessle Road, Mount Pleasant and Beverley Road will all open at 7am on Bank Holiday Monday and close at 8pm.

The store at Kingswood will open an hour later but will still close at 8pm.

Sainsbury's opening times

Sainsbury’s at Hessle will also have a reduced opening time.

The superstore will be open between 9am and 7pm for the Bank Holiday.

Sainsbury’s Local branches are understood to be opening for their usual hours but you should double-check on their store checker to be sure.

Aldi opening times

The supermarket has confirmed that each of its UK stores will open between 8am and 8pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

Morrisons opening times

Morrisons will operate reduced times for the Bank Holiday.

The Springfield Way store in Hessle will be open between 8am and 7pm, as will the branches on Holderness Road and in Beverley and Brough.

Lidl opening times

Unlike others, Lidl won’t be making changes to opening times.

Each of its UK stores, including the ones in our patch, will be open between 8am and 8pm.

Waitrose opening times

The Willerby supermarket will open at the same time as normal but will close early on Bank Holiday Monday.

The supermarket will be open between 8am to 6pm.
