Avengers: Infinity War has already broken advance ticket sales records on Fandango becoming the best-selling superhero movie ever — and it only took six hours. Tickets went on sale at 6AM PST/9AM EST today.
At this point in time, Avengers: Infinity War is outstripping the first day 24-hour ticket sales of both Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Fandango’s previous superhero first day advance-ticket seller, and Black Panther.
Back in January when we noticed that Black Panther was beating Captain America: Civil War as the highest Marvel pre-seller in 24 hours, we were cautioned by analysts about making lofty box office opening projections given the anomaly that the Ryan Coogler-directed was. No one believed a deeper universe character such as Black Panther would overindex to such great heights. But indeed, Black Panther beat the 3-day opening of Civil War, $202M to $179.1M.
In a Fandango survey of more than 1,000 moviegoers who snapped up Infinity War tickets this morning:
–97% can’t wait to see how dozens of heroes work together in the same film
–94% are excited to see different franchise characters (Guardians, Avengers, etc.) meeting one another for the first time.
–92% see “Infinity War” as the culmination of all of the MCU films before it.
–87% have seen all of the MCU movies.
–71% saw Black Panther on the big screen.
–60% claim Black Panther made them even more excited to see Avengers: Infinity War.
With every Fandango VIP purchase of Infinity War tickets, Fandango FanShop is offering a complimentary poster from the film sketched by artist Kaz Oomori, while supplies last (one example of image above).
The latest trailer for Avengers: Infinity War is here. The upcoming film, which will be the longest Marvel movie to date, has all the heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the Guardians of the Galaxy. Together, they'll join forces to fight the evil Thanos. The villainous space titan is trying to collect all of the Infinity Stones in order to rule the universe. Can the Marvel heroes join forces and work together in order to defeat this threat?
There is a lot going on in this new trailer, so we're breaking it all down to figure out what's going on in the new film and a few of the Easter eggs the trailer dropped as well. In addition, the trailer introduced us to a few new bad guys who work alongside Thanos, one of which could be played by Peter Dinklage.
If you're interested to see what happened to the rest of the heroes before the film, make sure to check out "Avengers Infinity War: Where Is Everyone?" However, we're still not sure where Hawkeye and Ant-Man are, as they don't appear in this trailer.
Avengers: Infinity War comes to theaters on April 27. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the team behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. Infinity War will be the first of two Avengers films directed by the Russos, which will completely change the landscape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. Let's breakdown what's going on in this new Infinity War trailer.
There’s plenty to be excited about in Marvel’s just-released Infinity War trailer, but fans might want to brace for a few tear jerking moments as well. The new trailer has sparked plenty of speculation that some fan favorite characters are going to die. While producers have revealed very little about the plot of the film, Infinity War looks much less sunnier than previous Marvel movies. As Thanos comes for the infinity stones, the tone of the previews suggests not everyone makes it out of Infinity War alive.
First, here are the three characters most likely to die.
3. Vision
Does anyone really care if Vision dies? Unfortunately, no. The character is too new and too tangential to the larger Avengers narrative to have garnered much fan investment, which makes him a good candidate to add to the body count in Infinity War.
While his death won’t have a huge emotional impact, the Avengers do lose a powerful team member and his death is likely to shake Tony Stark. Vision is also literally powered by an infinity stone that Thanos is after. Once Thanos has the mind stone, it’s all over for Vision.
2. Loki
In addition to reviving a comatose franchise, Thor:Ragnarok also did a remarkable job rehabilitating a complicated fan favorite character, Loki. When he showed up in the first Thor film, Loki was more mischievous than genocidal, and Tom Hiddleston’s smirking, charming performance endeared him to fans. That changed a bit after the first Avengers film, when he tried to take over the Earth and kill everyone, but Ragnarok redeemed him by focusing not on his power hungry side, but his relationship with his brother. At the end of Ragnarok, Loki’s put aside selfish ambition for the greater good and while not totally redeemed, he’s certainly on a better path. So, of course, that means he has to die in Infinity War. Why regress the character and have him turn his back on Thor again, when it’s so much more satisfying to give Loki a tragic and noble end?
The Infinity War trailer shows a small clip of Loki giving Thanos the Tesseract, but it’s possible he’s doing it under duress to save Thor. Loki’s “died” plenty of times already in MCU movies, but if he sacrificed himself now, for good, trying to stop Thanos, it would be the ultimate redemption arc.
1. Steve Rogers
Sorry, we all know this is happening, right?
Steve Rogers, along with Tony Stark, has been a cornerstone of the Marvel franchise, and it’s hard to argue that any other character has had such an emotional, powerful character journey. Steve started out as a noble, self-sacrificing kid from Brooklyn and has grown with every Marvel movie iteration. He’s been a man out of time, dealt with the unfinished business of Bucky Barnes, and fought against his friends for his ideals. He is literally too good and too pure for this world. No longer Captain America, Steve is kind of wandering the world fighting crime as a solo vigilante, which sounds like a miserable and sad way to live.
Most importantly, it feels like Steve and Captain America’s story has throughly been told. If there was an opportunity to give Steve a happy ending, he should have it, but it’s likely that there is no happily ever after. Like Bucky, Steve has a tragic air. It would be fitting, albeit heartbreaking, if he sacrificed himself for the sake of humanity.
Add this to the fact that Chris Evans’ contract with Marvel is up, it seems almost a given he doesn’t make it through Infinity War.
So, who does make it? Tony Stark.
Granted, it does not look good for Tony as Thanos tells him, “I hope they remember you” as he advances menacingly, there are a few compelling arguments to keep him around. As another anchor in the franchise, Tony Stark is the organizing, technical and financial force behind the Avengers. While Black Panther and Shuri could step into those shoes, it’s likely Tony sticks around to be a grounding force as the Avengers continue to expand and bring in new heroes. Plus, Steve’s death (if it happens) has the potential to take Tony’s character in a totally new direction. The success of the Spiderman franchise may also play into keeping Stark around. While we’re not going to see any more stand alone Iron Man movies, it’s likely he pops up in another Spiderman film. And unlike Steve, Tony does have a shot at a happy ending. He could (mostly) retire from the Avengers, settle down with Pepper and build fancy tech stuff. After years of misery, he certainly deserves it.
In January, movie ticket company Fandango reported that Black Panther set a record for ticket presales for Marvel movies (beating out 2016’s Captain America: Civil War’s previous record), setting up it up for a massive box office haul that’s since surpassed $1 billion. Tickets for Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Infinity War just went on sale on Friday, and Variety reports that the ticket sales for the film have already blew past Black Panther’s record — in just six hours.
Marvel released its final trailer for the superhero team-up movie yesterday in conjunction with the start of ticket sales, which comes out on April 27th. Variety says that Fandango released results from a user survey that showed a high level of excitement for the film, but also that Black Panther “made them more excited to see Avengers: Infinity War.”
The film will be one of the largest that Marvel Studios has released, starring many of the superheroes introduced in the franchise’s prior 18 films released in the last decade. This doesn’t come as a huge shock, but it does help anticipate that like Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War is on track to rake in a huge amount of money at the box office. Its predecessors, Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, grossed $1.5 billion and $1.4 billion, according to Box Office Mojo.
