Manchester United vs West Brom LIVE highlights and reaction as West Brom beat Man Utd

Manchester United handed the Premier League title to Manchester City after suffering a surprise 1-0 defeat at home by bottom club West Brom. A 73rd minute header from Jay Rodriguez gave Albion, who appear doomed to relegation, their first away win in 16 outings. United midfielder Nemanja Matic had headed a corner across his own goal area and Rodriguez reacted quickly to nod home the winner. Jose Mourinho's side had dominated possession but created few clear chances and their loss leaves City 16 points clear with just five games remaining.

MANCHESTER CITY ARE THE 2017/2018 PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 18:45: I suppose the final image should go to Manchester City. It’s been a pretty familiar sight to watch Pep Guardiola’s side celebrating this season. Having experienced his first-ever trophyless season as a head coach last campaign, Guardiola has landed the Premier League title in style. Congratulations, Manchester City. JOSE’ PARTING SHOT 18:30: Jose Mourinho has been talking about United’s chances of challenging City for the title next season. And you won’t be surprised to hear that he’s backed himself. "I trust in my work. Eight titles. Three Premier League. Last not 20 years ago, it was three. I know how to win. I believe in myself. You don't win titles with inconsistency. You need consistency at every level. The mental level, day by day,” he said.

JOSE SPEAKS Jose Mourinho on defeat to West Brom: "We were masters in complication, everything was complicated. "We didn't want or played simple, everything was slow, one more flick, trick, turn. There was no fluidity. We did not deserve to lose, we gave them opportunity to win the match.” On last week’s 3-2 victory over Manchester City: “I won eight titles and I am not on the moon because I won against Manchester City. "I saw lots of people in the moon because we won against City. You could see the difference in the attitude to players compared to last week. We deserve top be punished, but the defeat was too heavy." On City's title win: "I have won titles, I would not be happy if someone say won title if someone lose a match. City won the title because they won more points than everyone else, not tell City they won title because United did not win, it is not fair on them." BLOCKBUSTER 18:18: This is a cracking interview from Jose Mourinho. He’s talking about everything from the missed penalty that should have been awarded to how Manchester City are deserved champions. ‘WE DIDN’T DESERVE TO LOSE’ 18:15: It’s quite a mixed reaction from Jose Mourinho. He said that Manchester United were deservedly punished by West Brom, and that they complicated everything for themselves. Full quotes coming now.

"This is a game you always look forward to at Old Trafford, it is the biggest club in the world, to score here is amazing and the buzz I feel for how hard we've worked is amazing to me." CAPTAIN KOMPANY 18:10: Vincent Kompany has taken to Twitter to share his joy at landing a third Premier League title. He wrote: “Champions!!!!!! What a great feeling!! 240… 18:03: Manchester City's 240 day total at the top of the league in 2017-18 is just one day fewer than Manchester United have spent at the top of the Premier League (in season) since Sergio Aguero's goal won the title in May 2012 (241). BANTER EVERYWHERE… 18:00: West Brom have triggered a few angry Manchester United supporters with their tweet. Their post which includes a picture of Jay Rodriguez celebrating simply says: “You’re welcome, Manchester City.”

TWITTER ROUND-UP Matthew: And we all thought it would be funny if City won the title by beating United at Old Trafford. But this is actually hilarious. Richard: Terrible, woeful, lazy, lacklustre. I cannot even begin to describe how bad it was to watch my team surrender with such complacency today. Alan: Congratulations to Manchester City and Pep Guardiola. Deserved Champions of the Premier League. A joy to watch. 17:55: Pep Guardiola has won the top-flight league title in seven of his nine seasons as a manager, with the only exceptions being 2011-12 at Barcelona and 2016-17 at Manchester City. MANCHESTER UNITED 0-1 WEST BROM FT: Somewhere on a golf course in Manchester, Pep Guardiola is celebrating. Manchester City have been crowned Premier League champions 2018 after West Brom beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. 93: That might be last chance saloon. Smalling appoints himself as United’s new striker and creeps in at the back post to head straight at Foster.

90: We’ve just ticked over into stoppage time. Four added minutes. Martial drifts a cross into Lukaku, who is inches away from connecting. 88: Still nothing coming from United. They don’t look interested in finding an equaliser as the stadium starts to empty. Quite a low mood knowing you’ve handed the title to your rivals on a plate. 86: Here comes Daniel Sturridge. He’s on for Salomon Rondon. I wonder if he’ll last until full time?

REUTERS Manchester United vs West Brom: Premier League latest score, goals and updates

84: I tell you what folks, Manchester United don’t look like scoring here. They’ve produced nothing since West Brom went ahead. 81: Some much-needed respite for the Baggies defence as Jay Rodriguez wins a corner. Not too many coming up for this. Claimed. 78: Nyom receives a booking for a wild challenge on Anthony Martial. United have 12 minutes to stop their fierce rivals from winning the title. 21 players camped in the West Brom half. 75: That’s forced Jose Mourinho into a third and final change with Marcus Rashford replacing Ashley Young. Phillips makes way for Krychowiak in West Brom's first change.

MANCHESTER UNITED 0-1 WEST BROM - RODRIGUEZ 73: The Baggies are ahead! Nobody gave them a chance but bottom-placed West Brom are leading Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford. No surprises that it comes from a set-piece. Jay Rodriguez latches onto Matic's miscue under a corner to hammer home from inside the six-yard box. Manchester City could be crowned champions today. 72: Good play from Rodriguez. He intercepts a Martial pass and frees Phillips, who wins a corner. Brunt to deliver… 71: Whisker away! Jesse Lingard lines one up and smashes it inches wide of the post. United gradually increasing the tempo now. 69: Ben Foster with an amazing save to deny Romelu Lukaku. Matic bends a cross into the box and the Belgian connects well. It’s heading for the far corner until the Baggies stopper produces a fine fingertip save.

66: “Attack, attack, attack,” is the cry from the Old Trafford faithful. Alexis Sanchez looks to go it alone and finds himself crowded out. 63: It’s raining. That’s just about the most exciting thing that’s happened over the last ten minutes. This really is a slog to watch. Jesse Lingard has perked things up a touch, but Ben Foster still hasn’t been tested. 60: Here he comes. Paul Pogba is hauled off just before the 60-minute mark having made little to no impression on the match. Anthony Martial on. 57: I spy Anthony Martial preparing to come on. United could do with an injection of pace and creativity. 54: Juan Mata’s attempt from the edge of the box flashes wide. Brunt then shanks a free-kick into the wall. 51: This is much better from United. Lukaku goes wide and drives inside the penalty area in signature fashion before forcing Foster into a low save.

48: Lingard very nearly scores with his first touch. Sanchez plays a clever ball around the corner and the substitutes shot is blocked by Dawson. 45: We’re back underway folks. Jesse Lingard, who is conveniently in my fantasy football team, replaces Ander Herrera. TWITTER ROUND-UP Jack: That first half was awful. Jose needs to let Martial come on and prove himself. The fans love Martial he plays great football but he’s been overlooked by Jose for 2 years and when he plays he’s fantastic if I was him I’d be unhappy. Nikki: Please take off Sanchez. he is ruining the balance of United and gives the ball away too much. Put on Rashford or Martial. Jeff: You want Old Trafford crowds to cheer? Then stop giving them static, defensive - and boring - football to watch.

MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM HT: Sorry for leaving so abruptly before folks, but that really was a dismal 45 minutes from Manchester United. No tempo, urgency or creativity from Jose Mourinho’s side. You would think they’d like to delay Manchester City’s coronation having beaten them last week! HT: Terrible. I’m off to heat up my stir-fry. 44: Give Darren Moore the job now. The Baggies are giving a really good account of themselves today. 41: Some nice play from Phillips wins West Brom a corner. The big boys stroll up from defence and Dawson really should score. He’s totally unmarked at the back post and decides to lay it across goal instead of shoot. 38: Should be 1-0. Mata diverts Pogba’s pass to Lukaku, who only has Foster to beat. The Belgian’s first touch is abysmal and the goalkeeper collects.

35: I think the ghost of Louis van Gaal must be inside Old Trafford today. Frightfully dull play from the hosts. Atmosphere has disappeared too. 32: We’ve just ticked over the half-hour mark and any prospect of West Brom being blown away looks slim. The visitors have hunkered down at the back and it’s making it very difficult for United to play their way through. 29: Frustration setting in for the Old Trafford faithful. Paul Pogba is booked for trying to reenact Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ from Alexis Sanchez’s cross. Silly really. 26: Chance! McClean’s delivery is fantastic. He collects it on the left and puts it on Rondon’s head but De Gea saves fairly easily. 23: Terrific double save from Foster. The goalkeeper stays big to parry away Lukaku’s initial effort, and gets up in time to block Sanchez’s shot with his legs.

20: Penalty appeal! Looked stonewall on first look. Dawson collides with Herrera and the midfielder hits the deck. Should have been a spot-kick. In fairness to referee Paul Tierney, Nyom was blocking his view. 18: I guess the argument could be made that West Brom are playing with absolute freedom given their fate is virtually sealed. At the same time, United haven’t been at their best. 15: West Brom have ANOTHER chance with United looking incredibly complacent. McClean delivers a fizzed cross over to Rondon, who outjumps Smalling before nodding over. 12: West Brom won’t have a better chance today. Mark my words. Rondon holds the ball up well and lays it off to the onrushing Livermore, who cuts onto his left peg before facing a good save from David de Gea. It should be 1-0 to the Baggies.

9: Paul Pogba launches one from ranger but he’s not really connected with it and Ben Foster collects. The Baggies stopper spent five years at Old Trafford. Just the 20 appearances though… 6: You almost feel sorry for West Brom here. United are just toying with the visitors and have pinned them back in their own half since the first kick. 3: West Brom caretaker manager Darren Moore and Jose Mourinho embraced before kick-off. The Baggies boss made Jose look like a 10-year-old boy. Huge! Alexis Sanchez looks to find Juan Mata with an early crossfield pass but it’s gone out of play. 1: And we’re off! Pep Guardiola might be busy playing golf with his son, but we’re in position to bring you everything from Old Trafford. Who knows, maybe he's reading this blog… Hello Pep!

LAST-CHANCE SALOON 15:55: Caretaker West Brom boss Darren Moore came within 15 minutes of victory in last Saturday's must-win clash with Swansea, although a 1-1 draw did at least end a run of nine successive defeats in all competitions. However, another reverse at Manchester United today, coupled with victories for Crystal Palace and Huddersfield, would surely see them drop into the Championship. TEAM NEWS 15:52: Jose Mourinho has made two changes to the Manchester United side that won the derby in such stunning fashion, with Juan Mata and Victor Lindelof coming in to face West Brom. Jesse Lingard dropped to the bench and Eric Bailly was conspicuous by his absence from the Red Devils' bench. Caretaker Baggies boss Darren Moore named an unchanged side, with on-loan Daniel Sturridge among the substitutes after an injury sustained on February 12.

Manchester United have handed the Premier League title to Manchester City as they lost against bottom of the Premier League West Bromwich Albion.

Jose Mourinho's side put in an uninspiring performance with just one shot on target from Romelu Lukaku in the second half and the United boss explained they deserved to be punished after 'complicating' the game.

"The defeat I think is too heavy. Not to win this match I think we deserve this punishment," Mourinho told Sky. "We were masters in complication everything was complicated. Players they didn’t want or couldn’t play simple. everything was slow, one more touch, one more turn, one more flick and no continuity and no fluidity in our football."

United now have to focus on an away trip to Bournemouth on Wednesday but Spurs in the FA Cup.
