Kanye West Drops New Song 'Lift Yourself' With Some Unexpected Lyrics

About “Lift Yourself”

On April 27, 2018, Kanye announced on Twitter that he would be releasing a new song titled “Lift Yourself.” According to Ye, the song would bring closure to Hot 97 radio presenter, Ebro Darden.

This was three days after Ebro went on air to discuss the conversation he had with West concerning his support for Donald Trump and his alleged Opioid addiction. Kanye then made a bizarre phone call to Ebro’s radio show, declaring that he loves him.

Later the same day, Kanye posted another tweet, linking to his website where he had uploaded the song.

Hours after the release of “Lift Yourself,” Power 106 premiered the T.I.-featuring “Ye Vs. The People.” This track serves as a better “explanation” to Ebro, and is supposedly the lead single to Kanye’s upcoming album.

Kanye West unveiled his promised song “Lift Yourself” on Friday night (April 27) -- and things take an interesting turn at the end.

The hip-hop mogul tweeted out a link to his website, and the link leads to the mp3 file that starts playing once the page loads. "Lift Yourself" starts out with a classic Kanye soul sound, with a female vocalist singing: "Hard to see the hang-ups we have today/ We need to strive for more liberty." The hook -- "Lift yourself up on your feet/ Let's get it on" -- then takes a turn into an almost trap-sounding beat.

West then speaks over the track: "What they don't really realize, though, this next verse, this next verse, though, these bars." And the eyebrows raise as he starts to rap a nonsensical combination of "Whoopdedy-scoop, whoopdedy-whoop-scoop-poop/ Poop/ Poop," followed by an abrupt end.

Earlier in the day, the rapper tweeted about this fire verse, which he proclaimed would "bring Ebro the closure he's been seeking." Ebro Darden of Hot 97 questioned Ye's thought process on Wednesday after the rapper sent out a slew of pro-Trump controversial tweets.

Prior to releasing “Lift Yourself,” West tweeted, “I'm going to drop a song with a verse that will bring Ebro the closure he's been seeking,” referring to a recent conversation the Hot 97 host discussed on air. He then added, “The bars 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.” Find his tweet below. As it turns out, there aren’t any intelligible bars to speak of. He does rap, “poopty scoopty.” The track samples R&B group Amnesty’s 1973 song “Liberty.”

Following the release of “Lift Yourself,” he dropped a new song called “Ye vs. the People” that features T.I.

Kanye West recently announced that he’ll release new songs with ASAP Rocky, as well as Travis Scott and Lil Uzi Vert. He’s also said that he’s releasing a seven-track solo album on June 1, followed by a collaborative record with Kid Cudi on June 8.
