In a historic moment for Malaysian football, FMLLP have signed off on a deal with iflix to show matches on the portal.

Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) today announced their latest and historic partnership with iflix to show the Super League, Malaysia Cup, FA Cup and Premier League on the video-on-demand portal.

The 10 year deal is worth approximately RM300 million over the course of the deal and more significantly, it will be available for free for all fans of Malaysian football.

All matches from the Super League and Malaysia Cup will be shown live on iflix while selected matches from the FA Cup and Premier League will also be made available to be streamed live on the portal.

Iflix will also be creating various contents throughout the season that could include programmes like match reviews as well as player interviews.

"Football is the people's sport. It brings us together and unify us. Malaysian people wherever they are should be able to enjoy it without restrictions. With iflix, we have found the partner with the same vision to return football to the people," said HRH Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim during the launching ceremony in Johor Bahru.

Also present was iflix co-founder Patrick Grove who intends to meet with telecommunications companies in Malaysia to see if there's a way possible for mobile users who access the matches in iflix to not be charge for the data used.

While for the 2018 season, the content will be available for free, charges may be applied in future but FMLLP intends to cap that at RM20 if and when it comes to that.

If there’s one thing Malaysians love as much telling other people that Malaysia has great food, it’s football. This sport where a bunch of people chase a ball around a green field and occasionally kick it past someone into a net has something magical that just draws us to it.

If you’re one of the many die-hard football fans in Malaysia, today I shall be the bearer of good news because soon you’ll be able to watch live matches pretty much anywhere you have an internet connection thanks to iflix.

Yep, video streaming service iflix has partnered with Football Malaysia to bring live matches straight to your smartphone, tablet, computer, TV and wherever else you can get iflix on. This partnership means that iflix will now stream every Liga Super, Piala Malaysia, Piala Sumbangsih, selected Liga Premier and marquee Piala FA matches exclusively on the brand new “Football Malaysia on iflix” channel. What’s more, users will also get access to stuff like match highlights and player interviews too.

Perhaps the most interesting part about this is that this partnership wants to “bring football back to the people”. To accomplish this, iflix says that pretty much anyone with access to the internet will be able to live stream four Liga Super matches weekly, 46 tournament matches and selected Liga Premier matches for free “regardless of their subscription status”. In addition to that, new users and those with an active iflix subscription will have access and be able to enjoy all the matches and features.

Although that sounds like you can stream matches (whether it’s a select few or all the matches) regardless of whether you’re subscribed or not, we reached out to iflix and they have confirmed that you will still need an active iflix account to watch the matches. Even if it’s a trial account, you will still have access to all of the matches.

All of this will be beginning on the 3rd of February 2018 so you can stay tuned for that to show up on your iflix app. This isn’t the first time iflix has streamed live sports as they’re also streaming Indonesia’s Liga 1 football league, and have also streamed matches like the Mayweather vs McGregor fight in Indonesia, T10 Cricket in Bangladesh and even some esports titles like DOTA2.
