The End Is Near in the Explosive New Avengers: Infinity War Trailer

We’re just a few weeks away from the release of Avengers: Infinity War — its release date was recently bumped up a week to April 27th — and now, Marvel has released new trailer to stir up some more excitement for the upcoming superhero showdown.

Infinity War promises to be one of the biggest films Marvel has ever made, combining almost every single superhero from across the 18-film franchise that began 10 years ago with the release of Iron Man in 2008. As the star-studded trailer shows, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, the rest of the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and pretty much every other ancillary character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are back.

All these highly paid actors will be joining forces against the villainous Thanos (Josh Brolin), the big bad that Marvel has been teasing in post-credit stingers since the first Avengers film was released six years ago. Thanos is trying to gather the six Infinity Stones, the MacGuffin items of power from across the various Marvel films. And judging by the trailer, it’ll be an uphill battle to stop him.

Here’s your latest look at Avengers: Infinity War—and Thanos’ is here to kick some major butt.

The second big trailer for Infinity War gives us a few more hints at Thanos’ climactic arrival into the lives of our heroes. Suffice to say, when he wants to murder half the galaxy, it’s not going to go well for Earth’s mightiest.

Aside from some amazing looks at the action—especially in Wakanda, with Thanos’ armies going to war against the combined forces of the Avengers and Black Panther’s army—we get some really intriguing hints at Thanos’ plan here, similar to his long-time one from the comics: wiping out half the galaxy in a snap of his fingers. Although here it’s more of a “bring balance to all things” instead of “impressing the female avatar of death itself.”

But man, there’s a lot going on! Glimpses of Thor seemingly getting his new Mjolnir replacement, flashes back to Thanos encountering Gamora for the first time... even our first look at the meeting between Iron Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy, which... well, goes about exactly as you’d expect. It’s all looking rather good.

Avengers: Infinity War releases April 27.

(CNN) Marvel's Avengers have taken on aliens, robots and even each other. If the latest trailer for the Disney studio's new superhero movie is any indication of what's next, they are about to take on their greatest foe yet: Thanos.

The imposing (and quite purple) space villain flexes his muscles in film's new trailer, which premiered on Friday morning. The preview includes your standard Marvel comic book action mixed with comedy, but Thanos' looming presence sets the scene what what appears to be a major battle on the horizon.

"The entire time I knew him he only ever had one goal: To wipe out half the universe," Zoe Saldana's Gamora is heard saying in the trailer. "If gets all the Infinity Stones, he can do it with the snap of his fingers. Just like that."

"Tell me his name again," Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man asks.

Gamora responds in a whisper, "Thanos."
