Jadwal FA Cup Putaran Ketiga pada 6-7 Januari 2018

(tirto.id - zan/zan)

1) Van Dijk finally making his Liverpool bow

If there is one message that Jürgen Klopp has to drum into his defenders before Friday night’s Merseyside derby, it is to resist the temptation to place their hands on any Everton attackers in their own area. Manage that and Liverpool should be capable of extinguishing the frustration of last month’s draw with Sam Allardyce’s side, when Dejan Lovren conceded a late penalty with a needless and clumsy push on Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Klopp turned on plenty of people after the game – even a member of Everton’s press team was in the firing line after Wayne Rooney’s penalty – but Lovren was the real culprit and it is telling that Liverpool have bolstered their defence by spending £75m on Virgil van Dijk. Having scored once in their past four matches, Everton could find goals even harder to come by if Van Dijk is ready to make his debut. Jacob Steinberg

2) Derby fans left high and dry by scheduling

Any Derby supporters hoping to get the train back to the Midlands on Friday night will have to leave the away end at Old Trafford at half-time. Ridiculously, the last feasible train journey to Derby (via Sheffield) leaves Manchester Piccadilly at 9.22pm, midway through the second half. To make matter worse, a train previously advertised as leaving at 11pm is no longer running – East Midlands Trains were forced to apologise for “an error in the national Network Rail train planning system” – meaning there will likely be plenty of people stranded in Manchester on Friday night. The good news: those that bought tickets for the 11pm will be entitled to a free refund. The bad news: they won’t be able to get home. The draw was made in early December. How has this shambles been allowed to happen? Michael Butler

3) Dyche going toe-to-toe with Guardiola?

Burnley wasted a golden chance to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup last season when Lincoln City became the first non-league team in 103 years to reach the last eight of the competition. In the third round this year, Sean Dyche’s team face a tougher task: a trip to Manchester City. But while Pep Guardiola will almost certainly use Saturday’s game as a chance to rest key personnel with league titles and the Champions League still to come, Dyche would be unwise to follow suit. Just as a weakened Leicester side came unstuck at Millwall in the fifth round last year, too often Premier League sides play their second string when they are clear of relegation danger and have nothing else to play for. Get through this tough tie, and Burnley have a genuine chance of winning the FA Cup – after all, the league table says they are the seventh best team in England. Dyche should go for glory – three points at Crystal Palace a week on Saturday doesn’t matter nearly as much. MB

4) Bristol City need right balance before Etihad trip

In different circumstances it would be tempting to make Bristol City favourites to win at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon. The team who stunned Manchester United last month have already performed heroics in the Carabao Cup, reaching the last four after putting out four Premier League sides, and that giantkilling run began with a 3-2 victory away to Watford in August. Yet Lee Johnson has some tough decisions to make before facing Marco Silva’s inconsistent side. Not only are his team chasing promotion from the Championship, he also has to keep his players fresh before they visit Manchester City for the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final next Tuesday. Do not expect Johnson to wave the white flag, especially as Watford are vulnerable after a poor run of form, but finding the right balance will not be easy. JS

5) VAR may stir passions in Monday night derby

All eyes on the Amex on Monday night for the preposterously scheduled 7.45pm kick-off between rivals Brighton and Crystal Palace. During the match, Neil Swarbrick will be making history from a studio near Heathrow, becoming the first Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to be used in an English competitive club match. Surrounded by approximately 70 screens to aid him, Swarbrick will be able to liaise with the match referee, Andre Marriner, if a clear error has been made regarding goals, penalties, straight red cards and cases of mistaken identity. Two stewards were taken to hospital when Brighton and Palace met in the Premier League in November – the FA could hardly have chosen a more fiery fixture for their latest innovation. MB

6) More woe for Pellegrino against Fulham?

It is strange to think that Southampton were preparing for a League Cup semi-final against Liverpool this time last year. They still felt like the perfect example of a modern, well-run club 12 months ago. They remained comfortable in mid-table despite being hit by so much upheaval, and beating Liverpool over two legs seemed to offer further vindication of Southampton’s vision. Since then, however, drift has taken hold and Mauricio Pellegrino is under immense pressure after Tuesday night’s defeat to Crystal Palace pitched his directionless team firmly into a relegation battle. The constant talent drain has taken a toll, sapping Southampton’s spirit, and it will not go down as a shock if Fulham further loosen Pellegrino’s grip on his job by beating the Premier League strugglers at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon. 7) Mir to make his mark at Molineux

Top of the Championship meets bottom of the Premier League – it will come as a surprise to nobody that Wolves are favourites to beat Swansea on Saturday. What will be interesting to see is if manager Nuno Espírito Santo utilises his new £1.8m signing Rafa Mir, who this week turned down a move to Real Madrid to play in England’s second tier. Mir has been handed the No9 shirt at Molineux and a match against a Swansea defence bereft of confidence could be the perfect way to bed him in. If the 20-year-old scores on debut, all the better to give competition to the first-choice forward Léo Bonatini, who hasn’t scored in a month. If Mir has a stinker, at least it won’t affect Wolves’ push for promotion. MB

8) Wimbledon fans soaking up Wembley return

Wimbledon have an excellent record at Wembley. On their last outing in the League Two play-off final in 2015-16, they beat Plymouth 2-0. In 2008, they won a pre-season friendly 8-1 to mark the 125th anniversary of Corinthian Casuals. The club’s previous visit to that, albeit under a slightly different name, ended with them winning the FA Cup in 1988, 30 years ago. Whatever the score is when they play Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday, the trip from one side of London to another will be a nostalgic one for the thousands of travelling away fans. When they marched up Wembley Way before the final in ’88, Wimbledon fans had to endure opposition fans pre-emptively wearing ‘Liverpool FC Double Winners’ T-shirts. This time, AFC fans will be wearing a smile as wide as Wembley’s arch and maybe even a limited-edition ‘We Are The Resurrection’ T-shirt. MB

9) Pardew risks further pain by resting players

The Alan Pardew bounce is yet to materialise for West Bromwich Albion. Tuesday’s painful defeat to West Ham means it is 20 games since their last victory and their new manager has been unable to ease their relegation fears. Goal difference alone is keeping West Brom off the bottom of the Premier League and after a draining run of fixtures, Pardew must be tempted to rest players for Saturday’s trip to Exeter City. But that would be a huge gamble from a manager whose team desperately needs a win to start repairing their battered confidence. Defeat to the League Two side would only deepen the gloom and the danger is that another disappointment could still be on West Brom’s mind when they host Brighton on Saturday week. JS

10) Cardiff look to bounce back against Stags

Cardiff have had a rotten Christmas, losing their last four matches in the Championship. Remarkably, they have only slipped one place to third – thanks to rivals Bristol City losing heavily at Aston Villa – but they are just a couple more bad results away from falling out of the play-off places. Confidence is key, and whilse Neil Warnock’s assertion last week that Sol Bamba is a better defender than Virgil van Dijk has done nothing but heap more pressure on one of his key players, a clean sheet and comfortable win against League Two Mansfield could get his side back on the promotion trail. The FA Cup third round is famous for shocks and surprises - and, these days, also a job-lot of team changes of course - but what does the famous old competition have in store for us this year?

BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson and his guest have taken a look at all 32 of this weekend's ties and given their verdict on who will make it into round four.

This week Lawro is up against comedian Guz Khan, star of BBC Three comedy Man Like Mobeen.

Media playback is not supported on this device Man Utd fan Guz Khan's FA Cup predictions

Guz is from Coventry but supports Manchester United "from the bottom of my heart" - and is keen to explain why.

He told BBC Sport: "It was the 1994-95 season and I was sat in this tiny place up north called Brierfield [in Lancashire] which is where my family are from - and they are all massive United fans.

"I was really young and I didn't even know what football was but I saw the pain and heartbreak in their eyes when Blackburn Rovers won the Premier League that season.

"I thought from that day on I want to be involved in this pain process. Luckily for me, it was all success that I saw immediately after that, but it was borne out of pain."

Guz says his favourite FA Cup moment is the solo goal Ryan Giggs scored in United's win over Arsenal in a semi-final replay on their way to winning the treble in 1999, but he has good memories of watching Coventry too.

He explained: "The iconic moment has to be the full chest hair, the rug from Ryan when he was skipping through the defence and he clapped that left peg - BOOM! - past David Seaman.

Media playback is not supported on this device Giggs's extra-time goal against Arsenal

"I think what made the FA Cup so special, especially when I was a kid, was the fact that you could have a minnow team - a random team - come along and really put up a fight.

"And being from Coventry, we grew up in the days when the stadium was still at Highfield Road. They used to let us in late at the end of games for the last 10 minutes.

"We got to see the hey-day when they were in the top flight but we were still regarded as a small club.

"In the FA Cup, though, on any given day, the likes of Darren Huckerby or Peter Ndlovu could go on a rampage and put anybody out.

"It is that memory of smaller clubs being able to do big things that I think is the magic of the FA Cup."

Man Like Mobeen starts on BBC One on Sunday 14 January at 23:30 GMT or you can watch the whole series now on BBC Three on BBC iPlayer.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is under more pressure following his side's defeat by Newcastle on Monday but I think he will get some respite on Saturday. I hope so anyway.

Media playback is not supported on this device Hughes walks out of news conference

Fans of any Premier League teams who moan like hell about everything should spare a thought for Coventry supporters because what they have been through in the past few years is just ridiculous.

Mark Robins is doing a really good job and I would love the Sky Blues to get a draw and earn some money in a replay.

But, because of the gulf between the Premier League and League Two, it is impossible to see them winning this tie.

I would say the same about West Brom's visit to Exeter. Because it is so long since the Baggies won, they simply have to take this game seriously - they have to go and win a game soon, because just doing that would be massive for them.

Media playback is not supported on this device Bizarre goals, bad jokes, lookalikes & FA Cup funnies

Newcastle have got home advantage against Luton in their tie and I think that will see them through, no matter what team Magpies boss Rafa Benitez picks. I hope the Hatters fans who are travelling in numbers get something for their money though.

Guz Khan: We're City til we die! We know we are, we're sure we are, we're City til we die. Look, I'm a United fan but I will sing it for you because I am proud to come from Coventry. I am still going to say we will get smacked by Stoke, though. I can't lie.

The Baggies will win though. They have been through a bit of turmoil this season but I think they will beat Exeter.

Premier League v League One

Gap Result Lawro Guz SATURDAY Fleetwood v Leicester 48 x-x 0-2 0-2 Bournemouth v Wigan 30 x-x 2-1 3-0 SUNDAY Shrewsbury v West Ham 31 x-x 0-1 0-3 Tottenham v AFC Wimbledon 60 x-x 2-0 6-0

Lawro: I am going to Fleetwood v Leicester and everyone is hoping that Jamie Vardy shakes off his injury and play. Even if he doesn't, I still think the Foxes will win, although Fleetwood boss Uwe Rosler is doing a very good job there.

Leicester are eighth in the table and their manager Claude Puel could put some money in the bank with a decent cup run. It would keep the punters happy, so why wouldn't you play a strong team?

Wigan are full flow at the top of League One and their forward Nick Powell is obviously far too good for that division. He has the ability to play in the Premier League, but does he have the desire?

It is important that Bournemouth approach that tie with the right attitude. If they do, I think they will win.

Media playback is not supported on this device Shrews tame Everton in 2003

West Ham manager David Moyes will not enjoy going back to Shrewsbury, who famously beat his Everton team in 2003 and are going well in League One,

I don't think Moyes will suffer any more embarrassment this time, while Tottenham will be too strong for AFC Wimbledon - although their fans will get to enjoy a day out at Wembley.

Guz Khan: If Vardy is fit he might have a little point to prove and there might be emotions involved as well, but I am saying Leicester to win. Marko Arnautovic is looking a bit tasty and West Ham are in decent form so I am backing them, and Tottenham are going to roll over the former Crazy Gang.

Premier League v Championship

Gap Result Lawro Guz FRIDAY Man Utd v Derby 20 x-x 2-0 4-1 SATURDAY Bolton v Huddersfield 29 x-x 1-2 2-0 Fulham v Southampton 13 x-x 2-1 0-2 Norwich v Chelsea 30 x-x 0-2 0-5 Watford v Bristol City 14 x-x 2-0 1-1 Wolves v Swansea 1 x-x 2-0 2-0 SUNDAY Nottingham Forest v Arsenal 28 x-x 0-3 1-0

Derby are doing very well at the top of the Championship and Manchester United dropped points over Christmas, but they despatched Everton very easily in their last game and I don't see a shock happening at Old Trafford.

The FA Cup could turn into an important competition for United boss Jose Mourinho, because they are not going to win the Premier League, and they are probably not going to win the Champions League either.

Media playback is not supported on this device Scholes doesn't comment, he criticises - Mourinho

I am not sure how much of a priority the FA Cup will be for Huddersfield, but you could say the same for their opponents, Bolton.

Bolton's form has picked up bit and Gary Madine has started scoring some goals for them but they are fighting relegation in the Championship and points will be more important for their manager Phil Parkinson.

The alarm bells must be ringing at Southampton with their poor run continuing - they have not won any of their past nine matches and I am backing Fulham to cause an upset in that tie.

The Cottagers play some nice football and their recent results have given them some momentum too.

Wolves are by far and away the best team in their division. They will be a Premier League team soon but it does not look like they will be playing Swansea next season.

I think the Championship leaders will beat them when they meet on Saturday. I just don't fancy Swansea at all.

I don't see Chelsea, Watford or Arsenal having too much trouble against Norwich, Bristol City or managerless Nottingham Forest, though.

Bristol City have beaten four Premier League teams, including Manchester United, on their way to the Carabao Cup semi-finals but they are not in great form at the moment. The Hornets need some good news, and a FA Cup run would help to provide it.

Guz Khan: Derby might be a tricky game for United but we came back into a little bit of form with our win against Everton and I am thinking Anthony Martial bangs in a couple, and Jesse Lingard bangs in a couple as well.

Premier League v Premier League

Gap Result Lawro Guz FRIDAY Liverpool v Everton 5 x-x 2-0 3-1 SATURDAY Man City v Burnley 6 x-x 3-0 5-0 MONDAY Brighton v Crystal Palace 2 x-x 1-1* 0-1

* Away team to win at home in the replay

Lawro: I think the story of the Merseyside derby will be decided by what sort of teams both managers pick.

Everton boss Sam Allardyce has been known at other clubs for not being particularly enamoured by the FA Cup, with league position always being his priority.

I cannot believe that Sadio Mane will start for Liverpool given that he is flying to Ghana on Thursday with the injured Mohamed Salah to attend the Confederation of African Football's player of the year award ceremony. Mane might be on the bench, though.

Media playback is not supported on this device Klopp 'has nothing to say about Coutinho'

So Klopp's selection will be interesting too, although we know Philippe Coutinho won't be playing either and Liverpool will not be at full strength. Even so, they should still have too much for Everton.

The Reds supporters will be hoping they take this competition seriously, because everyone loves a trip to Wembley to win the FA Cup. It is Klopp's decision though, and it is third on his list behind the Premier League and Champions League.

Again, this is a chance for Manchester City to rest players ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Bristol City on Tuesday and their trip to Anfield next weekend. But they can leave out five or six players without it really affecting them.

Burnley did not win over Christmas, although they did have some tough games including Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool. The only team who took them apart was Spurs, but it is hard to see them getting anything at the Etihad Stadium.

Media playback is not supported on this device Man City 3-1 Watford: Fixture schedule will kill the players - Guardiola

To continue the theme, I cannot see Brighton or Crystal Palace being too bothered about the FA Cup either.

After the number of games they had over the festive period, so many Premier League clubs will not be playing their best teams in the FA Cup. They just can't.

There will be a great atmosphere at a lot of these grounds - Burnley are taking more than 7,000 fans to City and Luton are doing the same at St James' Park - but there will be a lot of second-string sides selected.

The problem is not going to go away in round four, which is at the end of January, either. There is a full Premier League programme the following midweek, and Brighton and Palace both have big games in their bid to stay up - away at Southampton and West Ham respectively.

Lose this tie, and they will have free weekend before those matches. That will already be altering their thinking for this round, so I'm going to go for the result no-one wants - a replay.

Guz Khan: Liverpool are on fire right now - I don't see Everton stopping them. As for Manchester City against Burnley - I want to say 27-0 to City. No, real talk... it's got to be a five-niller, even though Burnley are having a decent season.

* Away team to win at home in the replay

Notts County are going great guns in League Two but Brentford are playing well too, and they have only lost once at Griffin Park in the Championship all season.

The Bees are a better side than their results sometimes show, and they play really nice football, so they should get through.

Cardiff are struggling at the moment but should still see off Mansfield, and the same applies for Reading against Stevenage - I think Royals boss Jaap Stam is in a bit of trouble if they don't.

Media playback is not supported on this device Watch the goal you voted best of FA Cup second round

Sheffield Wednesday are managerless and in a bit of a mess but Carlisle have lost their last two games and are not in the play-off picture in League Two, so they are not exactly in great shape either.

Leeds have had a couple of hiccups recently too, but should still beat Newport and I am fairly confident about my team Preston.

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth is a former Preston player and is doing a great job there.

We will have to watch out for Adebayo Akinfenwa but if we can tame the beast and take them to a replay, then we will be in round four.

Championship v League One

Gap Result Lawro Guz SATURDAY Aston Villa v Peterborough 27 x-x 2-0 0-1 Blackburn v Hull 6 x-x 1-1* 2-2** QPR v MK Dons 26 x-x 2-0 1-0

* Away team to win at home in the replay

** Home team to win away in the replay

Peterborough play open, attractive football and score goals, so their tie with Aston Villa should be a good watch, but I think Steve Bruce's side will be too strong.

Blackburn against Hull will be close and the Tigers might need a replay. Home advantage will help QPR beat MK Dons.

Championship v Championship

Gap Result Lawro Guz SATURDAY Birmingham v Burton Albion 1 x-x 2-0 2-0 Ipswich v Sheff Utd 5 x-x 1-1* 1-1* Middlesbrough v Sunderland 16 x-x 2-0 1-1** Millwall v Barnsley 4 x-x 1-0 1-1**

* Away team to win at home in the replay

** Home team to win away in the replay

Birmingham have beaten Leeds and Reading in the past week so I think they will get past Burton in the battle between two of the Championship's bottom three.

Middlesbrough are up and running under Tony Pulis after his first win as their manager against Preston on New Year's Day, and I think they will see off Sunderland in the Tees-Wear derby.

Sheffield United are are on a poor run but then again so are Ipswich, so I will go with the Blades to win after a replay, and I think Millwall will edge out Barnsley, although there won't be much in it.

League One v League Two

Gap Result Lawro Guz SATURDAY Yeovil v Bradford 39 x-x 1-1* 2-1

* Away team to win at home in the replay

There are no non-league sides left in the FA Cup but there will be at least two from the bottom two divisions in round four.

Yeovil are the lowest-ranked team left in the competition but I don't think they will get past Bradford, although the Bantams might need a replay.

League One v League One

Gap Result Lawro Guz SATURDAY Doncaster v Rochdale 12 x-x 1-2 1-1

Doncaster beat Rochdale in League One last week and are a good side, but I am going to end with a shock in this one.

Just two weeks after being unceremoniously dumped out of the Carabao Cup by high-flying Bristol City, Manchester United welcome Derby to Old Trafford for their first FA Cup tie of the season.

Jose Mourinho learnt a lot about his side on that dark night at Ashton Gate, and the Portuguese is expecting a similarly difficult task against Derby, who are flying high in second place in the Championship.

The United boss claimed he will 'play this match like a Premier League match' despite goalkeeper Sergio Romero being handed a rare outing between the sticks.

Marouane Fellaini and Romelu Lukaku could both return, but Antonio Valencia , Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all remain on the sidelines. Michael Carrick is back in training but is not expected to feature.

Youngster Axel Tuanzebe could yet make his first start in more than two months.

Here's how our writers think United should line up.

Ciaran Kelly

Jose Mourinho vowed to play a 'Premier League team' against Derby County, but that should not stop him from handing a number of players a rare run out.

You have to go back to October 24 for Axel Tuanzebe's last start while it is also an opportunity for Scott McTominay and, particularly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan to impress. Marouane Fellaini has not played for more than a month so should be eased back in from the bench.

Marcus Rashford has pedigree against lower league opposition in the No.9 role and Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial are in fine form following their exploits at Everton.

Rich Fay

United won't take anything for granted as Jose Mourinho looks to secure a spot in the FA Cup fourth round with a convincing performance.

Victor Lindelof and Daley Blind should both get a chance to highlight their ability at centre-back, while Luke Shaw continues his resurgence at left back.

While it would be great to see Scott McTominay get a start United will be looking to avoid a second cup upset and could name a strong midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata.

Jesse Lingard is undroppable on current form as both he and Marcus Rashford look to continue their romance with the cup.

Samuel Luckhurst

United have an internationals-style break after Derby, with Stoke due at Old Trafford 10 days later. That gap, and the greater significance the FA Cup holds with the title effectively gone, suggest Mourinho would be justified in starting a strong side.

Tuanzebe is well overdue a start, Chris Smalling could regain some sharpness and allow Phil Jones a breather while Shaw needs to sustain his momentum after it emerged United have cooled their interest in signing a left-back amid the 22-year-old's resurgence.

Matic needs a rest more than anyone and Herrera, Pogba and Lingard would still provide a worthy midfield trio. Mata is indispensable at the moment, Martial regained form at Everton and Rashford needs to as well.
