Update (Mar. 12, 3:23 P.M.): Apparently, Cameron Diaz isn’t retiring from anything! In a tweet posted Monday, Selma Blair clarified that her remarks about Diaz retiring from the film world were meant to be a joke.
We won’t be getting any more There’s Something About Mary moments from Cameron Diaz. Or Charlie’s Angels moments. Or Bad Teacher moments. (Remember Bad Teacher?) According to her close friend Selma Blair, the actress has reportedly retired from acting. Those Shrek residuals aren’t gonna spend themselves, you know?
In a recent interview, Blair said her friend was “done” with the whole acting thing. Diaz apparently relayed the news to her when they were grabbing lunch and reminiscing over their raunchy 2002 comedy, The Sweetest Thing.
“I would have liked to do a sequel, but Cameron’s retired from acting,” Blair said. “She’s like, ‘I’m done.’”
Blair then pointed out that Diaz, who made her debut in the 1994 film The Mask, has had a pretty lengthy career. “I mean, she doesn’t need to make any more films,” Blair noted. “She has a pretty great life; I don’t know what it would take to bring her back.”
Apparently, The Sweetest Thing 2 is not a strong enough lure for Diaz. It would appear that Blair is right about her pal’s quiet retirement: Diaz hasn’t starred in anything since the 2014 Annie remake, in which she played a grouchy modern version of orphan wrangler Miss Hannigan.
Perhaps she’s taking a cue from Renée Zellweger, who took a six-year break from movies because she needed time off from the rat race, or Michelle Pfeiffer, who told Interview in 2017 that she dropped off the Hollywood radar because she got so picky she became essentially “unhireable.”
It may be more likely, though, that Diaz is following the example of another friend, Gwyneth Paltrow, and focusing more on her career in wellness. In 2013, Diaz released the bestseller The Body Book (with the heady subtitle The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body), which shared personal and scientific recipes for health and happiness. The book also has an accompanying Web site that ticks off all the boxes on your Goopy bingo card. Organic vegetarian recipes? Check. Yoga advice? Double check. Tips for coordinating crystals to your love life? Triple check! All we’re missing are yurt recommendations and a suspicious jade yoni egg or two.
Thankfully, Diaz’s press tours for The Body Book and her 2016 follow-up, The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time, also gave us other quirky wellness moments, like that time she pounded back a liter of water on Dr. Oz, or when she told Ellen DeGeneres that her nickname for husband Benji Madden is “Buh.” Just Buh!
Representatives for Diaz have not confirmed reports of the actress’s retirement to Vanity Fair.

A decade ago, Cameron Diaz was the highest-paid actress in Hollywood.
In the 12 months leading up to June 2008, she had earned roughly $50 million, according to Forbes, thanks to being a star of the four-part Shrek franchise, plus live-action turns in the comedy What Happens in Vegas and the tear-jerker My Sister's Keeper, which came out the following year.
"Cameron Diaz, that's my girl. Now she's a bloody top actress, isn't she?" Eric Bana's completely obnoxious husband said in front of his actress wife played by Leslie Mann in Judd Apatow's 2010 comedy Funny People. "...Ahhh, Something About Mary. I love that movie! She's so funny!"
Point being, Diaz was always the epitome of the men-want-her-and-women-want-to-be-her movie star: gorgeous but relatable; good in gross-out comedies, action movies and trippy stuff like Vanilla Sky; and pretty much the person you most wanted to hang out with at the party.
Yet even with so many people paying attention all the time, it was still easy to miss that, like a cruise ship, the four-time Golden Globe nominee had slowly... slowly... started to change course.
Until seemingly all of a sudden one day, it turned out she had done a full 180 and sailed off in an entirely different direction.

The actress last appeared as Miss Hannigan in the rebooted version of Annie nearly four years ago.
Speaking at the Vanity Fair post-Oscars bash, Selma said the pair had been reminiscing about their 2002 film Sweetest Thing when Cameron spoke out.
She recalled: "I had lunch with Cameron the other day.
"We were reminiscing about the film. I would have liked to do a sequel but Cameron’s retired from acting. She’s like ‘I’m done'.”

Selma added: "I mean, she doesn’t need to make any more films.
"She has a pretty great life, I don’t know what it would take to bring her back. She’s happy."
Meanwhile, a source told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: "Cameron is constantly inundated with film scripts trying to tempt her out of retirement but she’s just not interested.
"She’s happy, in love and wants to make the most of her freedom and free time."

Cameron has shied away from the spotlight since marrying rocker Benji, 39, back in 2015 - and reports last year suggested they were planning to adopt a baby.
The star gushed about Benji in an interview with GOOP, telling founder Gwyneth Paltrow in June 2017: "I have a husband who is just my partner in life and in everything."
She said she waited until her forties to get married as it took some time to meet Mr Right.
She admitted: "I think it's a matter of I just hadn't met my husband, you know?"

She added: "I had boyfriends before. And there's a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends."
After beginning her career as a model, Cameron went on to find fame as a sultry jazz singer in Jim Carrey film The Mask in 1994 before going on to star in There's Something About Mary and Charlie's Angels.
Other hits include My Best Friend's Wedding and A Life Less Ordinary while she's also tackled serious fare like Martin Scorsese's 2002 epic Gangs Of New York.
She is one of Hollywood's leading ladies, with blockbusters such as Charlie's Angels, Shrek and There's Something About Mary to her name.

Speaking at the Oscar's Vanity Fair pre-party in LA last week, Selma, who stars in the 2002 movie The Sweetest Thing with the blonde beauty, said: 'I had lunch with Cameron the other day, we were reminiscing about the film.

'I mean, she doesn't need to make any more films, she has a pretty great life, I don't know what it would take to bring her back.'
Cameron has been on a hiatus since the release of Annie back in 2014, where she starred as Miss Hannigan.

Upon its December premiere, the film made $133 million worldwide, with her performance as the cruel orphanage worker garnering polarised reviews.

Diaz and Madden met in 2014 after being introduced by Nicole Richie and married seven months later in an intimate ceremony at the actress's Beverly Hills home in January 2015.
Back in January, Us Weekly reported that the starlet was more interested in starting a family than continuing her career in front of the camera.

'Cameron hasn’t wanted to work,' a source told the magazine, 'She is enjoying being at home and being a housewife, she would love more than anything to be a mom.'
'At this point they would be very happy with the miracle of one child,' the source added.
The actress has previously said 'nothing else matters' now she has her husband in her life.
In a rare interview with Andy Cohen in 2016, she said: 'It was one of those things where everyone tells you, "You just know when you know". I was like, "What does that mean?" Oh, I get it. You just know when you know. Like you're my husband.
'The first thing I said when I first met my husband was, "He's hot". How come I didn't know this before? We had never been in the same circle… You know, nothing matters now that I have my husband. Like, I don't even remember any of that.
'No one compares. Everything else just like washes and slips away. You realise like, "Oh this is like the real thing is. This is what real love is. This is what real commitment and devotion is. This is the person you build your life with".'
