(Showbiz) K-Pop group Wanna One members spend four days exploring KL before tonight's fanmeet

KUALA LUMPUR: It’s rare for a popular K-Pop artiste to be seen walking around Malaysia’s capital city, in case they get mobbed by fans.

But K-Pop group Wanna One who is in town took that chance anyway since they had four free days before their fan meeting tonight at Stadium Negara.

The 11-member outfit arrived here on Monday and had been doing lots of shopping at Pavilion KL and, of course, eating, based on the photos fans had posted on Twitter.

Wanna One’s members comprise finalists of the survival reality competition “Produce 101” (Season 2), namely Daniel, Jihoon, Daehwi, Jaehwan, Seongwoo, Woojin, Guanlin, Jisung, Minhyun, Jinyoung and Sungwoon.

When met at a Press conference at JW Marriott Hotel earlier today, the group was asked what dish did they particularly enjoy, and Jinyoung quickly uttered “Mee goreng!”

“We also had a chance to go to a night market and try some unique delicacies like frog meat and coconut ice-cream,” said another member Seungwoo.

“I think that definitely adds up to the amazing experience we’ve had in Malaysia so far.”

Currently the hottest rookie group in South Korea, Wanna One had been widely accepted globally even before its debut in August last year.

It led to several chart-topping hits including Energetic, two successful mini-albums and a full-house debut concert.

Vocalist Jae-hwan said, “We couldn’t believe it at first that our songs topped the charts for weeks upon our debut.

“We see ourselves as an ordinary boy group so the fans’ incredible support has been amazing.”

KUALA LUMPUR: Instead of a fun-filled event, Wanna One's Malaysian fan meet tonight turned chaotic when some fans fainted and others injured within the first 10 minutes of the event.

Held at Stadium Negara tonight, the event had attracted more than 10,000 strong crowd, filling the venue to the brim.

While the K-Pop group was performing its opening set of two songs, fans in the packed rock zones were seen to be pushing one another to the front in an effort to get closer to the stage.

As a result, some of them fainted due to the over-crowded environment, while some suffered from injuries because of all the pushing.

Wanna One members were sent backstage while the security team and the paramedics tended to those affected.

"We won't come back out until you've stopped pushing," said member Daehwi.

The remaining fans in the rock zones were asked by the event crew to move to the back but they seemed to refuse to budge.

A representative from the police said should fans refuse to cooperate, the fan meet might be called off.

Wanna One played several fun and simple games on stage.

There was a 110-minute delay as the crew and security team attempted to restore order by asking the fans in the rock zones to sit lest the pushing happened again.

When the fan meet resumed, Wanna One members advised fans to be careful as their safety was their priority.

From then on, the rest of the fan meet went on without a glitch.

Daniel, Jihoon, Daehwi, Jaehwan, Seongwoo, Woojin, Guanlin, Jisung, Minhyun, Jinyoung and Sungwoon then played several fun and simple games on stage.

Wanna One performed its hit songs such as Energetic, Burn It Up, Beautiful, Wanna Be and Never for their fans in Kuala Lumpur.

Deafening screams were heard when Wanna One performed its hit songs such as Energetic, Burn It Up, Beautiful, Wanna Be and Never, as they showcased sleek dance moves.

The crew even prepared a cake for Daehwi, who would be celebrating his birthday on Jan 29, and the fans even sang the birthday song (in Korean) for him.

"It's so great to be here performing for you guys. We love Malaysian Wannables (a nickname for Wanna One fans)," said Daehwi.

"We love your warm hospitality and weather, we love the food here... We definitely have to come back," said Seungwoo.
