Drake – Nice For What

On Thursday night, while making an appearance at OVO signees Majid Jordan’s show, Drake announced a new single would be released within the next 24 hours.

“The reason I’m here tonight is because I’m back in the city finishing my album,” he explained to the audience. “I’ve got a new single dropping tomorrow night too, just in case you got some free time.”

He not only delivered on the promise of a single within 24 hours, he also released accompanying music video for “Nice For What,” a Murda Beatz production featuring a sample of Lauryn Hill’s “Ex Factor.” The video features cameos from Issa Rae, Misty Copeland, Rashida Jones, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tiffany Hadish and more.

“Maybe getting back to my regular life will humble me, I’ll be back 2018 to give you the summary,” Drake rapped on the final bars of More Life. Apparently, meant every word.

Since the beginning of 2018, Drake has dominated charts, playlists and radio airwaves. “God’s Plan,” one half of the Scary Hours EP he released in January, has already topped Billboard’s Hot 100 charts. Its accompanying video, in which Drake gives nearly $1 million away to students and families in need, has racked up over 340 million views since its arrival in February.

But chart domination doesn’t seem to enough to satisfy the Toronto rapper. In 2018, he tied with Eminem on the FORBES Five list, bringing in $100 million the year prior thanks to touring and an equity stake in Virginia Black whiskey.

Though Drake hasn’t announced a date for the album, one can hope he’ll make good on his promise before the day's end.

About “Nice For What”

“Nice For What” is Drake’s third single of 2018, coming after the Scary Hours EP in January.

Throughout the song, Drake speaks about female empowerment in the digital age. Women can be found trying to gain a following and live in the light, but that also comes with some resistance and hate. Despite what they go through, Drake shows that he understands and appreciates the hustle.

It was first teased by Lauryn Hill’s son, Joshua Marley on social media in early March of 2018 under the name “Showin' Off.”

Drake is sharing the spotlight with some of the women who inspire him most in his latest video.

The rapper, 31, debuted the music video for his song “Nice for What” on Friday night and gave his fans a huge reason to stay in and watch it: The video features some of Hollywood’s hottest and most inspiring female talent.

Beginning with Olivia Wilde, the video shows off such A-list talent as Tracee Ellis Ross, Zoe Saldana, Issa Rae and Yara Shahidi (wearing a Harvard sweatshirt).

As Drake sings in the background and appears briefly throughout the video, the focus remains on the women currently making power moves in the entertainment industry.

The song sampled Lauryn Hill’s 1998 song “Ex Factor” as Tiffany Haddish, Misty Copeland, Rashida Jones and model Jourdan Dunn also made appearances.

Black Panther‘s Letitia Wright, as well as actresses Michelle Rodriguez, Bria Vinaite, Emma Roberts, singer Syd and twin sisters Elizabeth and Victoria Lejonhjarta, who are models, were also featured.

Wilde tweeted her reaction to the video on Friday, writing, “This was funnnnnnnn.”

Cardi B, who dropped her debut album on Friday, sampled the same Hill song on “Be Careful.”

The Canadian rapper released his first hit single of the year, “God’s Plan,” in January. He is currently working on a new album, but no release date or title has been announced, according to Genius.
