Jose Mourinho's side know they have to win at Old Trafford to progress after the sides could not be separated after 90 minutes in Seville.
The manager named a strong side, and he hinted before the game that his team selection would not be affected by Sunday's Premier League fixture against Chelsea.
Paul Pogba started on the bench for United, however, while Scott McTominay was named in the line-up. But Pogba came on midway through the first half after an injury to Ander Herrera.
United had David De Gea to thank for a string of excellent saves, while Romelu Lukaku had a goal disallowed for handball.
But it remains all to play for in the second leg next month.

They then saw off Serbian outfit Brodarac 2-0 in a play-off to reach this stage.
Wales international Ben Woodburn is available for the Reds and captains the side, and with keeper Kamil Grabara also starting.

Willian has warned Manchester United Chelsea will be a different side when they travel to Old Trafford at the weekend.
Chelsea played a defensive game against Barcelona on Tuesday night, and performed brilliantly before a late mistake from Andreas Christensen gifted the Spaniards an away goal.
Barcelona enjoyed over 70 per cent of possession at Stamford Bridge during the 1-1 draw and Chelsea have another massive game against United on Sunday.
And Willian, Chelsea’s goalscorer against Barcelona, insisted his side fancy their chances against Jose Mourinho’s side.
‘We have confidence. We can go there and do a great job again against Manchester United,’ Willian told Sky Sports after the Barcelona game.
‘I think it’s going to be a different game from this one here [against Barcelona], but I think we can go there and win this game.

‘We go [to Barcelona] in three weeks’ time and we have difficult games as well in the Premier League.
‘Now we have to think about the games coming and then we have to think about Barcelona.’
Fourth place Chelsea could move level on points with United with a win in Manchester and Antonio Conte will be keen for his side to maintain their good form after a difficult few weeks.

Conte dropped Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata to the bench against Barcelona as the Italian opted to use Eden Hazard as a false nine, but either one of those strikers could be restored to the line-up against on Sunday.
United are looking for revenge against Chelsea after losing the reverse fixture 1-0 last November.
Chelsea have an excellent recent record against the Red Devils, having lost just once in 14 meetings between the sides.
