IPL 2018, Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Highlights: As It Happened

23:54(IST)

Stats Attack: Teams batting first have won the last 4 IPL matches.

This is MI’s first victory of IPL 2018: Every team now has tasted victory at least once

MI have won their 5th consecutive match against RCB in the IPL.

The top 2 individual scores this season came in this match. Combined, they scored 186 runs. Kohli’s boundaries: 11 , Rest of RCB: 8

This is MI’s 3rd biggest victory over RCB in the IPL:

When chasing a big total, you need an excellent beginning. Bangalore though lost their two premium batsmen, Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers inside the Powerplay. From there onward, it was a struggle for them. Although skipper Virat Kohli kept scoring from one end, he failed to receive any support from the other end. Mayank Markande and Krunal Pandya were neat with their spells, not allowing any easy runs and the latter bagged a 3-wicket haul. Altogether, a great team effort by Mumbai and they have opened their account with a comprehensive win, their fifth in a row against Bangalore.

IPL 2018 Score MI vs RCB Cricket Score: Rohit Sharma is looking for his first win of the season.

IPL 2018 Score MI vs RCB Cricket Score: Winless Mumbai Indians will aim to register their maiden win when they face Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. Currently, at the bottom of the points table, the Rohit Sharma-led side lost all the three matches played. First, against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the season opener and then to Sunrisers Hyderabad and to Delhi Daredevils. In the upcoming match, they would like to turn the tables around with a good performance. The batting and the bowling departments have failed to perform as a unit so far and in order to change their fortunes, Mumbai will have to look into this before its too late.

Bangalore on the other hand, have had a mixed start to the tournament, losing the opener to KKR but making a comeback against Kings XI Punjab at Chinnaswamy Stadium and then losing a high-scoring game to Rajasthan Royals. To win their match against MI, RCB need to set their bowling combination right. Apart from Yuzvendra Chahal, no other bowler has yet shown the potential to lead the bowling attack. Umesh Yadav sure did show a moment of spark against KXIP but could not carry the same performance against RR.

Here are Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Cricket Score:

11:36 pm: Royal Challengers Bangalore require another 80 runs with 4 wickets and 18 balls remaining.

11:28 pm: Parthiv, de Kock, Kohli, AB, Mandeep, CDG, Sundar, Negi, Woakes, Chahal, Yadav. It really can’t be that hard, can it?

READ| Kohli has just gone past Suresh Raina as the IPL’s highest run-scorer

11:10 pm: Bumrah to Kohli, 1 run, short outside off, and he pulls this along the ground. Falls just short of midwicket and the throw hits Kishan’s eyes on the bounce! This looks bad. He’s on the ground, whimpering in pain. Hardik Pandya’s hands on his head, he was the man who threw the ball.

10:43 pm: Royal Challengers Bangalore require another 155 runs with 8 wickets and 13.0 overs remaining.

10:35 pm: The RCB strategy of playing your best batsmen at the top is flawed… you dont need ABD and Virat out in the middle to score at a decent pace in the power play, Mandeep or Sundar can do that…. this just increases the risk of their best batsmen getting out playing a risky shot in the powerplay.

10:31 pm: McClenaghan to de Kock, OUT, Crashes into off stump! McClenaghan removes de Kock for the third time in five games! Good length outside off, but always angling into de Kock. He came charging down the wicket to slap it past cover, but the ball goes under his bat and straight into the top of off stump. McClenaghan’s pumped!

10:25 pm: Come on RCB… following match after match, year after year, only to be disappointed. Give me a cracking 70+ run powerplay to set the stage for overhauling this total today!” — Mustafizur won’t make it easy.

10:21 pm: RCB needs a pitch hitter like Sunil Narine – which will blast during 1st powerplay and put RCB ahead.” — yep, could’ve used Washington Sundar today.

10:00 pm: Two wickets off the first two balls and then a proper hammering yet again for RCB. That means they will have a 200 plus chase for a second-time running. If there’s some consolation, they only have to look back at the previous game here, where Delhi Daredevils chased down a similar total to win. Ewin Lewis took charge with a sparkling half-century to set the tone, Rohit’s knock proved to be the icing. For the first time this season, he wasn’t slogging the ball and allowed his timing to take over. What followed was a stunning exhibition of clean hitting. This should be an action-packed chase and Sreshth Shah will be back shortly for that.

9:43 pm: Presume Woakes will bowl one. Who will bowl the other? Umesh? Kohli had a word with bowling coach Nehra at the boundary. Now comes in to have a chat with Woakes. Presumably about the fields for Pollard and Rohit. Let’s see. Can Rohit get to his 100?

9:26 pm: MI have the worst death overs run rate in first inns this season and RCB have the worst death overs economy. Some turnaround so far. Can they sustain it?

9:15 pm: Pollard has been dismissed by Chahal thrice in 30 balls.

9:07 pm: Mohammed Siraj to KH Pandya, 1 run.

8:45 pm: Chahal to Sharma, 1 run, tossed up full on middle and leg. Rohit comes down the wicket and drives past the non-striker. Almost a caught-and-bowled chance for Chahal first up

8:35 pm: Siraj has conceded at least 45 in each of the three T20Is he’s played for India. He’s conceded 16 already off his first here.

8:31 pm: Evin Lewis has set Wankhede Stadium with his blistering batting.

8:23 pm: I have never seen MI struggle this much at any of the previous IPL seasons. Some of the best players have been thrown away. New players have joined. But still fighting hard to find their rhythm. Senior players are not among runs. Will this season be a tragedy for MI? — Can’t write them off. They’ve had a history of bouncing back. The game’s just begun.

8:18 pm: One major problem for RCB thus far has been lack of support from the other end when Umesh or Sundar have bowled well. Here again, same error.” Seems that way. Early days.

8:14 pm: Dream start for Virat Kohli?

8:09 pm: Umesh is the second bowler to take wickets off first two balls of an IPL innings. First was Praveen Kumar v CSK in 2011; he got Srikkanth Anirudha and Suresh Raina then.

8:07 pm: Umesh Yadav you beauty! The sound of Timber much more satisfying than sixes in T2).

RCB opt to bowl. “It seems damp, there’s cloud cover, this is a tough ground to defend, so we want to chase,” says Kohli. Rohit feels dew could be a factor in the second half and one they need to counter.

So, it is a wrap but scroll around to figure out what happened in this 14th encounter of IPL 2018. MI are finally off the mark. Their fans will finally sleep well tonight whereas RCB fans will only have despair to deal with.

Rohit Sharma: "It wasn't the ideal start for us. I thought Umesh bowled in the right areas. The wicket was still soft when I went in. So it was important to spend some time and it was better to bat with the dew coming in. It was a perfect game for us."

Both the skippers batted superbly tonight!!! ????????

Sadly , none could hit a century but 94 by HITMAN n 92 by King KOHLI were just amazing!! ????????

Class Acts!! ????????#MIvRCB #IPL2018 — Prathit Mahapatra (@i_Prathit) April 17, 2018

Mayank Markande: I am really glad to get the purple cap again. Really feels nice to compete with world class bowlers like Narine and Woakes.

Mayank has the purple cap now. This win can only make it sweeter for him. And finally after three last over finishes, MI get over the line with RCB coming a distant second.

Virat Kohli - The lone warrior stands tall yet again. You gotta feel bad for this man. There has been no method to the way the rest of the RCB batters batted today at the Wankhede. Huge disappointment #MIvRCB — Hemang Badani (@hemangkbadani) April 17, 2018

Virat Kohli: It was a good game of cricket as far as Mumbai were concerned. I don't feel like wearing this (orange cap) right now because it really doesn't matter. We just threw it away, and need to reflect on our dismissals.

MI win by 46 runs!! Kohli remains stranded at one end. He finishes with 92 not out. Kohli though now has the ownership of the orange cap. This will be a bitter pill to swallow especially after Mumbai were 0 for 2 in 0.2 overs.

Siraj tonks one over deep mid-wicket. RCB fans have something to cheer about.

Kohli moves to 77 with a lofted six over widish long-on. 11 balls to go in this innings. Can Kohli score a ton here? Remember, NRR will come into play later in the tourney.

And adds one more to his kitty as the short ball gets the wicket of Umesh Yadav. RCB: 137 for 8 in 18 overs.

Bumrah picks up Woakes off a slower ball. Caught at short third man. 50th wicket for Bumrah in IPL as well.

A few lusty blows mitigate the damage but not by much. RCB need 80 runs off the last three overs.

Virat Kohli brings up his 50 off 41 balls. RCB need 106 off 30 balls. This has been a massively one-sided contest. The dismissal of ABD killed the chase off pretty quickly.

Sarfaraz Khan is out stumped. The blue-eyed boy of IPL XI - Mayank Markande - gets him. His spell: 4-0-25-1.

Ishan Kishan walked off after being hit close to his right eye © BCCI

Looks serious injury to Ishan Kishan. Hope he is fine. And the #IPL2018 starts for Aditya Tare #MIvRCB — Bhaskar Ganekar (@BhaskarGanekar) April 17, 2018

Ishan Kishan has walked off. He has been bruised badly besides his right eye. That looked bad..real bad..hope the young man is fine..Aditya Tare has walked in with the gloves as the substitute keeper.

3-fer for Krunal. Sundar holes out at long-off. This chase is spiralling downwards for them.

Krunal on a hat-trick!! Kohli clips the hat-trick ball to long-on.

Corey Anderson kneels down to heave it but punishes himself as he is caught at deep mid-wicket. Gift of a wicket for MI, who tighten their tentacles around RCB in search of their first win.

A full and wide ball stumps Mandeep out. In the previous over, Markande had slipped a wide one but the keeper could not gather it. But this quick parabola was gobbled up and then allowed his quick hands to whip the bails off.

Virat Kohli becomes the leading run-getter in IPL history..

Virat Kohli now has 4559 runs, the highest in IPL, overtakes Suresh Raina, who has 4558 runs. Mayank Markande is becoming a tough customer to deal with. His spell so far: 2-0-8-0.

RCB: 65 for 2 after 8 overs. The last 4 overs has seen only 25 being scored.

Rohit almost scores a run-out. Mandeep is saved by the breadth of a hair. A direct hit at the bowler's end it was from the extra cover region.

Markande into the attack. Okay then. Dhoni: ticked. Kohli: ?

Up to Kohli now. Can he wage a lone battle and win it? End of powerplay. RCB: 55 for 2 after 6 overs.

Mitch McClenaghan strikes again. This time nets the big fish - ABD. Lured him with a short ball and the man at deep square leg did the rest.

QDK is clean bowled!!!

The Big Mac strikes! QDK is clean bowled. RCB 40 for 1 in 4.1 overs.

Scratch that. Leave all your chores and watch the chase master construct another master piece. The base has been set. The cover drive off the last ball was a part of the garnishing act. He looked serene.

A loud call for caught behind and MI after some deliberation don't go for the review. The man under the scanner was Virat Kohli.

A top-edged sweep, a wristy flick, a swatted slash and a few dots sum up Krunal's first over. RCB: 20 for no loss after 2 overs.

A wristy on-drive to finish the first over. I can empty my wallet to see it again and again. Once broke, I will lend more from others. This man is a sheer genius!!

Bumrah with the new ball. Not a bad ploy. Good attacking captaincy from Rohit. In fact he is not on the field. Pollard is leading the side for the moment.

Here we go. 'King' Kohli out there opening the batting. Who would not want a Kohli special in a run-chase? QDK along with him can be key to the chase as well.

Looked to time the ball instead of muscling it...Rohits knock eclipsed a top knock by Lewis in the end. Whattaa Player... #MIvRCB #IPL — Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) April 17, 2018

Chris Woakes (purple cap holder): "Nice to pick up some wickets today. I feel it's a chaseable score. Always a high scoring affair here. Sometimes you will go for runs, but you should stick to the plans and try to execute it."

Meanwhile Chris Woakes has become the owner of the Purple cap with 8 wickets from 4 games.

Huge end to the innings. 21 off the last over. Rohit Sharma looked set for a ton but then holed out for 94 off the penultimate ball. Hardik Pandya's survival of a DRS call also did not go along well with Virat Kohli. He had a few stern words of advice for one of the on-field umpires. Lots of drama and lots of action towards the end. Have MI put it beyond the reach of RCB?

Over number 19 goes for 15, sees the wicket of Pollard and a bizzare DRS call with Hardik Pandya in question. And Pandya rubs insult into the wounds of RCB by tonking two sixes.

Umesh Yadav's second spell: 2-0-28-0

Umesh Yadav's first spell: 2-0-8-2

Over number 14: 10 runs, Over number 15: 15 runs, Over number 16: 10 runs, Over number 17: 13 runs..MI are giving the accelerator some overtime here.

Rohit heaves one behind square. That ball was kissed by the curse of oblivion. 200 on for sure?

Play restarts and Krunal is run-out at the bowler's end. Rohit wanted a dicey second and Krunal has to pay for it. Make way for Pollard. Chahal in his three overs so far has gone for 32! Another ordinary day for the leggie.

Krunal and Anderson collide. Krunal seems to have done something to one of his hands. The physio treating him. A little pause in play.

Umesh Yadav is back. And Rohit welcomes him with a six and a four. Races to fifty off 32 balls much like Lewis. 15 of Umesh Yadav's third over. Mumbai will look to score 200!

Lewis falls for 65 off 42 balls. Corey Anderson getting his number as the southpaw tried to heave one away only for the slice to go up. QDK took it. Krunal Pandya walks in..

Two more sixes off Chahal. Lewis is taking this away from RCB.

MI finally had some good fortune

Lewis and Rohit survive back-to-back run-out scares off the last two balls of the 10th over. The partnership has been breathtaking but the running between the wickets has had Mumbai's fans gasping.

Corey Anderson into the attack and his former skipper at MI - Rohit Sharma takes him for a couple of fours. Both struck with immense power through cover!

Rohit Sharma decides to break the little silence of the fans at Wankhede by dancing down the track. The recipe after that is known. Ball fetched back from deep mid-wicket. Sundar not allowed to settle down. 13 of his second over. His spell so far: 2-0-32-0. MI are 76 for 2 after 8 overs.

MI: 0 for 2 in 0.2 overs and now are 60 for 2 in 6 overs.

Hello and welcome Mr. Siraj says Lewis by tonking him over deep backward square leg. Sixeeerrrrrrrrr! 16 of the over. MI are racing along.

Not Sundar at all! Lewis and Rohit cream Washington Sundar for 19 runs in his first over. MI: 40 for 2 after 4 overs. Lewis survives a close run-out scare off the last ball as well.

And then 12 runs of the second over. T20 cricket and its dynamics..Rohit silking a drive through covers and Lewis pulling one into the orbital system.

Rohit Sharma negates the hat-trick ball. MI 3 for 2 after first over. Could it have been worse after three straight losses?

Umesh Yadav is on fire. Seam up delivery clean bowls Ishan Kishan now. Two balls. Two wickets. Umesh is on a hat-trick.

Knocks him over!! Surya Yadav misses an in-swinger and is gone for a blob. Whatta start for RCB..None for One..

The Bangalore boys huddle together and disperse! Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis are the men in blue in the middle. Umesh Yadav will unleash first. Slip for him..

The last three games has seen teams batting first win the games. Will the trend remain intact?

Siraj, Anderson and Sarfaraz come in for RCB and Big M comes in for MI.

RCB win the toss and have elected to bowl first. They have made three changes to their side. MI make one change.

Toss time!!

Sunny G @ pitch report: There is less grass compared to the first game. There will be little bit of turn and grip. But there is a little bit of grass and the ball will carry through nicely.

We aren't too far away from the toss and expect both teams to tinker and tanker with their line ups to bring in some luck!

The record at Wankhede is 4-3 in favour of Mumbai but expect Bangalore to ensure that they level the scores tonight. Mumbai on the other hand have been unfortunate as they have lost all their games by being pipped at the post.

Bonjour! It is time for Mumbai Indians versus Royal Challengers Bangalore in game 14 of IPL 2018. Mumbai Indians are win-less and Bangalore have problems pricking them as well. We will give you a head-start. Munch on this appetiser from Aayush Puthran: The battle of the biggies.
