Local actress-model Sheila Sim weds banker Deon Woo in intimate celebration on Sunday

SINGAPORE: Mediacorp artiste Sheila Sim tied the knot with her fiance Deon Woo on Sunday (Jan 28), her agency said in a statement.

According to The Celebrity Agency (TCA), Sim's wedding consisted of a gatecrash, solemnisation, tea ceremony and lunch reception with 22 tables, of which 13 were occupied by family members.

"All the invited guests are very close friends of the couple, people who have seen them grow up, friends whom they grew up with, friends who witnessed their journey and also some friends who flew in from Taiwan and Hong Kong," TCA said.

The venue decor was inspired by Disney Pixar’s UP and featured lots of balloons, the Mediacorp agency added.

Sim said in the statement: "On this big day, being married to him, all I can feel is 'I am home'." TCA confirmed that Woo is a 37-year-old banker.

TCA said that after the wedding, Sim will be going on holiday to Japan, Nozawa. However, as she is currently involved in Channel 8 drama Reach for the Skies, she will not be going for her honeymoon until production ends in September.

Sim started her career as a fashion model and is now a partner of modelling agency Nu Models. The 33-year-old made her television acting debut in the 2013 drama I'm In Charge, and signed on to TCA last year.

She told Toggle in an interview last January that she met her then-boyfriend on a dating app in 2016 and he proposed to her on a ski vacation in Japan after they had known each other for about six months.

The actress also said in the interview that her partner is four years older than her and works in the banking industry.

The 32-year-old's wedding day comprised a gatecrash, solemnisation, tea ceremony and a 22-table lunch reception, The Celebrity Agency said in a statement.

Thirteen tables were reserved for family members.

Those present were "very close friends of the couple", including some who flew in from Taiwan and Hong Kong, and those who saw them grow up, the agency added.

Invited guests included makeup artist Clarence Lee, hairstylist Dexter Ng, fashion stylist Jeremy Tan, and artistes Chen Han Wei, Chew Chor Meng, Pan Ling Ling, Dennis Chew and Elvin Ng.

Sim met Woo, a 37-year-old Singaporean banker, on a dating application, according to previous media reports.

He proposed to her at sunset on a snowy Hokkaido mountain top on New Year's eve in 2016, after they had been dating for about six months.

On Sunday, their wedding venue was decorated with "lots of balloons", inspired by the Disney Pixar movie Up.

Sim added in the statement: "On this big day, being married to him, all I can feel is 'I am home'."

In an interview with Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min Daily News last January (2017), Sim said that she was attracted to her boyfriend's simple nature and thoughtful ways.

She posted a photo wearing her engagement ring on Instagram on Dec 31, 2016 with this message: "2016, you've been very kind and generous. I couldn't have asked for more.

"On top of everything else, you've given me clarity of mind and heart. You've given me the chance to get to know myself again. You've given me love."

By the time you’re reading this, Sheila Sim would officially be a married woman.

The 22-table wedding luncheon was attended by close friends of the couple; people who have seen them grow up, friends they have grown up with, friends who have witnessed their journey as a couple and even some who flew in from Taiwan and Hong Kong specially to witness the big day.

According to Sheila’s manager, the wedding venue was decorated based on the couple’s love story with lots of balloons, inspired by Disney Pixar animation UP. Among the celebrity friends in attendance today were Chen Hanwei, Elvin Ng, Nat Ho, Dennis Chew, Chew Chor Meng and Pan Ling Ling.

After the wedding, the couple will be heading for a snowboarding trip - but this won’t be their honeymoon, as Sheila has confirmed her involvement in upcoming Channel 8 longform drama, Reach for the Skies, and she will only be able to embark on her honeymoon in September, after filming wraps for her.

Sheila previously shared that she enlisted the help of a wedding planner, but that her husband, a 37-year-old banker named Deon Woo, became one of her biggest pre-wedding headaches because he was a “bit too relaxed” about the whole affair - in other words, bochup (couldn’t care less).

(Continued on next slide: What did Sheila have to say about her big day?)
