Easter may be the time when you have to stock up on food, drink and everything else besides, but it’s also a national holiday.
That means heading down your local supermarket on Easter Sunday can turn out to be a pointless exercise.
But then again, as the years go by, supermarkets are extending their opening hours and making exceptions on holidays.
So is your local supermarket open today? Let’s find out.
Asda
Sadly, Asda’s main stores in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will all be closed on Easter Sunday, but those in Scotland will operate normal opening hours.

The majority of Iceland stores across the UK are open on Easter Sunday.
However, you should check whether your local Iceland is open using their store finder here.

Morrisons is the only supermarket open for the majority of the weekend.
The main stores are open 10am to 5pm on Easter Sunday, though customers are still advised to check their local branch here.
Stores will also be opening 9am to 6pm on Easter Monday.

All Waitrose shops in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday.
But you can find out more specific opening hours and store locations using the Waitrose Branch Finder.
Other supermarket opening times for Easter 2018 Sainsbury’s Sainsbury’s will operate normal opening hours up to and including Thursday 29 April. They will open as usual on Good Friday but closing times will vary from store to store; more information on individual store times here. Sainsbury’s will operate normal opening hours up to and including Thursday 29 April.
They will open as usual on Good Friday but closing times will vary from store to store; more information on individual store times here.
Easter Saturday will have normal opening hours but stores will be closed in England and Wales on Easter Sunday. Some Sainsbury’s Local stores may be open, however.
Stores in Scotland will remain open on Easter Sunday.
On Easter Monday, most stores will be open between 9am and 7pm.
Tesco
Tesco opening hours will vary but most branches will be closed on Easter Sunday and restricted opening hours will be in place on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
Saturday should be open as usual in most supermarkets.

Waitrose
Most stores are closed on Easter Sunday and opening hours vary from branch to branch.
On Good Friday and Saturday, most stores will open between 7/8am and close between 8/9pm.
Stores will mainly be closed on Easter Monday but some will open for restricted trading hours.

Aldi stores will be open for slightly shorter hours on Good Friday, with most of them running from 8am until 8pm.
Most shops will then be open from 8am until 10pm on Saturday 31st March, and then all stores will be closed on Easter Sunday (except Scotland which will run 9am-8pm)
Easter Monday will see Aldi stores continue a reduced service of 8am-8pm and all stores will then return to normal opening hours on Tuesday 3rd April.

You are advised to check your local shop on the Iceland store finder to check that it isn’t operating under different hours.

Most stores will be running their normal opening hours on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Monday.

The majority of Tesco stores will be closed on Easter Sunday for the entire day.
On Easter Monday all stores in England and Wales will open between 9am and 6pm except Tesco Express stores, which will operate normal hours.

All stores in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are shut on Easter Sunday although stores in Scotland will be open as normal.

Customers are advised to check their local store for exact timings.
When is Sainsbury's open over Easter?
A large number of Sainsbury's Local stores will be open over Easter but there may well be differences for the bank holiday weekend hours.
On Easter Sunday supermarkets in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be closed for the day but most convenience stores and petrol station outlets will be open.
In Scotland, Sainsbury's stores will be staying open for the day.
On bank holiday Monday, April 2, some stores are opening for shorter days while others - particularly in London - will resume service as usual.

When are the Easter holidays 2018?
This year Good Friday fell on March 30 and Easter Monday is on April 2 – while the school break is two weeks long.
The celebration for most adults will be a four-day weekend as Good Friday and Easter Monday are also bank holidays.
For most kids, the school holidays this year start on Thursday, March 29, through to Monday, April 16.
